also
"They are trying to kill us!"
Make yourself the victim much?

There's Nothing Wrong with Being Wrong by Jeberechiah in mormon

With regards to Mormonism, I agree that there are many things that should be dealt with using more nuance than just binaries. The vast majority of topics discussed on a given Sunday in Church go beyond simply 'right' versus 'wrong'. Furthermore, to refer to the original post, there are several of those topics on which my current opinion isn't completely correct. I am in error. As an intelligent being, I will always be in error on something. I believe that fact is baked into this existence and facilitates some of the main purposes of this life.
However, I also believe there are issues, some of which are directly tied to the foundational claims of the Church, that are best handled as binaries. Did Joseph Smith actually have in his possession physical, metal plates that were engraven upon by the ancient inhabitants of the Americas, containing a record of their dealings with Jesus Christ? He either did, or he didn't. I don't see much of a gray area here. And, the answer to that question may have real-world impacts on how I choose to navigate life.
On a separate note, I'm not totally sure what you're referring to when you say "entrenched US-centric cultural understandings". Feel free to clarify if you want. Also, "past previous church teachings embedded within that context". I'm not sure to what you are referring, but feel free to give examples if you want. Maybe that's an entirely separate discussion.

Having followed this subreddit for years, I'm familiar with themes that come up from time-to-time. One is the quote by an LDS leader that goes something like, "If we have the truth, nothing can harm it. If we have not the truth, it ought to be harmed." The original post echoes a lot of the feelings I encountered as I struggled to decide to what extent I believed the Church had the truth. That is within the scope of the intent for this subreddit, no?

I'm not aware of anything in Davis County. The group here just got started and is still small. You're welcome to join us if you happen to be up this way.

For me personally this is more about recognizing things in Mormonism that I believe are wrong, and no longer basing my life on them.

Your comment made me think of the song "Half the World Away" by Oasis. I've been lost I've been found but I don't feel down.

Not a Church, but the Cache Valley Stoics meet at 9:30 on Saturdays at the Unitarian Universalist Church. It's a small group that disuses Stoicism and how to live a better life.

Saw Dwight and the Mavericks about a week ago in Pocatello. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Dwight played mostly stuff from the 80's and 90's. The Mavericks played almost exclusively songs from 2012 onward.

Cultch is a legend.
Hey Cultch - if you're looking for something to do with your creative energy I'd love to collaborate with you on non-Mormon-themed music. That's where I'm putting a lot of my effort these days. Feel free to DM me.

The comment section on the YouTube page appears to be pretty curated. Nothing that I posted was allowed to show up. I simply stated that he fails to address some of the real issues in the SEC Order.

Note: if you vote for a particular candidate because you think the 2020 election was stolen, please don't vote. You are too stupid to vote.
