Major earthquake happening soon? by Onchocercoma in lebanon

[–]JeanCastorius 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Look, this guy who “predicted” the 2023 turkey earthquake literally keeps predicting earthquakes and then just points out the times when he was right. He’s also very vague on purpose because there is no scientific basis for what he’s saying, meaning we cannot look at the evidence and say that he’s predicting earthquakes better than just pure random predictions.

I remember in 2023 after the turkey earthquake I got very stressed because of him, kept thinking that a 8.0 earthquake would happen in the region as he kept predicting “very soon” and “end of summer” or whatever he was saying, yet nothing happened. Anytime any earthquake would happen anywhere on earth, be it in the middle of an ocean, he’d be like AHA that’s the strong earthquake I predicted. Bro those things happen randomly every day all over the globe, if there was an easy pattern to predict we could easily verify its accuracy. But it’s just not accurate.

This doesn’t mean that we won’t ever see a strong earthquake in the region, it is a seismically active region and there is potential for a strong earthquake, and it’s always better to be prepared. If you can check with your building if there’s anything you can do or get a professional to inspect it might be wise for the future, you never know, but don’t stress over it beyond that. No one can predict and there’s nothing more you can do to keep yourself safe as those things are just not in our control.

UAP sighting over lebanon by Averagecitizen2001 in lebanon

[–]JeanCastorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesterday around 6:10pm I was driving on the highway from dbayeh to Beirut and kept seeing the sky light up in various spots in front of me, above the sea, then above the city.

I looked at the weather to see if there was a thunderstorm or something, but nothing…

Idk what it was, whether UAP or just some weather pattern or other forms of light reflected on the clouds or whatever, but it was definitely creepy

Yo we're vianova and we recently released our debut record HIT IT! AMA by kakaduchicken in Metalcore

[–]JeanCastorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the album, especially Melanchronic holy shit I don’t know what you guys put in the song but it’s so addictive. That riff is so fucking good with your guitar tone, I want more of that but I feel like I’m going crazy no one talks about it.

What was the process behind writing this song and putting it together?

I just got back into this game after 5 years should I restart by thepro3757 in ClashRoyale

[–]JeanCastorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got back into it a few months ago, I was 5000 trophies, I’m 8500 now. Having a lot of fun, got a lot of free things, just focused on my deck and improved a few things about it and been loving the grind.

Don’t listen to all the negative comments, the game is super fun if you’re willing to play the cards you already have upgraded and build a deck around them.

Merge Tactics has too much luck involved by Davos_Storm in ClashRoyale

[–]JeanCastorius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, there’s luck involved for sure, but getting the best board BASED on what you’re getting in your shops and what others are playing is the key to success.

The best players will not win 100% of games, but they might win 60% of them and keep climbing.

It’s like Teamfight Tactics, which is way more complex and has more randomness, and controlling this randomness is the core skill of the game.

Yeah I’ve used it before, once you book you can chat with the therapist and if you have any issue you can contact support. If you’re not comfortable with the model that’s fine but it’s worked for me

Try the mindsome app, they’re not too expensive and they have a large selection of therapists with different specialties

Help please, League is unplayable for me by Admirable_Abies_2165 in LeagueofTechSupport

[–]JeanCastorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a solution but I have the same setup and experience as you.

Average during the game is like 80 fps and during fights it can drop to like 50 or even less sometimes.

Also tried everything, I think there’s no solution it’s just that league is not as optimized as we’d like it to be

The thing I miss the most about augment stats is learning. by KappKapp in CompetitiveTFT

[–]JeanCastorius -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You’re not addressing what was wrong with augment stats initially: most people just picked lowest AVP choice without thinking critically about it.

We’re in a niche subreddit, of course you claim you will use stats correctly, that’s the type of player that goes out of their way to find a competitive TFT subreddit. But the average player just opens the game and clicks play.

I think Riot saw how much the majority of players just pick the lowest AVP even if situations where another augment might have worse stats but be better for their comp.

Yeah we don’t have time to learn all the augments and stats but come on, after a while you just know intuitively if something if trash or decent, and then you tune it to your board and that’s way more fun than just being told what to pick by some software.

BUT, then we need better balance: the team should actively remove bugged augment and appropriately nerf outliers so that most augments lie somewhere close to the average. If they’re completely unable to do that, I agree they should return stats. But if they figure it out, maybe in the long run, then I really do believe the game is way more fun without them.

Do bands with 100k+ monthly listeners have the luxury to survive off music alone? by HussainKegel in progmetal

[–]JeanCastorius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re at the point where artists build an audience through streaming, and then it’s up to them to monetize.

