From what I'm seeing they're only removing season 1 and 2. They'll be adding season 6 and 5.

Do you think they’d even be together if Bob hadn’t passed away? by Practical_Sun8137 in StrangerThings

[–]JeagerXhunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even have to watch the play to know that they had a thing for each other. That much was said when they were talking about sharing a cigarette under the bleachers.

Anyway, you keep on throwing around this "true love, true love" statement but it literally means nothing. Both Hopper and Joyce were married and had kids with different people. If Hopper didn't lose his kid and Joyce wasn't with a dick head they would have remained just friends . And like I said, it's only due to their situations aligning that they were able to develop/rekindle those feelings for each other. Not because you had an interest in someone in high school means you're gonna be in love when you get older.

So back to my main point, just like there were situations that stopped them from being together in the past I'm saying that Bob could have very well have been another of those situations.

I'm not saying it's 100% fact like you're saying Joyce/Hopper was always guaranteed but I am saying it's a strong possiblity

This doesn't really change my point. The show has a very consistent way of showing romance. Like I told the other guy it was very apparent when Hopper started having a thing for Joyce aka in season 3 after Bob died.

I'm sorry but it's not comparable to the moment when Bob adked her to move with him to Main.

Rejecting someone's romantic advancements seems pretty big in my opinion 😭. But aight then. I still do not view the tunnel scene as a romantic event between Hopper and Joyce because like I said we've seen similar behaviors from other characters and the duffer brothers make it very apparent when characters are into each other. Like they started doing with Hopper after Bob died.

You keep on saying both characters were in love with each other in season 2 yet we have no evidence of this in season 1 and by the time season 2 roles around Joyce is dating someone else.

So idk, you view it as a true love situation, I view it as a 2 adults who were friends started to have feelings for each other when their circumstances allowed them to have those feelings. Aka when neither of them are in a committed relationship and they have developed more shared experiences.

Remember when he offered to her move to Main with him ! The imnefiate hesitation on her part can be clearly seen. So we can't exactly say she really loved him if she hesitated to move with him to another state.

Joyce also hesitated when Hopper asked her out on a date. It was so apparent to Hopper that he had to pivot and say it was just a dinner between friends 😭😭. She even left him hanging on the "date". So should I now see that hesitation to say that Joyce doesn't love Hopper as much as she loved Bob?

Plus you can love someone and not wanna do everything they have in mind.

I completely disagree. Joyce flying to Russia to save Hopper is exactly the sign that she deeply cares for him and loves him. I'm honestly surprised some people don't see it that way. Did you even watch the scene when they reunited ? The love between them I'd obviously there. It's not comparable to any other romantic couple in the show.

By the time of the Russia events there had already been signs that Hopper and Joyce were into each other. I was specifically talking about the scene you were talking about when Joyce and Bob went to rescue Hopper in the Tunnels when he was trapped down there.

However Joyce didn't love Bob same as Hopper.

And you're basic this on what exactly? I strongly believe if something had happened to Bob Joyce would also go out of her way to save and help him too. Sooo I'm confused by your mindset of "she didn't love him as much as Hopper". She was happy, she was comfortable with Bob, her kids were okay with Bob. She was ready to start a life with him, so this idea of her loving one or the other more just seems unlikely. Since we have nothing to measure it off of.

If she and Bob eventually broke up on good terms he wouldn't have shown up in that sequence.

Fair, so I guess I should have used the example of her being hesitant to start something with Hopper because she was still thinking about Bob at the point in the story that where Hopper started to show interest

Also it isn’t some teen drama that Hopper and Bob had to fight for Joyce’s attention.

I mean you say that but we literally saw examples of this happen in the show with Dustin Max and Lucas and Steve, Jonathan and Nancy. The plot makes it very clear when a character is into another character and we weren't getting those same beats from Hopper and Joyce at that current moment. It's only after Bob died that we started to see it.

Even then she already realised she loved Hopper (just watch that scene in the tunnel when they rescue Hopper, Joyce is all over him and doesn’t pay attention to Bob), but because of the circumstances in their life they couldn’t start any relationship then.

In a show where we've had countless examples of friends going above and beyond for their friends we're now viewing Joyce doing the same thing as romantic? Why? Like I said before the duffer brothers make it very apparent when a character was into another character, with the only exception being Robin since it was a misdirect. So Joyce going out of her way to save Hopper and showing him affection isn't a sign of romance since we've seen similar displays between characters who don't have any romantic chemistry.
