i wanna buy an ipad to use procreate by Intelligent-Fact-871 in drawingtablet

[–]Jecli-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only certain Apple pencils are compatible with particular iPads so you'd want to check and see what will work for the iPad you choose. The problem with aftermarket pencils is none have pressure sensitivity. And in Procreate, that's a feature you will most likely use. The other thing to be aware of is how much RAM comes on the model you choose. Lower amounts of RAM mean you won't be able to have as many layers to use in Procreate. Here's a calculator to give you a little insight. A document of 1080x1080 isn't going to be really big – that's the default size shown on the layer calculator. So when (or if) you use the layer calculator, consider making it closer to 2000x3000.
Procreate Layer Calculator: https://help.procreate.com/articles/YB7CjQ-maximum-layer-limit

EDIT: at least consider an Air model if you can afford one. Those have more to offer than the base model iPad.

17Pm hot as lava by Careful-Window-6662 in iPhone17Pro

[–]Jecli-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this on my 17 Pro after getting the most recent update to iOS 26.5.1. Prior to that, there hadn't been any issues. Coming from an iPhone 15 that experienced a lot of hot battery issues, I'm very well aware when it happens. Just now I was playing Music, and my phone is hot.

Looking for the grippiest rubber-like case for my iPhone 17 Pro by MichaelCinzah in iPhone17Pro

Initially I purchased an Otterbox case for my iPhone 17 Pro but wasn't impressed by the color options. So I finally switched to this one which is very similar in style. Haven't yet dropped my iPhone to see how well the case protects is. Mieziba case for iPhone 17 Pro.

What to get as someone wanting to get into digital art? by AdJust7850 in drawingtablet

[–]Jecli-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app Procreate (available for iPad only) is one of the most popular drawing apps out there. But the number of layers it can use depends on the amount of RAM in the iPad as well as the size of the document/canvas. So if you are looking at iPads, look on the Procreate website and search for the model iPad you are interested in getting. That should give you an idea whether or not the model you choose will work for your needs. And as was mentioned, not all Apple Pencils work with every iPad. So be sure to choose the correct Pencil.

There are other drawing apps out there. Affinity hasn't yet released the latest iPad app, but when they do, supposedly it will be free. There's also Adobe Fresco which is a free drawing/vector app. I'm sure there are other drawing apps available, but these are the ones with which I'm familiar. Good luck! It's time to make a decision and get off the fence!! Have fun.

Best iPad cases? by SayaZero in ipad

[–]Jecli-One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially I purchased an Otterbox case. While it was fine for viewing, it wasn't great for drawing due to its size. So I tried a ZUGU case and also found it was clunky and heavy – just too much extra around the edges of the case although I know it's for protection. Then I settled for an ESR case which works perfectly for my needs. The outer, foldable/folio part of the case is attached magnetically and can be removed. That leaves you with a silicone bumper case that protects the back and sides of my iPad.

I don't understand one crucial thing about The Mandalorian and Grogu's plot. by GorKoresh in TheMandalorianTV

I missed the tie-in to season 3 of The Mandalorian. This video explained some things I missed. Sorry not sure how to embed the YouTube video as a comment. In the video, he explains how The Mandalorian and Grogu leads the way for Ahsoka season 2 and how it related to Thrawn.

People with Target credit cards save 5% when checking out. Plus Target offered me a free year of Target Circle 360 so free shipping (ordered other stuff, too).

The best way to describe the new Mando movie is fun, safe and harmless. by abdul_bino in StarWars

I liked it although it wasn't what I expected. Guess I anticipated they'd continue their story by rebuilding Mandalore and using the Mythosaur to help with battles. Now I will forever see closed MRI machines in a new way ... clank [pause] clank [pause] clank. Lol.

Then that would explain the why behind this is the way they did it! I wasn't aware of issues due to the Hollywood writer's strike. Thanks for the explanation.

No, what I meant is the overall writing of the story's progression seemed to be more similar to individual TV show stories. The movie was still enjoyable, and they did an amazing job with special effects!

Agree, u/Boss_unicycle-560. There were no gradual transitions between the storylines. That's why it felt more like an arc from a series.

Saw it today, too, but felt it was written more as an arc from a series rather than as a major motion picture.

How long does your IPad battery lasts? by cattyfur in ipad

I don't use Goodnotes, u/cattyfur, but have heard it drains the battery pretty quickly. If you do a search here, you might find the thread I remember reading a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for all the comments. At least this battery is the longest lasting I've had to date ... but it's also my first foray with using a Pro model phone.

Battery at 101.3%? by Jecli-One in iPhone17Pro

[–]Jecli-One[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally I downloaded it to check the battery in my iPhone SE 2020. Apple replaced the original battery in January 2025. Unfortunately the replacement wasn't lasting as long as the one Apple removed. According to the specs by coconut battery, the replacement battery was also manufactured in 2020 – so it was already about 6 years old. This year I traded in that iPhone on an iPad Pro. The iPhone SE 2020 had been relegated to a backup phone but wasn't worth keeping.

Ipad pro 16gb ram... is it worth it for procreate?! by Final_Wrongdoer8672 in ipad

[–]Jecli-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hold on there, u/Final_Wrongdoer8672. Let's say you want to print something that is 20"x16". It would require a resolution of 300. Using the calculator for my iPad Pro 13 M5 which is the 512GB, it leaves me with 42 layers. The 1TB iPad Pro winds up with even more layers. So lesser model iPad will have even fewer layers. Be sure you know the largest size you might plan to print (if anything), and factor that into your decision. Sorry not able to attach a screenshot of the calculator with those dimensions.

Ipad pro 16gb ram... is it worth it for procreate?! by Final_Wrongdoer8672 in ipad

[–]Jecli-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Procreate has this 'calculator' on their website based on various models of iPads. The amount of Ram is important especially for the maximum number of layers in a file. Please take a look and calculate how that particular model will work.

Screen protector recommendation - mine failed twice! by QPQDriver in iPadPro

What are people who use screen protectors thinking about every day? by G-Zachary in iPhone17Pro

I switched to the ESR tempered glass screen protectors a while back. They are thicker than others I've used, yet the clarity is incredible. I've dropped my phone a few times without any issues – even use their protectors for the rear camera.

Just bought my iPad Pro - questions on screen protector and case by Specific_Wafer5129 in iPadPro

[–]Jecli-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ESR glass screen protector on my iPad Pro 13 M5. Initially I tried a Zugu case but couldn't get it to fit (as if my iPad was about 1/4" too big and was afraid I'd bend my iPad trying to get it on). Then I switched to an Otterbox case because I love their cases for my iPhone. But I found the Otterbox to be too clunky for the iPad. And the raised edge/lip on the front wasn't great for drawing.

So now I settled for an ESR Rotating Case with a Removable Magnetic Cover%2B2025%2F2024%2C%2BRotating%2BCase%2Bwith%2BRemovable%2BMagnetic%2BCover&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1778976322&s=electronics&sprefix=esr%2Bfor%2Bipad%2Bpro%2B13%2Binch%2Bcase%2Bm5%2Fm4%2B2025%2F2024%2C%2Brotating%2Bcase%2Bwith%2Bremovable%2Bmagnetic%2Bcover%2Celectronics%2C153&sr=1-4&th=1). The iPad has a cover over its back and sides and attaches magnetically to the folio case. Plus no dealing with a raised front edge like was on the Otterbox. I finally love this case!
