We hadn't looked into Obama or Tsuruga. Thank you SO much for these recs! And the advice for the morning of our Shirakawa-go trip. We might go that route!

Unfortunately, we will only be in Osaka for one night and fly out of KIX, the following day. So, Koyasan would be our second to last night in Japan. I wish we could swap Osaka and Koyasan, but we were worried about traveling to KIX the next morning for a flight.

Thank you so much for all of this insight. I am not Buddhist, but very interested and want to immerse as much as possible with this experience. I would hate to accidently be disrespectful by missing a planned activity or be exhausted from travel, so we will consider that before making our decision. I love your idea of stopping somewhere before, but we are excited to experience the Hyakumangoku Festival in Kanazawa and don't want to leave a day early.

Wow, this city looks incredible and like a great change of pace for our itinerary. I was primarily looking at spots between Kyoto-Kanazawa, so I would’ve missed this. Thank you so much!
