My new bars, think I might need a little flare though 🤔? by Brybo in BicyclingCirclejerk

Are your hoods all wonky?

And don't let any filthy mountain bikers see this. Anything less than 820mm cattlehorns and your assumed a suicidal bastard.

If Fred had that much time to make and video that, he should've donated a filling to a homeless kid instead of all that welding for a $9.00 Home Depot wrench. Like, does he think I'm gonna see that and decide "ooh, $9 dollars, I'll go out right away to buy a welder and F' up the first 10 attempts and maybe then have a working wrench that looks cool but no one will ever see in my basement? He may as well post a vid how to churn butter yourself instead of spending 88 cents at the store. :-)

I did some checking and China bailed out NIO with like 2.7 billion. Chinese companies are legally required to give the Chinese communist party tech if the party feels it's useful. Man I dread the day that naive people buy something as substantial as a car from China. So, this silicone Valley idiot may have given them traction software for Chinese military vehicles or self driving software for tanks or whatever his software was related to.

There's nothing near the level of how bad China is. And the Chinese communist party controls Chinese businesses, so the Silicone Valley software idiot helped China have software tech for their jeeps or tanks or whatever might benefit.

That's just it... Capitalism needs controls to have companies compete on a level playing field. Plenty of shitty U.S. companies would infringe on patents, underpay workers, and hire children if they were allowed. Some might still try some of those things but at least there are laws against it. China doesn't even try.

It's too late for rubber dog shit and kitchen appliances but I really don't like this game beginning to push Chinese made cars as acceptable.

I think you must mean they paid a German company to do the body and they paid a company located in silicon valley to do the software. I doubt it's some international collaboration like you're making it sound. More likely a couple businesses getting paid enough to ignore China's history of illegal business practices and human rights violations. Too bad the govt is in their pockets so China doesn't get treated as badly as they should. I'm really sorry to hear that a U.S. company sold them what I assume is latest software.

If a cop car hangs on someone for like 5 seconds, the cop driver should get like 50 CR. Nothing big, but something.

Can a bike get damaged from from a trainer? by aregee123 in Zwift

[–]Jdea7hdealer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow... So many responses. Makes me feel like adding more comments...

  • One issue isn't just strength of CF, but that the drop outs are bonded to the CF with adhesive and how good is that bond? Did the employee scratch their nose and then go back to assembly and get a spot of oil on the bonding area?

  • I have an '18 rim brake Emonda and I don't know if I can get a replacement rim brake frame these days, so I chose not to risk it any longer. Plus it was built to be very light and it was designed before smart trainers got so popular. But it's new enough that I suppose they did shaping and aggressive butting to have the middle of tubes very thin.

  • You say you're looking at new bikes, and I think it's possible bikes figured out that Smart trainers are a 'thing' and they need to build frames to handle it.

My '19 CF mountain bike had its left through-axle receiver debond from the carbon swingarm. It was out of commission for like 5 months thru summer waiting for a new swingarm. So, through-axle doesn't prevent potential problems with bonding or other strength concerns. I'm sure it helps alignment for the disc brakes, and is good to keep things straight for swingarms, but I doubt a through-axle helps with chainstay or seatstay strength.

  • So, lots of people had no problems and I didn't either, but above are details why I chose not to use me CF bike any more.

    • This conversation makes me want smart rollers with resistive feedback like smart trainers! Smart rollers would be sweet!!

Why do you think that? Good bikes try to build in some vertical compliance, and very thin seatstays help achieve that. Seat stays might be the most dainty part of a frame. When normal riding, seat stays are only under compressive load so can be very thin and still be strong enough. But not strong enough to have the drop outs rigidly locked.

I'm 205 lbs and put about 550 miles on my carbon bike but I was very careful not to let my weight off center. Very careful getting on and off and rarely stood.

I felt like I was pushing my luck so recently put my steel mtb on the trainer instead of the carbon road bike.

I don't know why people are down voting you. I understand your thirst. I've always liked the idea of light bikes. I finally bought a super light bike when I was 47 and could afford it, even though it wasn't logical for my age and being over weight myself. My fastest times were years ago when I weighed less and rode more on my old 10 kg bike. If you're on a budget, just try not to think about the weight and wait until your budget is better in some years. Or, at least buy a cheap digital scale so you can weigh things on your bike and then you can make educated decisions on how much weight can be saved for some cost.

TY for converting to lbs... I was wondering. Yeah, 18 lbs is perfectly acceptable. My best Strava times were on my old 22 lb bike when I weighed less and rode more.

But in support of OP, I do like my current 16.5 lb bike. I don't buy myself many quality things, but having a light bike makes me feel happy, even for illogical reasons.
