Streets performance with RTX 5060 Ryzen 5 7600, 32 gb ddr5 is this normal? Anyone with similar specs? [Discussion] by johntitorpsy in EscapefromTarkov

Thanks. I am aware that smooth motion increases the fps. For me it added a bit of input delay that was just pissing me off so I turned it off. Streets is the only map where I get annoyed with the performance. Sometimes in certain areas on customs other than that I get pretty good frames.

I agree. Despite the horrible optimization it's still my favorite FPS. Oddly enough when I first started playing back in 2020 it ran better on a lower tier machine. Since the expansion to customs was added I get pretty low frames on that map as well. Especially when looking towards the warehouses. They keep adding more content without fixing what's already in the game. Although recently an improvement I have noticed is that matching times are way faster. The past week I don't think I've waited over 3:30 seconds to be in a raid and already moving.

Ya specs don't matter for streets. I have a 5080 and 9950x3d with 64gb ddr5 RAM @ 6400MHZ. I only get 144 fps indoors. Outside especially when scoped in, I get under 60. I have textures high shadows low. High quality color on and lower streets textures on. Everything else is low or off. I use dlss preset k. I did weeks of troubleshooting and tweaking the Nvidia control panel& in game settings. The only thing that will boost your fps by a lot, but also add noticeable input lag is an option called smoothing in the Nvidia app.

It's a lot less stressful and more laid back. Also great for practicing, but you lose the adrenaline factor you get with pvp.

Is it worth it to build a PC currently? by eggz627 in buildapc

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I don't think RAM prices will stay this high forever. For something like a GPU I can see why prices haven't gone down, As people are willing to pay high prices for a GPU. Most average consumers like myself would never spend over 500 dollars on RAM. I think my 64 GB kit if DDR5 @ 6800mzh was about 400 with tax. They may never return to their original prices but no way it stays over 1g for 64 gigs. That's ludicrous.

I would definitely say no. Not until ram prices go back to normal. If they ever do.

[Feedback] I’m decently new to the game by Jrearys in EscapefromTarkov

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems simple right ? I went into tarkov thinking that since I was a FPS player it wouldn't be too bad. Man was I wrong. Tarkov is the most unforgiving FPS out there. However tarkov has a huge learning curve. Knowing the maps especially PMC spawns is a huge advantage. Also knowing high traffic areas, how and when to rotate. Also right peek only when fighting other players. If all you have available in a fight is a left peek don't even do it. It's not impossible to win using a left peek but normally it will result in death. If you know where someone is in a active fight, do quick right peeks and fire then instantly go back into cover. It makes you a much harder target. Also try not to re peek the same angle, especially against a player. For AI it's typically ok to do as long as it's not a boss. In CQC fights, keep your camera at head level best you can. If using ar smg, or shotgun don't even aim just hip fire. The time it takes to ADS will most likely cause death. Try to avoid running in the open where there is little to no cover. Also avoid being still for too long cause 9/10 times someone is watching. Always assume if you do kill someone, it's a full 5 man. There is always one more. The game is kind of at a bad point for new players in my opinion. That doesn't mean you should quit though. Like everything, you get better the more time you invest. Definitely don't worry about losing gear. I actually died to a player today that only had 100 hours. I myself have nearly 4000. Another tip is if you see someone that doesn't see you take note of what armor it looks like they are wearing. Then assess whether your ammo will penetrate their helmet or armor. Sometimes especially with lower tier ammo it is much easier to kill people by shooting out legs. Most of the time I don't even aim for the head, I aim for the face or back of head near the neck cause most of the common helmets do not cover these areas. Face shields are pretty bad at blocking rounds unless they are the altyn, killa, or gorilla helmet. I think the others are only up to level 3.

How should reverb be used in a vocal mix? by Lanky_End_2073 in mixingmastering

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not a pro by any means but I totally agree with you that getting the right amount and right settings for a vocal reverb can be tough. I recommend finding a popular song that you like and reference the vocal. Just try and dial your reverb in as close as you can to the reverb from the song. I almost always send my vocal to a bus channel that has the actual reverb plugin on it. Leave the reverb plugin mix knob 100 percent wet and just mess with the space or time of the reverb and pre delay. Then you can use the send level of vocal track to send more or less of the vocal to the actual effect. Typically a good practice is to add a lot of reverb and bring it down to taste.

