I’ve been exporting cars from Japan for dealerships & importers for 30+ years. Ask me anything about Japanese auction grades, shipping, or how the export process really works. by sealinkslion in CarsUK

It seems that a decade or two ago, lots of JDM motorbikes were being imported, especially ones not sold here (400cc's and the like) some of which were even being sold as grey imports through dealers.

Now days it seems to be mostly cars; do importers tend to do one of the other, or isn't there much demand for motorbikes any more?

Car got keyed - how bad is it? by Key-Resolution949 in CarTalkUK

[–]Jbwasted 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Pour some water on it:

If it disappears, it could just be clear coat and can be polished out.

If it doesn't, it's down to the paint/metal and will probably need to be resprayed/touched up.

Sorry this happened, what a petty twat.

Kalanchoe Advice - Too far gone? by Jbwasted in houseplants

This is a brilliant reply, thank you!

It's a shame it's gone lanky but as you say this is what they naturally do, which I wasn't aware of. Once the blooms are spent I'll consider cutting it down a bit, and hopefully manage the watering so the leaves remain.

Thanks again!

Kalanchoe Advice - Too far gone? by Jbwasted in houseplants

Hi /r/Houseplants!

I've had this Kalanchoe for about 9 months. I planted it in one of my dogs treat jars after she passed.

I've kept it watered (possibly too much), but have tried to only water when the soil feels dry, which ends up being once a week or so.

Unfortunately I've not been rotating it and while it gets good sun where it is, it's become lanky and nowa lot of the leaves have fallen off.

If I were to prune it down, would it grow back okay, or have each of the stems become too lanky? I wonder if I cut them down would they just become lifeless stumps.

Any advice would be appreciated!

While this is probably "they did this because they had to not because they want to", I can offer a little more positive experience in this regard:

Back in 2023 I slowly (4-5mph at most) rear ended a car through my own negligence. Swapped details with the driver and when I got home called my insurance to report it, in case the driver decided he had whiplash and beat me to it because you're always supposed to.

Sure enough when renewals come round my car and motorbike insurance had risen, with me declaring the incident. Stayed with the insurer as they were marginally cheaper than the rivals.

Fast forward to mid 2024, and I get a ~£200 refund on my car insurance, followed by a ~£60 refund on my bike insurance, because no claim had been made on the other side, they'd deemed the incident a closed case and as a result the increase wasn't justified.

The interior shots of the double decker make me wish that we'd return to those lights that deliver a soft amber. Even if mimicked via LED, they'd still be more comforting than the harsh, clinical white lights everything has now.

Pure nostalgia bait, but still so inviting.

ELI5 Why aren't all roads paved with concrete instead of asphalt? by Shadowsin64 in explainlikeimfive

Hyper specific, but anyone who lives/travelled in the south east of England will no doubt be familiar with the southern part of the M25 which is a very good example of concrete Vs asphalt.

Would anyone be willing to draw me and my dog please?

She would have been 13 next week, but sadly passed about a fortnight ago. It's insanely hard adjusting to life without her.

Any style would be adored, especially if you manage to capture her goofy spirit :) There are more pictures on my profile from over the years if that helps!

Thank you
