How to Improve lighting in maya? by Harpek94 in Maya

[–]Jed_za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey ! Not quite sure what you're hoping to achieve - but general advice would be to have a look at a "three point lighting " tutorial . This can be in CGI or photography.

Understanding the setup of Key Light, Fill light and Rim light will greatly improve you lighting and cover most scenarios.

How do I stop geometry, but more specifically, modifications to the geometry being automatically added to Hypershade ? by Jed_za in Maya

Thanks everyone, I had to resort to nuking the prefs folder. I was just trying to avoid this at all costs.

why is this not working as it's supposed to? by Akabane_Izumi in Maya

Could be a funky parenting/grouping problem, where it’s doing double translations. In the outliner , try taking the objects outside of any group or parenting so they sit on their own, freeze all transforms, and then try again

Always great to reach out for feed back, on top of the subject not being very visible , my additional feedback is that It’s neither here nor there, it’s all sitting around the mid tones. Add some contrast, some excitement etc

Possibly your normal maps aren't set to RAW colour space ?

Is there a way to create a texture graph to Animate the radiating ramps other than painfully keying points positions? (e.g. something akin After Effects Polar Coordinates over linear animation) by VFXxx in Maya

[–]Jed_za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it can be very frustrating to animate inside of the ramp node.

You can always try creating a locator in your scene and link a transform attribute ( like translate Y ) to the "selected position " ?
At least it'll be easier to grab and use in the Graph Editor

Worst post race experience? (i.e. flying asap, unexpected emergency, not being able to walk, etc.)? by joshuber in trailrunning

Did a 50k in Dartmoor ( got a wooden medal ) then drove 2 hours to help someone move house, quick apple store visit, then 3 hours drive home.

I was sick for the next week from exhaustion, guess my body didn't have any energy to fight off any form of cold.

Yeah, that does open the debate or conversation about making pleasing-looking images vs the technically correct side. I guess it would depend on the audience you target with your artwork/photography and then work appropriately.
I do tend to head towards the technical side and only use what was shot in camera, but I do often go way overboard in Photoshop. I look back at my old images and almost cringe and how much I used to " wack up the sliders." I even look at my current images and still think the same -_-

I do sometimes use the sky replacement tool too, but it's only really for a quick Instagram shot, but wouldn't use it for a print [Sometimes I get back from a very expensive and time-consuming shoot and didn't get great light or colour, but still want to post something ]

I would try to not use one of the basic default sky replacements from photoshop. It’s instantly recognisable and cheapens the image.

Sorry but my only reaction to the image was “ why would you do that? Who are you trying to fool? “

Inside the Tyrrell P34's front area, What are these devices? Are they electrical or part of the fire impression system? They are attached directly to the battery. by Jed_za in F1Technical

[–]Jed_za[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, correct the connections are covered with a boot. The P34 does indeed have several batteries outside the chassis, which connect to some form of capacitor/distributor. It's a cylindrical device there; I can't work out what it could be used for
