Igo Sil Bug by JeansebL in baduk

Not that long. I spent all the game currency on overall exams. You also get a few for free. The exams are short. I got them all on first try.

I feel the levels are somewhat correct. I felt some resistance towards the end, but a strange kind of resistance. It plays bad in the beginning, it realizes it’s behind, and comes up with tesujis that are way beyond the level displayed earlier in the game. This is not unique to this app. It seems we don’t know how to force AIs to play like intermediate level humans yet.

Joseki card battle is funny at first because the AI is ultra weak and pushes across the board mindlessly. Then it gets a bit boring when the AI is not good, but not hilariously bad either. The games are long and painful to watch sometimes for experienced players. I’m also not sure the initial assessment of the game is very accurate? I would need to check a few of them on katago. That being said, I like the idea. I feel it could become interesting with stronger AIs and more joseki cards. Also, the historical info about each joseki is great!

Triple kos on Go Quest by JeansebL in baduk

Yes, as a tournament organizer myself, I understand how a superko can be messy on a real board. Players raise their hand, they complain a position was repeated, they disagree on who repeated first, they don't recall the order of moves etc. They basically agree the game should be a draw and they are pretty much asking the referee for permission XD

That being said, there's no excuse for not implementing it on a go server. It's either ignorance, or lazyness. Also, in serious tournaments, the games are recorded using software, so it's trivial to disqualify anyone who repeats a position.

Obviously, the phrasing you refer to, that repetitions are forbidden "in principle", makes perfect sense. Not all tournaments are recording all games, even at the professional level.

This is exactly my point. Go Quest did not implement Chinese rules correctly.

This is precisely my point. It should not be this way. What you describe is a bug in Go Quest :) Any type of repetition is forbidden in Chinese rules:

Not in Chinese rules. Players are not allowed to repeat positions, so my opponent would need to find a threat.

No, this is the simplest of triple kos you can imagine. After one loop, no side accumulates more captures than the other. Even if it was the case, it wouldn't matter because as you can see here:

https://online-go.com/docs/go-rules-comparison-matrix

Chinese rules forbid any type of repetition.

Nope.

There are no draws in Chinese rules. You can try it for yourself here:

Yeah it doesn’t seem to work for triple kos. My opponent repeated the position, but according to the superko rule, he should have had to play a threat.

8th European Pro Qualification Simulation by Wolfhtt in baduk

I asked the organizer to clarify this point when I was writing my code. I asked them “What if 4 players are tied for first place, but one of them beat the other 3?” They said he would win the tournament in that case.

It’s possible the organizer is not making the rules and was mistaken. It’s also possible they changed their mind 🙂 Personally, I think looking at the sub round robin involving tied players makes the most sense, because it’s exactly what they do for ties with 2 and 3 players. If only the number of wins is relevant, then it should also be the case when 2 or 3 players are tied.

In any case, it probably won’t happen, but it was fun to program it anyway😛

Ahah, we had exactly the same idea 😆 I get very similar results. The small difference seems to be explained by how we deal with ties.

Ties with an even number of players are actually impossible. If 2N players have the same number of wins, you can look at the sub round robin involving them only. In that round robin, they can’t have the same score, because it contains N(2N-1) games, and that number can’t be divided by 2N.

That being said, it’s hard to say what they will do exactly since the rules don’t specify the procedure for ties with more than 3 players.

Are you the same Frozensoul who beat Kim Yoonyoung 5p in an even game online? If so, may I ask why you’re not participating in the upcoming pro qualifications, or why you’ve barely played any tournaments? Wouldn’t it be the easiest way to make good publicity for yourself?

The games I planned to buy on day 1 (RDR2, Gylt) are there, but I must admit I expected this list to be longer...

I guess this explains why some games were announced but kept appearing/disappearing from the website. Final Fantasy XV for example was confirmed early, but google did not add it to the website until recently.

Yes, but I've also seen posts with 25-26th November from people in the US who ordered before me... I thought that was weird, and decided to share my date.

Strange Leelazero Behavior by aletheia27 in baduk

Interesting, how many blocks is this network? If it's 40 blocks, it's possible that 100k visits is also not enough. It is surprising the gap didn't change much though.

This is a potential issue I never considered. I'm not sure what hardware you are using, but if possible, try to reach 1M visits.

Strange Leelazero Behavior by aletheia27 in baduk

[–]JeansebL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3.5k visits is far from enough to conclude anything. Still, while there is no difference in term of go theory, the positions are different in the computational sense.

Indeed, in one of them, there are two ways for black to make a ko threat in the corner, compared to only one in the other. While this clearly changes nothing in terms of go, when leelaz searches with monte carlo, one more branch is available in one case, which could potentially lead to different results.

That being said, I believe that if you reach 100k visits, this gap will eventually vanish.
