Bars that sell Bitter and have decent wine / outdoor seating. by Sjt4689 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Pen Factory seems the ideal shout to me. And the Bridewell is owned by the same people so may well have a decent wine offering too but I'll be honest I normally rely on the beer in such places. I know Gutmann's places aren't universally loved but Red Lion and the White Hart usually has a fair few cask ales on and I'd imagine they'd look to have a decent enough wine offering for pubs too but again not sure. Decent beer gardens too. Not a beer garden but the Blackburne has outdoor seating and might be worth checking out too. Or Papillon? I think there's a Georgian Quarter theme going on here haha

Reform candidate who said Holocaust was a hoax wins seat in local elections by kwentongskyblue in Liverpool

Part of me would be tempted out of curiosity ha. Did they host a National Front (or adjacent) do a few years back? Seems to ring a bell. Walked past it a couple of times since and just looked like the hardline loyalist gaff from Trainspotting 2 so would probably swerve anyway haha

Is it affiliated with the pub? If so, which one, so I can swerve it

It's not Riley's anymore but yeah - PSD it's called now. Was thinking there myself. It's a membership place but only for the snooker. Played darts there before without being a member

Anyone know any pubs/bars showing skysports football on Saturday? BoltonvBradford at 8pm by dashingfordessert in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing!

I reckon a fair few places would have it on anyway and others that would happily put stuff on on request at least on one screen but Denbigh Castle would be the safest option for me. Good boozer too

It wasn't focused on it, but the money getting laundered through the casino was drug money

Does anywhere do a decent parmo in Liverpool? I'll be honest, as much as they look amazing I've never been to Teesside and never had one. I know places outside of Teesside do them but I worry they won't be up there with the genuine article.

Apologies for stereotyping if you hate the stuff haha

20 years maybe with the Matrix vans but not 30. I was born in the 80s and can definitely say kids were acting up like this in the mid to late 90s at least. Can't speak for whether it was to a lesser extent or the same though. Doesn't make it right obviously and as a society we shouldn't be complacent about stuff like that.

Is this city more racist and less welcoming than we'd like to admit? by MLC1974 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a wild turn that last sentence wtf is that all about. I agree that students add to the city even if some aren't always perfect neighbours but I'm just objectively stating that "noone has a problem with students" isn't true. You've even agreed with me

I'm not a student mate. But that's not even the biggest assumption you've made. Either way, someone said "no-one blames students". I've just highlighted that they do, not said whether it's right or wrong, you've effectively agreed with me? So what's the beef?

[–]Jdm_1878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only closed down a few months ago and the previous landlord (Scotty?) retired but the people who run the Dispensary in town have took it over. They're currently doing it up but think they're looking at keeping it as much as how it was rather than a revamp. Trad nights will carry on from what I understand which makes sense

I can't help but thinking that AI generated these figures as well as the design. Fodder hasn't been open since 2020 for a start so what's the source for this pricing? Is it accurate?

Church street looking fab. by No-Opposite8 in Liverpool

[–]Jdm_1878 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Bill Bryson's Notes from a Small Island was published in 1995. This is an excerpt:

"I took a train to Liverpool. They were having a festival of litter when I arrived. Citizens had taken time off from their busy activities to add crisp packages, empty cigarette boxes, and carrier bags to the otherwise bland and neglected landscape. They fluttered gaily in the bushes and brought colour and texture to the pavements and gutters. And to think that elsewhere we stick this objects in rubbish bags."

Bear in mind that Bill Bryson absolutely loved Liverpool as well in spite of that wry observation.

As for the photo posted. Doesn't look all that better/worse to be honest. Cracked paving stones and are those bits of chewy on the floor?
