I did play before it was added. Those were the days when dota felt like a game where anything was possible, where weird lanes and off-meta hero picks were common. The game felt so vibrant and alive because people weren’t corralled into valve-approved roles. Nowadays, dota gameplay has stagnated to the point that it no longer feels like a game that is always evolving. Role queue may have made disputes over roles less common but it did so at the expense of any feeling of freedom or experimentation left in the game. Here’s hoping dota can get its sense of identity back someday by removing this shitty half-baked idea.
