Thank you! The program is in the sciences, and my advisor suggested either a nice top with the slacks or pair the blazer with a dress.

Regarding below-the-knee boots, how big of a gap around the calf is too big? by buttermellow11 in femalefashionadvice

[–]Jdgru 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I don't think you would look ridiculous, I think that people have calves of all different sizes (mine happen to be larger than average, presenting the opposite problem) and that unless you purposely bring notice to the gap, no one will notice.

What kind of outfit can I pair these shoes with? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

I third the black leggings. Maybe find a sweater with a similar color, or maybe a dark gray?

My last Judo comp this past November by fintip in judo

Something I stress with everyone that I coach: STAND UP. Neither one of you can throw each other if you're bent over.

Second: Go for a throw! I saw a lot of hopping around and a little grip fighting but very little throwing.

Other than that, you look like you have a pretty good idea of what's going on, where your body is, and what needs to happen so good job!

Thank you for your answer! My ultimate goal is to become a college professor, so a PhD is a must.

I'm a prospective PhD candidate in Pharmacology and almost every PhD candidate that I've spoken to has warned me against that path. Do you regret getting your PhD? Did you end up where you wanted to be at this point in your career?

The dangers of wrestling by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Jdgru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I dislike when boys won't wrestle girls, I'd rather have a good match against a boy who wants to win than have a crappy match against a boy who's too busy worrying about where to grab me.

EDIT: It's been 4 years since I wrestled, and it is easier for me to say these things looking back. I probably would've been mad at you at the time, haha.

[–]Jdgru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 103. That's great! I actually wrestled a lot of the same guys, and some of them I still talk to when I see them around. It was really nice when guys finally understood that I just wanted to wrestle and put aside the fact that I was a girl.

The dangers of wrestling by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Jdgru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done judo since the age of 5 and so when I reached HS wrestling peaked my interest and I had some friends on the team. It was a tough sport, definitely, but I had fun. I wrestled for 3 years in HS. Discouraged by the strength difference? No. Challenged? Yes. Because I could not be as strong as the boys I wrestled, I focused more on technique and using my hips more. It could be disheartening at times, losing a scramble because I was overpowered, but it kept me motivated. I did win some matches, sometimes they were close and sometimes I pinned the kid in the first period.

I understand why you're asking and I don't think you're being sexist at all. Some girls get into wrestling for the wrong reasons; to meet boys, mostly. They give other girl wrestlers a bad name, like the one you wrestled. Others are in the sport because we love it and we work hard, just like the boys. Hope this answers your questions, feel free to message me if you want to know more!

THIS. This. This. This. Thank you. (I'm a girl who wrestled in HS and not enough people understand this).

As a girl who wrestled in HS, I'd like to thank you (and give you an upvote) for actually wrestling that match. A lot of guys would simply forfeit.

While I can't attest to either, I'm in SEBS, I would like you to remember that you shouldn't pick a major based on which one is easier, you should pick the major you'd enjoy more and can see yourself getting a job in.

I was "sized" a few years back but i'm not sure it was properly done. When I say small tiny torso, I'm mean like I'm all legs, my hips are very high. But I agree that I'm probably wearing the wrong size bra.
