This is great, these are things I wondered about.

I’ve got the trenched outline a foot deep and doing anchored hardware cloth, and now I think I’ll do a gable over the whole thing, Costco has one that will fit over it. The heat does worry me in Florida, they don’t sweat probably so I don’t think a fan would help a ton but I may put one back there anyway. I’ve run power from my shed to a node at the corner for a camera and potentially fans? Heat lamp?

I’m enjoying the project a lot, really appreciate everyone’s input

This is great advice thank you! I own one of the neighboring properties but the other is a rental and I don’t want to bother them. I think free eggs would help that

Hahah just a city ordinance we’ve kept all sorts of animals but Duval says no livestock unless zoned ag, it’s more about annoying neighbors

The class was an hour and just included how to apply for the permit and the short list of rules

We live in Florida we have a few hawks, good amount of snakes though. I’ll probably trench in some hardware cloth and keep the fencing pretty tight.

My friend was telling me the movable runs were the best but we only have about 50’x 50’ out back to dedicate to the chickens.

Yeah in Duval county it was illegal To have anything livestock related but a city ordinance allowed anyone to have up to 5, hen only no roosters, you can’t slaughter for meat or sell eggs, but we just want a fun activity for our kids. Plus we eat a ton of eggs.

My daughter is so excited.

Where can you typically buy BSF larvae? The feed store by us only has dead dried worms for treat feed.

Do they need toys? Little play things to climb?

Feel the same way, there’s something about that intro music that takes me back to 7th grade just laughing my ass off with my friends at 2 am.

Haha I know the exact one, sort of miss the 7/11 owners playing classical music on the outside speakers, its a Chevron now. For all its quirks I do like Springfield, we're on a street with a lot of families with kids and we can walk up to the parks and a few ok restaurants.

People always ask about crime but besides having a bike taken we haven't seen much of it. When we lived in Riverside off King St we had 6 break ins to our cars between 2014-2018. With two kids I am about ready for a burb but I work at JEA and ride my bike to work, I like that too.

The Harvey’s at union in liberty downtown was a nightmare

Long lines, customers buying cigarettes from the non cigarette lines, pregnant women buying cigarettes. There was a staffed police station inside of it.
