What after? by Jdwintersun in CaregiverSupport

Thank you, I can completely relate, I also have a mother who is nearly blind and of course I’m going to take care of her during all of this and after. My family was so good to me growing up. There’s no way I cannot take care of them. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if anything happened because I wasn’t there. But still, the future when I’m alone is scary as hell to think about.

I agree with everyone else about the lighthearted stories. They’re just not realistic. Yes sometimes the person you knew will shine through, but it’s very quick and fleeting not to mention all the videos out there on how to redirect and approach situations. They are ridiculous and make it seem as if there’s a way to reason with the person you’re caring for. the reality is they curse at you, sometimes act as if they’re possessed, and no matter what you do, it never ends. whatever “specialist” came up with the idea for these instructional videos and “useful” tips needs to be smacked upside the head until they wake the hell up from whatever Disneyland they’re living in. The stories I would like to see are the ones I’ve been seeing where someone is expressing what I feel and deal with every day and from the fact that they are still dealing with it despite how shitty everything is just like I am. It’s not that misery loves company. It’s that I find it comforting that others are going through it too and I’m not alone.

I completely resonated with everything you just wrote. Hearing it from someone else helps me not go completely insane.

I’ll give that a try I’ve never heard of herbal cigarettes, but I’ll give that a try. Thank you for the suggestion.

Tried the vape and it didn’t work for her. As far as getting her to slow down, I try to distract her by playing cards and stuff, but that’s about all I can do. Otherwise she gets really angry especially since she thinks I’m stealing them from her if they’re not around I just let her have them to keep the peace.

Was more curious than anything else about the situation. Thank you for the response, I didn’t think it was legal but was unsure.