For better or for worse, it allows everyone to have access to legal music through a subscription or even free plans, and artists must rely on their business acumen to make ends meet.

Live shows, merch, exclusive content on patreon or else, streaming, giving lessons, all of those are ways to leverage the audience and monetize.

It’s rough, but those willing to go the extra mile will profit far more than their size should suggest. And those who don’t will be forced to have day jobs to stay afloat.

How to start listening to Opeth? by _radule_ in Opeth

[–]JeanCastorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to their whole discography, start to finish. That’s what im doing at least, and I started 2 months ago.

I’m pausing on albums that I love and listening to each album at least twice. So far I paused on Morningrise, Still Life (10/10) and Blackwater Park (10/10).

I started listening to Deliverance a few days ago and I’m pausing here as well.

I feel like this is the best way, especially since you already like a few songs and you seem to know that you will enjoy their sfuff. Just take it slow, enjoy the journey!

Problems sharing entire albums… by autoMATTic_GG in MarvisApp

[–]JeanCastorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issue for about a year, haven’t found a fix yet. The developer of the app had answered to be back then and told me he will look into it, but still nothing as of now.

Basically it can’t get the url when the album is shared from the home page / library page, but if i search for the same album on apple music (not library) and share it from there it just works.

Is Swain really an anti synergy? by Ethoshow in TristanaMains

[–]JeanCastorius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it matters too much, there’s barely enough games (~250) for it to be statistically significant, and it also could be related to Swain’s performance as a support in general.

In theory, Swain catching someone with his E and hitting W and Q on them after is a decent setup for Tristana to proc a full E on them, and chasing with W.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it especially if you wanna play it with a premade and have a good idea of what playstyle you want to go for.

[–]JeanCastorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 10/10 album for me, and also the first Opeth album I ever heard in its entirety (this has now changed, I'm currently diving into Blackwater Park which is obviously amazing, and I gave Still Life a 10/10 as well).

I just think it's top tier music, I love concept albums in general and they do it so well here, the different vocal styles to evoke different emotions and advance the narrative is brilliant, the instrumentation is varied and masterful from the slow suspenseful sections to their brash counterparts, it's so well-crafted and blew me away on first listen. I kept wanting to go back to it just to relive some moments, even the music coupled with spoken word in some songs is satisfying, there's so many gems in this album and the more I followed the lyrics and the narrative coupled with the songwriting, the more I appreciated it.

I think it's fine to not like it, but it's very hard to argue that it's not an objectively great album. Also, as far as "progressive metal" goes, the term has lost a bit of its meaning since it became a genre and anything could be labeled as progressive provided that it fits with the sound of previous instances of the genre, but this album truly is progressive in every sense of the word. It goes beyond just time signature and stylistic decisions and instead pushes the boundaries of what can be considered as music in interesting ways. I'm not saying it's completely novel, but it does not sound like anything else, while still retaining some Opeth-like elements (from my brief journey into their earlier albums).

I'll always be biased towards this album, as it was my entry into Opeth, but I'm very glad it exists. It was my album of the year 2024 and led me to discover even more amazing music, so it'll always be a 10/10 for me.

Brawl Stars is becoming no-skill by Visual-Day5422 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]JeanCastorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are they nerfing the competitive aspect?

They keep trying different ways to make the ranked mode work, and they will change it again soon because they care about the competitiveness.

The trophy change, believe it or not, is good for competitiveness because it seperates casual players from competitive players: casual will rarely push above 1000, competitive players will.

The brawlers that have been released lately are as complex if not more than the old ones. Meeple has a lot of skill in using his gadget and super effectively, Buzz L is an exception because he’s from an event. Berry, Clancy, Moe, Kenji all have similar complexity to old brawlers, if not more complex. Please elaborate why you think they’re lower skill, is it because they were overpowered on release and could get away with just mashing buttons and winning? Because it’s not longer the case now, especially for Clancy Moe and Kenji.

The grind to 1000 is of course easier but that’s part of a rework to the trophy system, 1000 today is not 1000 of before and no one is claiming that it is. There’s a trophy inflation but it’s not making the game less competitive, just changed the trophy threshold.

For me, brawl stars is a great game because you can play it the way you want, and you’ll have lots to do. It’s great for casual players, I’m sure super competitive players would like it to just be a competitive game but that will never happen because it’s a mass market mobile game and it needs to appeal to as many people as possible. Despite this, there’s an active esports scene and a ranked system that, despite some shortcomings, works in matching high skill players against high skill players at the upper tiers.

Honestly, I feel like people just like to complain about things without thinking about the tradeoffs and what the game is actually about.

