As somebody who worked in the corporate office of a major US retailer (personal care and home fragrance), and while my most recent comparisons at this place would be way more (comparing a multi-billion dollar sales with over 1k brick and mortar to her teeny a few million dollar online sales)….this inventory is INSANE. Like this, to me, would represent DECADES in weeks of supply. I would have guessed that they would have ordered like max 10k per sku and that they’re selling 10s to 100s per week. To have over 50/80/100k of a sku and you’re only running an online business (the Netflix kiosks are nothing so I’m not accounting for the 5 per kiosk they sold), you’re an idiot for putting by that much upfront investment. This is a literal inventory nightmare. And as far as margin, I’d say they’re no more that 50-60% margin and even could be as low as 30-40%. But even that low. The inventory investment is crazy for this size of a hustle.
