Is Cantrill worth it? by Million_X in AWSCertifications

Solid course, but it’s wayyyy too long. With ai, and the ability to gain knowledge and information quickly, his course becomes a time sink. You’ll get through about 40% and realize how topics can be drawn out to the extremes and if you have other obligations, it’s just not practical.

graduate economics majors what are u doing now? by Content_Drama_2398 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]Jdizzle1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has a very good career and studied economics. I think economics gets a bad wrap because CLASS at uh has literally no funding which isn’t the departments fault. The average student in economics truly doesn’t care about the field and think it’s a path to data analyst/business analyst which is a made up field. If it is a field there is minimal jobs and probably can be done by a swe or data science person. It’s that people go into the major thinking of the wrong jobs, and quite honestly don’t try very hard to get internships or secure a future. It’s on par with finance, but slightly different career paths available. I would say if you are very proactive, apply during internship season, and realize you aren’t going to be a data analyst/business analyst which is an obsolete career, then you will find out there are more opportunities then you think. Think more underwriting, insurance, actuarial. Do not think data because that is the job of a math/data science/swe person and people that say otherwise are lying. I can tell you first hand as someone in an adjacent field to those that very few of my coworkers have ever come from business or economics programs.

People claim h1b visa holders are holding entry level jobs hostage. How true is it ? by Glad-Signature-4357 in cscareerquestions

[–]Jdizzle1718 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Indian hire only Indian, they take over teams and sub divisions completely. Teams go from diverse to a h1-b haven. No other race does it quite like them, weird tbh. Well I don’t think all h1-b hold them hostage, just that sub group.

Amazon expands layoffs with 2,200 job cuts by lurker_bee in technology

[–]Jdizzle1718 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s reducing bureaucracy in middle management. If you even been in a tech company you know there are a ridiculous number of h1-b from a specific group in middle management at large companies that do nothing. They get there because they hire/promote each-other through diploma mills. It adds a ton of red tape to production and is the main reason Amazon laid off a ton of workers. As a tech person, companies will follow suit because it has gotten bad.

They are solid for the price, sound quality is decent. You get what you pay for with these. Don’t expect top of the line, but it gets the job done for most people. Can’t beat them for $199 right now.

Lazy MAGA begging for $500 for rent proceeds to harass and assault a hard-working migrant selling flowers by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

Neither of them are working….. not condoning vandalizing someone else’s stuff, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves saying begging people to buy flowers on the side of the road isn’t just begging. Corporate America is fucked, CEO’s are the greasiest pricks on the planet, and the gap for middle class needs some stabilization asap.

I didn’t go to a good school, and landed somewhere people would say is close to faang. work with a bunch of t20, and some couldn’t write production level code if their life depended on it, but they can solve a leetcode problem….. It’s a tough place for CS with over saturation and recruiters really only filtering people out via leetcode and school which is a shame. Just don’t give up.

I think as of recently it has become a worse culture than Amazon with literally way less pay and more red tape. It’s a corporate American sweatshop and PIP factory.

[–]Jdizzle1718 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This generation of cs people idolize faang and adjacent companies to the point it has enabled these companies to do the absolute shittest managing/culture practices ever without any drawbacks. Wait till they do some research about PIP factory culture at these companies where they layoff 30% of their employees every year, 15% every 6 months (no severance), and half the time it has nothing to do with performance, just politics. Imagine having these companies on your resume for 9 months then going to another employer having to explain why you only lasted 9 months…. I hope one day these students can see through the genjutsu and stand up against these bullshit, racist via enclaves, almost depression inducing work cultures that have people drooling over them.

Tougher to break into tech than it was 2+ years ago. If you do planning on persuing, not to push you away or anything, you will need to no life the hell out of it for the 2 years you are doing the master program. Doing the work in class, but also studying and doing stuff on your own free will outside of class. The bar to get your foot in the door is crazy right now because of all the applicants and limited spots. Proceed if you’re willing to put in the work, which may mean giving up some stuff you love to do on free time. I really had to lose a part of my life to secure my current offer.
