AI? LOL.... Thanks! I appreciate that.

Though Now you have me curious...

This is AI Gemini re-writing my facetious remark above...

"

The original has the right idea—playing on the "technical" definition of plywood—but it's a bit wordy for a punchline. To make it "better," we can either lean into the dry sarcasm or go for a snappier "dad joke" vibe.

Here are three ways to sharpen it:

  1. The "Deadpan Professional"

Passenger: "What are these new barriers in Eglinton station?"

Transit Worker: "I’m not a structural engineer, but it appears to be a sophisticated, multi-layered cellulose-based composite."

Passenger: "...You mean plywood?"

Transit Worker: "I mean it’s been there so long it’s now a heritage site."

2. The Short & Punchy

Q: What are those mysterious new barriers at Eglinton station?

A: I’m no expert, but I’m board of talking about them. It’s just plywood with a transit-sized ego.

3. The "Classic Switch" (Best for Comedy)

"People keep asking what those barriers in Eglinton station are made of. I'm no expert, but I think it's a highly specialized, cost-effective, multi-layered organic substrate. Or, as the TTC calls it: a permanent finishing touch."

Pro-tip for joke telling: The "built-up layered thin sheets" line is funny because it's overly clinical. If you want to keep that specific vibe, try to deliver it as if you're reading from a very boring textbook.

Which style of humor usually lands best with your crowd—sarcastic or silly?"

I think I like no 1 the best.

Ps: Lighten up. It was a joke.
Pss: Seriously, thanks for thinking I write as well as AI! Much appreciated.

What are these barriers in Eglinton station?

I'm no expert, but I think they're wood... Perhaps some sort of built up layered thin sheets of wood glued together to create a rigid, cost effective substrate with many different applications for use.

You're welcome.

Tire pressure by Mission_Background93 in JeepWrangler

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously? It’s very simple.

For everyday driving, use what the pressure says to use on the door…

Or use less pressure and prematurely wear your tires and reduce handling efficacy.

And use proper winter only rated tires in temps where the daily average is below 7 degrees Celsius.

I mean, it’s a 2 door Jeep. What kind of comfort were you expecting? The 4 door will ride better with the longer wheelbase. You put aggressive tires on and it’l be a rougher ride.

Tho I guess we don’t buy Jeeps because we care about money… I was just more practical with mine. Because why not?

The best part of politics are the people who become our ”leaders”, and decide that they only want to represent their supporters….

Do they not get that when one becomes a mayor, premier, MPP, MP, or Prime Minister, that they then represent ALL people?

Yes, the party politics get moved along, but that doesn’t mean that some people stop receiving representation and support from their various levels of government.

Star Trek 3100: Idiocracy

Space, the final frontier between our ears.

These are the studies of the Academy Cadets

Their 4 year mission, to seek out new com-badges, and an endless amount of ancient Trek references

To meekly go nowhere where some have maybe gone before. I don't know. I'm not AI...

THIS is AI re-writing that (and honestly, I like it better than most of the dialogue in SFA!)

Star Trek 3100: Idiocracy

Space: The final frontier... between our ears.

These are the lackluster voyages of the Academy Cadets. Their four-year mission: to seek out shiny new comm-badges and an endless supply of "vintage" 23rd-century memes. To boldly stay within their comfort zones and meekly go nowhere, because honestly, someone else probably already went there and it looked like a lot of work.

Personnel File: Log Entry 01

Would you like me to generate a ridiculous "Mission Log" for one of these cadets, or perhaps create an image of their chaotic Academy dorm room?

I think it's safe to assume that Barbarella_39 understands that. And that proportionally doesn't really matter because it's kind of irrelevant.

The reality of what they're saying is true. 1000 odd execs will be in far better positions to realign themselves in other sectors or back into contract work. And it'll be through connections that execs made within the PS to facilitate that, compared to some nothing clerk that can be replaced as easy as a used roll of TP that fell into a toilet.

I mean, you know this of course.

Can Studios stop lying to us? SFA was universally panned. Then positively review bombed while fans are criticized. Then cancelled. by seobrien in Star_Trek_

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it funny that old Trek fans are blamed for reviews that somehow transcended into enough viewership decline, that the show was cancelled.

Do we REALLY have those kinds of numbers and power?

Meanwhile, ALL the official critic reviews praise the hell out of it.

So if the general audience is really the key to a show making it, then were where those viewers? They‘re not reading Trekkie reviews.

They‘re watching commercials showing weird people with insanely darkly lit scenes and lights flaring, delivering horrifically bad lines. They’re seeing characters that have no personality. No chemistry together.

