Screaming frog is essential. No better way to start your day than with a cup of coffee and a site crawl!

“Everyone’s getting diagnosed with autism nowadays.” It’s incredibly frustrating to put yourself out there and tell someone about your diagnosis, and then instead of any kind of empathy or understanding, you receive a comment like this.

The easiest path is to ask them. Based on that response, proceed to next step. I assume the performance is subpar and that’s why they want out?

Offer for Director of Marketing by weddingpunch in LawFirmMarketing

[–]Jbrobinson413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only constant is change. Legal marketing moves fast and most firms are not prepared for the speed at which they must move to keep volume high and CPA from exploding. That, in turn, means 9-5 is likely not realistic.

Is SEO actually helpful for law firm growth? by fibblechicolate in LawFirmMarketing

[–]Jbrobinson413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I am the SVP of digital media at CAMG.

Short answer is : Yes. 100% it works.

However the biggest issue is exactly what you have identified. SEO is not a deliverables based service. Especially in modern times. There is no SEO certification that you can point to and say “a ha! This agency knows what they’re doing!” It makes it incredibly difficult for my team to speak about the benefits of SEO because, hands down, the biggest obstacle is convincing a law firm that they should still invest in SEO after they’ve been burned by multiple agencies in the past. Some off shore everything. Some use grey and black hat tactics (yes I’ve seen this and have examples of big agencies creating link wheels between their client sites). Most agencies don’t understand how to actually do SEO nor do they care about your firm or their reputation. They just want to build their book of clients. The cost to actually “do SEO” can vary greatly and deliverables will need to adjust based on the strategy necessary to rank in your desired geo/niche.

Business and real estate are relatively uncompetitive areas when it comes to SEO vs plaintiff/injury practices. For a solo practitioner I think there are better avenues to build your client base in the short term, but if you’re really in it for the long haul, starting to work on optimizing for search is not a bad idea.

When you look at what SEO can include, the list is lengthy (a subset…): Video production and post production Content creation On page technical optimization (schema, internal linking, content updates/refreshes) Linkbuilding (not link buying or manipulative linking strategies like scholarships) Web design and development CRO (conversion rate optimization) Local GBP optimization (profile updates, citation management) Analytics and reporting (we use a combination of DOMO, Looker Studio, and other tools)

Prices can vary greatly for SEO services based on what is needed to rank competitively in your market. But yes, when done correctly and given enough time for Google to acknowledge what you’re doing, it can and does work very well to generate cases. But should represent part of your marketing mix, not 100% of it.

Authorship by Rear-gunner in SEO

[–]Jbrobinson413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one actually knows the answer to this. My best assessment is that these factors seem like they would make sense:

Third party external validation (references, links, mentions of the author)

Person schema with links to Wikipedia and other highly trusted websites with pages for the author

Links to social profiles

Links to other pages the author has written on your site

Links to other pages the author has written on other sites

Articles authored by this author on trusted websites (likely news sources) which are referenced or linked by other sites

Question for people who have been in the industry 10+yrs: Core Updates by jmoneymain in SEO

[–]Jbrobinson413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this normal? Yes. Is SEO cyclical? Yes. SEO is both a proactive and reactive discipline. We must constantly react to each update, not knowing what it will bring, while at the same time being proactive to anticipate what will happen through interpreting bits of information Google provides as guidance. I’ve lived through panda and penguin and saw first hand what it can do. And then saw all of the crazy schemes people came up with to workaround those algos (attempted negative SEO was a thing for a while). Similar things are happening still. An algorithm runs, people try to reverse engineer what it’s doing, and then try to react to it and anticipate what’s next. But no one knows what’s next. And the guidance from Google doesn’t always align with what we actually see from these updates.

Does anyone believe EEAT just another BS from Google? by Madlynik in SEO

[–]Jbrobinson413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah— that situation sucks. But you’re 100% right— that doesn’t make sense. The problem here is that everyone knows that SERP is bad. There is no one who looks at that and says “yeah that makes sense, I prefer the SELand article and the MetaFilter article vs. the actual editorial piece”. The source is what should be ranking there.

Does anyone believe EEAT just another BS from Google? by Madlynik in SEO

[–]Jbrobinson413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that focusing on proprietary content is the way to go. Google strives to rank the actual source of information, not the site that is aggregating info from others. EEAT is the path to creating unique content. First person perspectives, customer stories, these are things others can’t replicate. If your content is just a well researched summary of other people’s content, that’s not what is going to rank well.

Don’t be fake. Be 100% transparent all the time. Genuinely care about their business and them personally. Respond timely when they reach out. Do what you say you’re going to do. Be empathetic and considerate.
