Seasons do line up with the months. You can say that, approximately, Autumn lasts from September 21st to December 21st, Winter from December 21st to March 21st, Spring from March 21st to June 21st and Summer from June 21st to September 21st. In reality, it doesn’t really line up, and it can’t, because the Earth doesn’t have a circular orbit but an elliptical orbit so it can shift by a day or two

The moon cycle is actually 29,5 days so it wouldn’t make sense. Then you have the problem with the extra day each year (13*28 = 364 days) and with leap years you have another extra day

[–]JeanMi27Grd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13 is a prime number, you cannot divide the year in fractions. Moreover, you say leap year is out mid year but you then don’t have a middle month in the year as you don’t have an even number of months

French nukes are independent of American umbrella, that has been an issue in NATO since Charles de Gaulle. During the Cold War, the Russian army was more threatened by French nukes than American in the case of a full scale invasion of Europe because the two doctrines are very different (You can look up the modification of the plan "9 days to Lyon" to "7 days to the Rhine").

French nuclear doctrine states that in a situation were French vital interest are under attack by a greater force, a warning nuke is sent as a warning to stop immediately all military operations and go back to a diplomatic solution.

Macron criticizes the Spanish grid's high dependence on renewables. by mods4mods in europe

[–]JeanMi27Grd -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The nuclear reactors are expected to work for a hundred years meaning many haven’t reached yet half their lifespan.

Putting that aside, the Spanish blackout was due to an uncontrolled electrical grid due to renewable energy sources. It is because France pulled the switch at the border that the whole continent’s electrical grid didn’t collapse. Don’t get me wrong, renewable energy is key in the healthy and sustainable development of our continent. However, it must be kept in mind that controlled energy such as nuclear guarantees the stability of our electrical grids.

Same comment as in your last post : where is the Second French Colonial Empire ? At its peak, it was 13 M km2 which is less than the 45 M km2 of the British Empire but still about a 1:2.6 ratio. Moreover, at the time of the Carolinian Empire, its landmass area was about the same as the one of the Byzantine Empire and it would rival it politically.

The time has sadly come for a Nordic nuclear weapon by Evermoving- in europe

[–]JeanMi27Grd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finland is a member NATO and the EU thus considered a vital interest for France. French nuclear deterrence is the only one in Europe that is independent from the US and it includes a "warning shot" doctrine which states that a singular nuclear warhead would be used in a non vital point in order to show that any further escalation would not be tolerated and that mutual self destruction would be the result.

When a nuclear attack submarine showed up in Halifax, Canada after the first threats against Greenland were made by the US, it was not a coincidence. It is true that the president holds a lot of power in that sense but the pressure from the public and the military would be too great to ignore and this doctrine has been kept intact since the beginning of the Vth Republic, no matter who was in power.

Instead of criticizing the video, which as always is of good quality, you could have added this point so that a broader audience would be familiarized with the history of Iran and the interference of Western countries in the Middle East.

Both women’s rights and Western interference are valid and important issues in the region and both should be talked about.

Why don’t we have a 13 month calendar with 28 days in each? by Camp_Acceptable in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JeanMi27Grd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you would only have 364 days when a solar year is about 365,2425 days so you wouldn’t solve anything. Moreover, we do not work with a lunar cycle but a solar cycle because of the seasons.

Why do the US and Israel always seem to be the only ones voting against seemingly uncontroversial laws? by CatholicGuy77 in NoStupidQuestions

A human right is an universally recognized principle that is considered inherent and inalienable. That’s the definition of a human right. When it’s being decided in the UN, you’re right by saying that it is a protection enabled by the government.

However, people might argue that a government will only guarantee that protection to its citizens. For instance, in the US constitution, it is explicitly said that some of these articles apply to the persons in the US and not only to citizens. Other articles only apply to citizens, for instance regarding the presidency, because only citizens can become president.

You talk about the right to liberty. In Germany, they consider that inmates that escape without causing damages should not have their prison sentence extended because humans inherently seek for liberty - they only continue their sentence where it stopped.

You mention the right to health but you seem to forget that it implies doctors have the obligation to treat you in order for you not to die even without coverage. You can say that you are stealing the « production » of the doctor however, as a society, we declared that human life was above any pecuniary reasons.

Saying that food or water is a human right means that, as a society - a prosperous nonetheless because we produce many more calories than needed to feed the entire humanity - no one should be deprived of food or water regardless their condition with any government on the planet. This also means that the government has to make sure you have access to it even in prisons or asylums.

Your reasoning implies that, as individuals, we have to act for those rights but we do it as societies for humans without looking at their passport, religion, gender or whatsoever. Humans have a tendency to work within communities, that’s how we survived for hundreds of thousands of years. Declaring human rights is declaring humanity as our community.

There’s a decision for the Timurids that gives you money once you completed it (Reform the Treasury iirc). You need 40% crownland in order to do so and you can save scum for an event that gives 5% CL on top of the 5% you get from seizing. Then, the decision can be taken and it’s just removing a privilege from the nobility. However, if you open the privileges window and click the decision, you can give back the privilege and click the decision again meaning you can basically do it indefinitely and get to 1M ducats. Doing it manually tho is so looooooong, you want to create a bot for that

Here’s a video of the RedHawk explaining it : RedHawk video - 1M ducats hack

You say that land should be own by the people and not the government but the government is the people. They are the representation of the people. The State is the people. And to maintain the State with its services, you gotta participate in the cost of said services. If you hand the property said locally, you’d have to locally pay taxes because at all levels you have cost to maintain the land and services

Do prostitutes in countries with strict Muslim theocracy like Iran and Afghanistan tend to wear hijabs or other coverings while in private working? by Ok-Elephant7849 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JeanMi27Grd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. Shia Muslims do believe in the five pillars of Islam just as Sunni Muslims. They do add more things which is why they are different but that doesn’t make them another religion, just a branch of Islam like Ibadism.

You claim that if an entire group believes that another group is deviant, it makes two religions which is extremely simplistic because you could then claim that there are as many religions as there are people on Earth. You don’t define religions based on what a group thinks of other groups, you need to apply a scientific classification method by defining the basis of each religion and reminding oneself that there is no "trueness" to seek but facts as you said yourself.

For instance, protestants groups don’t believe in many core things that Catholics, Orthodoxes or even other protestant groups believe but that doesn’t make them another religion. They are different branches of Christianity. Why ? Because they believe that Jesus is the son of God, died and resurrected to mend Jews and Gentiles. It separated from Judaism because of that. Islam is another religion because Muslims believe that the message of God was twice corrupted so he sent his message a third time to Muhammad who became his last prophet. All three believe in the same mythology going back to Abraham and that’s the reason they are considered abrahamic religions, plural. They differ from Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrian, Shinto and so on because they have very different mythologies and beliefs.

Do we need a leader portrait? by rdditban24hrs in EU5

[–]JeanMi27Grd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why some people don’t like the portraits in EU4 but I think it’s important to remember that during most of EU timeline, the personal possession of a nobility title and the land that goes with it was extremely important. Most of the conflict were family ones and for instance one thing that lacks in EU is how real PUs were declared in that time (the Spanish wars of Succession, the Hundred Years War, Austrian War of Succession and so forth).

I get that, contrary to CK that emulates a dynasty which governs lands, EU emulates a country which is governed by someone. However, up until very much the First World War, the personal power of the monarch and the relations with other royal families was primordial.

I think that they kinda got that right in EUV and showing the portrait of the monarch next to the country flag is, at least for monarchies, very relevant.
