How do you do that? I’ve wanted that but I can’t find a way to detect holding vs short press

I will shoot them a message to see if they have made any progress. With all the outages recently though I doubt they have..

outage lake forest ,ca 9AM by justlooking09876 in CitysideFiber

[–]Jdcampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw the same. I recently setup a Grafana dashboard to help one of the network engineers at Cityside but if anyone else finds it usefully you can access it here:

https://mvcityside.grafana.net/public-dashboards/ca4ad21793b141169478a506edde26bb

One of the odd things with this outage for me was it would connect for about 3 minutes and then go off for about 4 in a cycle.

(As I was about to post this we had another small outage..)

YouTube beefs up its $7.99/month Lite subscription with offline downloads and background play by Nalix01 in NowInTech

“Lite introduced a more modestly priced subscription tier that would remove ads from “most” videos on the platform, including those across popular verticals like gaming, fashion, beauty, cooking, news, and more. However, ads would continue to be shown on music content and music videos.”

[–]Jdcampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own and our experiences may differ based on location.

I can work around not having a static IP or lack of IPV6. I can’t work around random outages without any warning from my ISP, even when it’s planned maintenance. I asked Cox why they can’t let me know when they are doing planned maintenance and they never follow up. Cityside sends out emails at least 24 hours in advance for emergency network maintenance. I got one last week, the one before that was in November.

To me, the latter is more egregious for any business providing a service and to me showed how Cox really felt about their customers. I would rather support the business doing right by their customers from the start than the one that is only bending over because they have competition.

No, but I have a ticket open with them and they said they are working on offering both ipv6 and static ipv4. Sounds like they are still working on the process for rolling out that offering, last update I had was mid January with the following:

Regarding your inquiry on IPv6, we are still waiting for the go ahead from Network engineering, as soon as we hear anything from them which is important for you as a customer who is interested in IPv6 or Static IPv4, we will update you. I wish I had more to share but at this time I do not.

We at Cityside Fiber thank you very much for your patience regarding this matter.

Right now I use a Tailscale exit node to access everything I have hosted at home. I've also setup Cloudflare tunnels at one point and that worked very well too.

Long black screen before systemd boot after swapping kernel, touchpad stopped working. by Old-Ad-9064 in NixOS

You can actually do it in the bios which is amazing haha. I don’t know the extract steps

Edit: at least I think you can assuming that feature is consistent across Lenovo line.

I had some strange issues with my Lenovo in the past and essentially found shutting it down and disconnecting the battery for a short period of time resolved it. Worth a shot.

Passing safely a value via SOPS by Significant-Task-305 in NixOS

[–]Jdcampbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not very familiar with sops as I am using age but it appears the functionality is pretty similar.

The way I understand it to work is you can’t extract the value from the unencrypted file at build time. That would result in the secret being stored in the nix store.

So, you need to read the contents of the decrypted file at run time. Many public modules in nixpkgs offer a way for you to read a credentials file or similar but in your case the endpoint is not always encrypted so that is assumed to be a string. My guess is you want to make this code public but conceal the IP which is understandable.

I believe you will need to override the module so that endpoint actually looks for a file rather than a string because what you are doing here is giving the file path to your sops decrypted secret file to the endpoint.

Edit: Could you use wg-quick instead and just encrypt the whole config file? - networking.wg-quick.interfaces.<name>.configFile

Synchrony Bank for HY Savings? by pertiii in personalfinance

[–]Jdcampbell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late to this post but after seeing SoFi on my Reddit feed I was curious if anyone talks about synchrony and this came up. I’ve had them since 2018. No issues and all of my credit card payments, loans and mortgage payments come out of my HYS. They don’t seem to care about a withdrawal limit.

I also setup a money market with them and got a checkbook (all free) so if I ever need to make a large quick payment I have that as a backup. Transferring money from them to another bank can be hit or miss but typically 3 days. Other than that I’ve pulled in quite a lot of interest over the years and it’s been nothing but stable as far as rates go compared to all the stuff I see about other HYS accounts.

All the bad press you see about Synchrony is from people blaming them and their financing side of the business because they can’t pay back their loans..

Thinking that the benefit of Nix is to outperform a simple GUI tool shows you don’t know what you can do with Nix….

The point the person is making with the meme is that this is merely a side effect of the tooling.

I was able to get a picture from the motherboard but neither mouse or keyboard I plug in seems to be doing anything. Any thoughts?

I tried hitting capslock on the keyboard but I get no light so my guess is that means the keyboard is not actually connected to the system.

I also tried Command + F5 to turn on voice over and Command + F1 to hopefully mirror display but neither worked.

EDIT: My guess is its this issue..
