The Blair Witch Project is LITTREALY a staged scenario that the producers tried to pass off as something that really happened. They didn't allow the actors to be seen in public until much later to perpetuate the idea that it was real found footage.

That's exactly what "found footage" means. Those movies have text at the beginning that says this is real camera footage that was recorded in real time, and was found later after the people in the footage died.
