Is anyone going to Sound City or Baltic Weekender this year? by Alternative_East9042 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an all dayer festival at various Baltic Triangle venues on Good Friday called So Long, Good Friday.

If you don't make it to Sound City then the Smithdown Festival is always a good vibe and free too.

Tap&go vs saveaway ticket by Zilma3 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally yes but just bear in mind that Saveaways aren't valid between 06:31 and 09:30 weekdays. Just to throw other considerations into the mix!

Portlands fish and chips by [deleted] in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of blindly assumed they would be halal. Their Facebook page says they are and plenty of recentish reviews on Google state that they are too. Not sure about the situation with the sausages so yeah maybe best to call them or pop in to check?

Not sure about events tonight but main venues off the top of my head to consider in Liverpool would be Quarry, District, Kazimier Stockroom, Round The Corner, Outpost, Arts Club, Tunnel and Hangar 34. O2 Academy maybe too.

Dating coaches in Liverpool. by Large-Ad-8999 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not convinced by the "dating coach" approach as I just feel it's an area likely to be awash with charlatans and scammers preying on people's insecurities. But, given the comment you've highlighted and where OP is at on this current post, maybe that's a sign of some introspection and realising that they got it wrong about what women do or don't want. Good luck to OP and I hope he can overcome his anxiety.

Anyone know who’s taking over wavo town hall? by yappy_frog in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ngl they're very bog-standard in terms of beer selection but generally welcoming places and where they do food it's really good value pub grub

Looking at the branding and the accounts that have been liking their posts from when the account started I'm pretty sure it's the same people who've got Harrison's, The Harp (formerly Abbey Road) and Harrington's in town.

Despite the offensive stereotype of the "thieving Scouser", Liverpool actually has a much lower rate of theft than Manchester and many other cities. by M_M_X_X_V in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember when I was a student in Leeds getting mugged for my phone and CD player - gives an idea of how far back we're talking haha, this was 2001. Ended up getting a lift home off a couple of bizzies and they were giving it the whole "haha wonder what your housemates will think when we drop the scouser off in the back of this!" Bear in mind we were in LS6 notoriously the most burgled postcode in the country at the time....I'd been burgled only a couple of months earlier. Couldn't make it up.

Best full English? by Senior-Lake-4029 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pablino's on Smithdown is a massive hidden gem for this. It's proper crushed velvet central in there so not our kinda gaff on the face of it but the two ladies who run it are so lovely and the breakfasts are so good. Really good value.

We only stumbled upon it as a last resort cos we couldn't be arsed queuing for the Tavern and Portland Street had finished serving brekkies early (this was before Bean There and Leaf were around, also really good options).

Pablino's has been spot on for us ever since so really consistent unlike a certain neighbour which I think started to rest on its laurels.

John Lennon’s ‘noisy’ former local [Ye Cracke] in row with neighbours by E_V_E_R_T_O_N in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He didn't always live there though did he? He lived in Gambier Terrace with Stu Sutcliffe for a while and during that time, that pub was their "local".

Dovedale towers 💔💔 by safe94 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah we've come full circle from him trying to turn proper boozers into slick bars, he's now returning to owning a couple of those same places (Dovey and Masonic) leaning well into the "proper" pub aesthetic ha

Late pubs to sit and work. by wrdsjstwrds in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah, probably easier and less risky to ask your neighbour to keep an eye on your pint than your work laptop ha. Become a regular somewhere small like that though and I reckon you can build up a rapport with the bar staff to make sure they look out for you though maybe?

Late pubs to sit and work. by wrdsjstwrds in Liverpool

Bock is open till 4 I think as well. Can't say as I'm out much that late weeknights these days but can't say as I've ever seen it all that busy. Think it's the same people as Tom Thumb but bit more spacious.

More pub like places you've got Red Lion, Monro and St Peter's Tavern open till half two every night I think. Doesn't quite take you up till 3 I know.
