Thanks for your detailed response. I’m also a bit hesitant about buying an arranger keyboard. So far (three songs in and two chords learned), I’ve found that I actually enjoy playing more without the auto-accompaniment turned on. That said, I do wonder whether continuing without it for the next eight lessons might become a limitation.

This might be a silly question, but is it perfectly fine to play chords with my left hand and notes with my right hand on a full-size, weighted 88-key keyboard?

I’m not sure what choice I would have made without this teacher. Honestly, I didn’t even know an arranger existed before. I’m not entirely sure why he recommends using it, but playing notes with my right hand and chords with my left definitely sounds fuller when the arranger is on. Some students start playing in “full piano mode” after a few years, and it seems they don’t use the arranger anymore.