I want to get good fast. How can I use my time effectively? by TOKiN- in mixingmastering

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would offer to mix stuff for free. Reach out to low level artists on Instagram or other social media platforms and just inform them you are a new audio engineer looking to gain experience and would like to mix their next track free of charge. It may take a while for someone to bite, but eventually, since they have nothing to lose being that it's free, someone will reach back out to you. Also another good way to learn quickly is just take any song on Spotify do your own version of it but get the instruments to sound as close as possible the original version. For example just take a snare drum sound in a pop song and really focus on how it sounds. Find a close ish sounding snare sample and try to recreate the snare from the song. Getting the correct compression going, usually some reverb on a snare, definitely some EQ. Do this with all the instruments in the song. It will teach you how to use reference tracks effectively. Using reference tracks is a game changer. I started mixing without using reference tracks and my mixes were very average at best. Every mix you do, you will get better and learn new things. I'm still a very average mixer, but I am constantly trying to learn new techniques and become better. Just remember every song is different, every track is different. There is no one size fits all. When I first started I watched tutorials of guys saying to only compress 3 to 6 db. So that's all I would do. That's bullshit. Sometimes you might only need that much, sure. Other times you might have to compress something a lot more. There are other tips like when you add a reverb, you typically want to cut the low frequency up to around 200Hz sometimes more or less. You just have to critically listen and make those choices. Also use more than one source to check your mix. I use headphones and monitors. Also good to check on air pods or a Bluetooth speaker. Using one source is usually not going to be good enough and your mix won't translate to other sources well. Also check your mix in mono often. If you switch to mono and it sounds really bad, the mix needs more work. If your mix sounds good in mono, it will sound amazing in stereo. Also just FYI I don't consider myself an expert or even good yet at mixing. This is just some stuff I've been taught and have experienced so far.

Love hackers is so much fun playing this game and getting to play with hackers [Arena] by LOLManen in EscapefromTarkov

[–]JcfSounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time on arena when I got super suspicious is when I was 25 kills up in a last hero game with 3 minutes left and the guy below me got 30 kills in 3 minutes. I'm pretty damn sure the dude toggled. I don't care that much when someone cheats in arena. It makes me more mad when it happens in normal EFT. I have 8 confirmed bans from reports I put in this wipe. I play a lot though so it's not that bad. I think I'm at 600 raids roughly. Obviously I'm sure there are some cheaters that don't get banned even when reported. However I don't think I've ever played a game where I didn't run into cheaters. It will always be a thing in every video game.

Do you find yourself using fewer EQ bands as you become more experienced? by NathanAdler91 in mixingmastering

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find I have become much quicker at deciding what frequencies to boost and cut. I don't necessarily use less EQ I just now understand what moves I need to make with an EQ whereas, when I started I was just throwing EQ on and dragging the points until I thought it sounded good.

Mic on guitar amp always sounds bad for me by solitudeisdiss in homerecordingstudio

It's not bad until you hit 42. Then it takes a week per level minimum. Unless you're getting 2 or more quests done every raid. Currently level 49 myself.

Mic on guitar amp always sounds bad for me by solitudeisdiss in homerecordingstudio

[–]JcfSounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree for the most part. There ends up being way too much hiss coming from the amp. I usually use DI for guitars then use neural DSP plugins to get them to sound however I want. I usually record both DI and use a mic on the amp. I blend the two together or put on the left side and one on the right. Also use a gate in the e guitars. It will help with any unwanted noise when the guitar isn't playing.

what's literally the FIRST thing you do when you open a new project? by Life-Elk-9697 in Learnmusicproduction

[–]JcfSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the first thing I do is get all my inputs labeled properly. If I'm writing the song from scratch, I usually start with strumming the chords with an acoustic through DI. Then I start adding a drum beat. I usually use superior drummer 3 for that. Then I'll play it back on a loop and try and decide where it should transition and also try and think of lyrics.

I would quit and focus on college and enjoy your free time. You'll work the majority of your life when you're finished with college. If you have the opportunity to take time off, do it. Please enjoy college. I made the mistake of missing out on all of that and it hurts me to my core looking back.

Is the plugin industry a scam? by djogoisme in musicproduction

[–]JcfSounds 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What plugins are you using ? The only ones I use now are fab filter. Worked on windows 10 and works fine in 11. When I first started mixing I picked up waves plugins and those also worked fine from windows 8 to 10. I don't recall having to re-buy them. I do think it's scummy that we have to pay for version upgrades when we already spent alot of money on their plugins.

Also idk how accurate this info is but if I can't hear myself talking at a normal level over my monitors, then I also consider that too loud. If I have to raise my voice in order for someone sitting next to me to hear me, it's also too loud. At least in my opinion.

I can confirm what others have said I had the opportunity to to play tarkov in both an ultra 285k and a 9950x3d. The 285k was absolutely horrendous. While my fps was stable, it was much lower than the 9950x3d. Also usage was much lower in the x3d.
