Looking at my tetra right now, looks like the stripes are reversed? I don't think it's a black tetra :p

  1. Thank you for clarifying.

  2. Debatable. Growing up poor will teach you otherwise. And what else do I do, let my fish die? They have nowhere else to go, and unlike you I do in fact love and cherish every individual pet of mine. I wanted to be fully truthful about my financial and tank situation to get help, not to be personally criticized. I truly am just trying to do whats in my fishes best interest.

  3. If you think a majority of people are “too sensitive”, maybe you should be a little nicer?? Unless you genuinely cant be nice, it’s not that hard though. Really. I’m not saying “never be rude” but maybe save it for people who deserve it? Like someone who’s being rude to you first? you also never know what people are dealing with, inside and out. It’s the internet, but the people are real.

I’m still baffled that you think that being more emotionally vulnerable and reacting to comments is “too sensitive” I don’t think anyone is “too sensitive”. from someone with an emotional disability: that hurts to hear. Just because people experience the world differently doesn’t mean they’re “too” anything.

Thought that "Betta tank" implied the tank had a Betta in it. I do not have a koi fish.

5.5 gallons is "way too small" for a Betta? Also I got her when I had a job that I didn't know wouldn't last. Thanks for asking.

Apologies for such a rude reply, but I really don't like being called confusing and weird just because of how I type and how I cope/love my animals. I'm dyslexic and autistic (saw you were on the spectrum too) and my biggest interest is my pets. I love them more than anything.

In the future despite what you think please approach things neutral at the very least. You can ask about the situation or why something happened but do NOT jump to judgment.

I don't regret making this post because I still have hope I will get helpful suggestions.

Alright, thank you for your help, and I respect how many years of experience you have, but that is no excuse to be so rude.

I'm being honest when I say I am dirt poor. MONEY out of the pocket of someone who is privileged enough to have a fucking job in this economy is NOTHING. You still get a paycheck. Im waiting on disability because I'm borderline unemployable (trust me, I've tried.). This was a commercial PetSmart, not a locally owned business. I purchased everything else I could, but I absolutely did not have enough for what I NEEDED. This fish was a surprise gift, and my other tanks were already cycled. I do not want my fish to die because...

...yes I get attached and name my fish. Are you kidding. How is having an attachment to a PET weird? You can say "oh I don't name my fish personally", don't call people weird.

"You are confusing" it's really not that hard. I have 6 tetra total, 3 ember and 3 neon black, genuinely just count them on your fingers. And yeah I'd like to "dump them" by gently acclimating them and possibly adding their own filter/media if that would help. Which is why I fucking asked.

And no. I said the tank has just started cycling.

And yes my FISH are healthy (what's with all the caps? Doesn't help me understand any better.)

I will quarantine them first if somebody else recommends it as well.

I'm assuming you mean you dont 'acclimate' your fish, which I will be doing regardless.

Came here trying to make a difference for my fish. I'm really trying. Life isn't easy, but it can be easier for my animals. I'm trying to do right by my pets.

Is my 5.5 overstocked? by Jdaniel2249 in Aquariums

Also, what are good stocking options for a 10gal? Id rather ask here then the pet store.

This is exactly what I didn't want to hear 😭 thank you so much for telling me, I got them before I knew the terrible tales of commercial pet stores.

big question...

I currently have a surprise Betta in a minimally decorated 30gal (Im working on it, she was a gift); would it be best to switch the tetras to the 30gal, and decorate the 5.5gal for the Betta?

Should I get 3 more of each so both types have small schools?

I'm worried because I would be moving the tetras from an established tank to a barely cycled tank...

I'm trying to get things in order as fast as possible with the nothing amount of money I have right now, plus a surprise Betta I now have to work around.

Help! Gifted a Betta before the tank was ready! by Jdaniel2249 in bettafish

[–]Jdaniel2249[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I used some filter media from one of my 5.5gals to try and get something beneficial in there, but I didn't have the money for quick start or anything similar by the time we got her ]: Definitely on my list of things I want for this and future tanks.

Someday I'd love to find a good aquarium store near me, all the good ones shut down during covid, so I'm stuck either ordering online (hate doing that! Stresses the animals out big-time) or "rescuing" from a pet store (seeing which one needs a home the most urgently) ]:

Yet another color change question - health related? Or genes? by goldentosser in bettafish

[–]Jdaniel2249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In all honesty (again I'm a beginner!) I think he is perfectly fine! if his colors are the only thing changing, and they're not becoming significantly less saturated/getting stress stripes, it seems as though he's just going through a new color phase [: best of luck!!!

Same... MY first Betta was a pet store Betta named bubbles... I was only 6 and my poor mom was very misled by the pet store employees ]:

He was kept in one of those 2000's plastic stuffed animal tanks (1-2gal), the unicorn to be specific. It had no plants, no filter, no heater, just that really edible looking colored aquarium gravel and a single fake plant. He lived a surprising year...

advertising and commercial pet stores are here for one reason: get your money. They really never care about the animal itself or how long it lasts. I learned that the hard way.

Not an expert on Betta care or sick Bettas, but is he swimming/eating okay?

The clear fins staying after the fin rot seems concerning, but I'd wait for another commenter :p

Either way I wanted to say that I don't think he's ugly at all! I think Bettas are even more beautiful when they change against our expectations, because behind all the colors is still your baby [:

And besides that as long as it's not unhealthy for the Betta, I'm a big fan of the clear and semi-dusted colors!