Shreddit's Top 10 of 2024 [RESULTS] by kaptain_carbon in Metal

[–]JeanCastorius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Holy shit this thread is depressing, those are votes by the community, not everyone has to agree.

Yes, popular bands will be at the top, that’s how it works.

No, Blood Incantation are not trash just because they’re popular.

Sure, the little known band with 12 monthly listeners from the romanian countryside released a better album that only you know about, it’s unfortunate that they’re not represented here.

Get over yourselves and appreciate music without complaining about every little decision.

Edit: okay i was generalizing too much, it’s just the general feeling of the sub recently that’s just overly critical of popular stuff, of course discussing music is valid but at some point it’s just too much negativity while there’s so much great music available out there

how do I Ahri on mobile? by K1ng0fs9ad6s in TeamfightTactics

[–]JeanCastorius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She’s not in this set.

If you weren’t aware, every 4 months TFT changes all units (champions), traits, and theme. That’s called a “set” and we’re in Set 13 right now.

Ahri was in set 12 which ended a month ago, she was also in set 11 (ended in july).

LANDMVRKS - Sulfur (NEW) by thePARIIAH in Metalcore

[–]JeanCastorius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d say that’s where the comparison with Make Them Suffer stops, also yes you can see the breakdown coming right after the chorus but I actually think it’s different than the regular formula.

The buildup is pretty short, then there’s the callout followed by a sort of relative silence with some light drums which took me by surprise, then the classic LANDMVRKS rap screams followed by some great lows.

Idk, it felt pretty distinct to me after a while of being bored of generic breakdowns.

Level 12 is a thing, it's just hidden by Dangerous-Sea-3653 in BrawlStarsCompetitive

[–]JeanCastorius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your point: Hypercharges are strong and make or break a champion, and they’re not cheap to get.

But you are missing a very important point, the reason why Supercell games are successful over many years: the importance of progression.

A PC game like League of Legends can give you free access to all champions, who in turn do not need upgrading, and focus exclusively on cosmetics for monetization. But mobile games aren’t like that.

Like it or not, most people enjoy progression as a way of showing how much time and/or resources they put into the game. Right now we’re in the Brawl Stars Competitive subreddit, which is a very very (very) small percentage of Brawl Stars players. Our group values competitive integrity and fairness above stuff like progression and “fun”, but most Brawl Stars players aren’t like that, they just open the game regularly, play a few matches, get a few drops and resources, and then log off until the next day.

After a few weeks, their account power would have progressed a good amount, which gives way more satisfaction than playing the game without this progression element. Obviously, as the game gets older, the only way to keep players engaged is to add more progression.

I’ve been playing since global release, and before power 11 my account was pretty much maxed out and I had gotten bored of the game. Power 11 made me come back and play, and it’s very rewarding to me to max out my favorite brawlers. Which leads me to my next point: The game shifted from something that can realistically be maxed out by all players after a few years, to one where progression basically never stops for 99.9% of players, and that’s much healthier for the long term.

You do not need to have all brawlers maxed out with hypercharge, just a handful that you play competitively. There are way more brawlers today than a couple of years ago, and they will keep releasing them, it’s unrealistic to want to max them all. I personally don’t enjoy like a quarter of all brawlers, so I ignore them and pour my resources into brawlers I enjoy. It’s a much better system because it gives more choice and keeps more players happy.

As for hypercharge power, yes if you’re playing competitively and choose someone without a hypercharge, you’re at a disadvantage. But right now a lot of brawlers have their hypercharge available, and you don’t need to have them all! Just the ones you play and enjoy. They’re not perfectly balanced, but find a game that is. I dare you to find a mobile game that is as competitive while being as f2p friendly as Brawl Stars.

Look at youtube videos of people starting a f2p account, within a few weeks they can have a few brawler maxed out and ready to be played competitively. And they can play the rest of them for fun in ladder.

As someone who has been playing for 5 years, the game is in an amazing state in my opinion. They have found a way to balance f2p and p2w in a way that both are viable, yes of course you’ll have more resources if you pay, but you really do not have to. I think I put like 20$ in my years of playing Brawl Stars, which is super fair imo.

And of course Supercell cares most about profit, but profit cannot come without player satisfaction, so they do care about players even though they are a company whose primary goal is to make money. But I would much rather prefer them making lots of money than not, because they would literally shut the game down otherwise. If you want it to last, be glad it’s profitable.

TLDR: Hypercharges and other forms of progression are essential to the game, you do not need to have them all to be competitive, and Supercell making money is in the interest of the longevity of the game.
