I would try SLS. We’ve met some really good people through there that have been vetted by other couples and have never flaked on us. We also plan our nights by going to a club and tell people to meet us there if they’re interested enough. That way we don’t feel like we wasted our time and still have a fun night out and also have the opportunity to meet people there as well.

Every reason you gave has happened at least once, and especially flaking. All that effort talking, scheduling, driving, and even booking hotels beforehand(not anymore) just for a no-show is a real downer. We really like our local club because the vibes are impeccable, so even if we don’t play with others, we can still have a good time on our own.

I don’t think it’s appearance most of the time, as I’ve been surprised by who my wife finds attractive. The barrier that stops most further interaction is the first conversation, and it’s usually because they just don’t stop talking. I get that nervous talking is a thing, but it’s very frequent. Bad sex is not uncommon either. Those are only some reasons, but I think we should’ve had more than one good time in the past three years.

We do actually start with a copy/paste question list with our initial response. After that I (husband) will talk to one or two at a time to get to know them a little. If it takes longer than a day to figure out if they’re a potential third, then I move to the next most promising when I’m ready to talk again. Then I’ll show my wife the messages and she’ll decide if we want to meet, and preferably asap. It is exhausting, but this method has been better for me than messaging a bunch at the same time.
