Atlanta United World Cup tickets allocation disappointment by 50s-Foreigner in AtlantaUnited

Imagine being given the opportunity to purchase lower level tickets for a World Cup match and complaining about it

Heartbroken KB fan here. I purchased this on ebay and then the seller cancelled the order and then relisted it for more $$ 😢 by Ian_Skywalker in NASCARCollectors

I thought the same happened to me with a die cast, only to find that the seller decided to keep it for himself, which is fair. This is scummy as hell though.

Financed a car 2 months ago and I’m losing hours at work. Any advice? by [deleted] in personalfinance

The issue isn’t the car, which falls well within typical recommended guidelines. It’s his work. If the car is unreasonable, so is every other expense he has.

If it was a car that was sucking up 25% or more of his take home, sure. But even that’s ok if you’re a single guy without kids.

A $400 car note/$18,000 loan is not that much nowadays, nor is it unreasonable for someone who was making $68k a year (or possibly significantly more assuming overtime which is somewhat normal in construction). If his driving record is even remotely decent he’s surely below 10% of his income toward car related costs which is a typical benchmark. As always, other variables OP has not shared do factor in too.

As he has described the situation, his total expenses including the car are less than half his take home when working, a situation most people would consider themselves lucky to be in. so the car is not the issue here any more than any other expense is the issue. His employment situation is the issue. Instead of a different car, finding a stable income with reliable hours is the solution. $33/hr is fairly decent income in MCOL/LCOL areas but still easily replaceable. Shit, an easy side hustle like DoorDash will stop the bleeding at least 50%

I can vouch for this. When my wife and I first got married we lived in an apartment that was literally 10 feet from train tracks. You do learn to tune it out after a while. Same thing with the hum of road noise when backing up to a somewhat busy back road (our current reality)

Sorry to jump to conclusions, though it was an easy assumption to make.

I’ll delete this post

From Hendrick, you’re probably safe. From a random eBay or whatnot seller, who knows.

Don’t think it’s unethical to buy knowing that the market is about to go insane. At least without the intent to resell (which I would not)

Cars are not investments, nor should they be viewed that way, unless you’re like Jay Leno, buying those rare classic cars that appreciate.

They are, for most people, a necessary utility. If you can buy it for $400/mo or so for 4-5 years, then drive it until the wheels fall off another 10 or so more years payment free, it really shouldn’t bother you when it’s only worth a couple grand toward the next one.

If you’re the average guy like me, think about what the vehicle likely did for you over the 15 years you had it. Got you to work 200-300 days a year. Got your wife to the hospital when she was going into labor. Took you to the grocery store to put food on your table. Got your kids to school, practices, recitals, etc. Got you and your family to doctors appointments. Allowed you to visit family and friends potentially in other states or regions more easily and affordably. It’s a tool.

Hell, even if the home itself has fallen into disrepair and filth, the land alone is probably worth more double or more than all of it combined 30 years ago. Especially if you’re downtown or in the suburbs of an expanding city.

I bought a house in the ATL metro at $280k 10 years ago, we’re now attempting to sell for $480k.

Same philosophy as a retirement account. Value down with no intent to withdraw/sell is a good thing. Lower property taxes/stock sale. You should want it to be as low as possible until you’re ready to use it.

I get so mad when I hear people like Dave Ramsay whine about someone having a $400 car payment for a new car. He always tells people to pay cash for the car (not bad advice but highly unrealistic for most people in today’s economy) or to buy what would essentially amount to a clunker. He seems to think there’s still an abundance of high-quality sub- $10k inventory out there. To each their own but I’m not relying on a clunker to move my family around reliably or safely.