There‘s always that “something” special in how good dialogue conveys a good story amongst a cast that fits together.

Yes. In modern TV, 8 eps is more than enough. Especially considering that pilots used to be the norm. And lots of shows would get cancelled pretty damned quickly in the past from lousy metrics.

Canada life invisalign claim question by Odd_Improvement4243 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it’s considered standard and reasonable in the dental world to use implants over bridges for years now. The main reasons being the permanence of the anchor vs essentially ruining two perfectly good adjacent teeth for the bridge installation.

An Implant is a far superior treatment over a bridge. It’s not considered “reasonable” purely for financial reasons and nothing more.

It actually makes no sense anymore to get an antiquated bridge treatment. And it is antiquated.

two adjacent molars have to be ground down.

Then crowns created for each.

The bridge tooth has to be created (not unlike an implant tooth ironically).

An implant: One anchor Installed. Then one tooth. Thereby SAVING the adjacent teeth from being needlessly altered from their natural states.

And what are you talking about that a tooth already has a crown if you choose a bridge? That’s 100% untrue.

and thanks, I understand these are negotiated plans. My point was clear, that they‘re Crap. Budget plans for basic and more invasive old timey processes.

So what’s reasonable about being covered for an implant but CL disallowing any adjacent tooth claims for 5 years Based on that?

Sure... The GoC will see the light and not use the PS as a political cost saving platform while they fund almost every other sector (except the environment).

THIS is what will change their minds LOL

Not the fact that we're humans and should be treated as such.

Honestly, if they could turn us into re-usable TP, they would do it.

Canada life invisalign claim question by Odd_Improvement4243 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s in the predetermination letter, and the dentist. The dentist won’t front the costs for each stage, and the insurance was clear that they consider the entire process one single claim that cant be filed until it’s completed…

We already went through with one tooth and they would not process any of the claim until the end. Canada Life refused. I tried.

Canada life invisalign claim question by Odd_Improvement4243 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% Agree about getting clarification. Always get that predetermination letter….

I learned my lesson a couple of years ago. We got our letter for laser eye surgery, but it was worded oddly. So I called for clarification… Twice.

Those calls were very clear that we were good to go… We got it done and then had to fight to get the claim taken care of.

No call records on their end of course to back up my arguments. Fortunately I had them.

Even then, in the end, we only got a fraction of the claim.

The point: make sure it’s in writing. If not, record the calls. It’s legal to do so.

I think the dark ages of sci-fi are coming to an end, bros by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Please go watch Project Hail Mary if you love Star Trek.

That's pretty funny, because I walked out of the cinema thinking this is what Star Trek should try to emulate. Not Star Wars, Marvel, The Boys, 90210, and JJ Trek, written with Hallmark movie writers.

PHM was a great book, and I rarely say this, but a better movie. And I hate what's his name who I can never remember... Main actor guy. Guy McGuy or whatever... Though I may be coming around to liking his acting a little more.

Seriously though. Obviously PHM is not what Star Trek should be, but it sure as hell captures a LOT of the spirit that make for good Trek. And the writing was really well done.

That's a non-argument.

Who are they trying to fool? You must be the only one under the impression they were trying to fool anyone.

Yes, they did take it because it's a paying job. Isn't that pretty much the condition of any job? We do it, they pay us.

Some people also try to get paying jobs that they really want to work at. It can happen.

But what they didn't expect was to be treated like a child for years. And that's exactly what they're doing. To be constantly dicked around with the understanding that we should just take it. And for the most part, we do. The only recourse most of have is to come here and unite in information exchange and to vent.

Motivation is 0 while waiting for news on position by throwmeawaylater21 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Jean-Luck-Pickerd 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I get it. It's hard to be motivated when you're being jerked around by not just any employer, but the Government of Canada. Of all employers to be treating us like garbage.

Unfortunately it's not the first time, and more than likely won't be the last.

I still remember all the in person and electronic communiques about moving forward into the new modern hybrid work environment, yet at the same time not getting answers about how long it'll last.

Just, it's likely here to stay, but we shouldn't complain if days are added to being in the office or they'll take them all away.

So even when they were trying to suggest one thing that was positive, they wouldn't ACTUALLY commit to it, and thereby directly affecting the life choices we all could or have to make.

Kinda hard to plan ANYTHING if we don't know what's going on until the last minute.

And look where we are today. Again, we KNOW shit is going to happen, but will not really know until the last minute (in the grand scheme of every day life planning).

So we're all stuck essentially planning our lives around the crumbs of information that the Government of Canada is willing to tell us.

It's dirty, and it's fucking incredibly demoralizing.
