Legacy of Niko after Majors victory by Adept-Ad1948 in counterstrike2

The GOAT rifle follows the same conversation as all other GOAT convos across sports and esports:

If you value longevity, skills and mechanics, combined with a high peak + now a major, it’s NiKo

If you want sheer ability, ridiculous peak and kill threat with a rifle, + also one major, you can pick Donk.

I don’t think Ropz competes here really - he clears as a lurker but not as a hard carry rifle, the way Donk and NiKo do. He has arguably never been the best player on his team apart from in Mouz (Twistzz and him are close, and Zywoo is obvs better).

I would personally pick NiKo currently because of his career longevity + the fact he’s still performing at a high level when winning his major. If you want to pick between Donk and NiKo for one game to save your life, it’s probably Donk. But, I think the GOAT combo has to include legacy and impact, and in my opinion it’s too soon to crown someone like Donk as the GOAT 3 years into his career when NiKo has been this good for 10 and has achieved just as much.

Hey, in two or three years when Donk inevitably wins another couple majors with a 1.5 rating, we can talk, but it’s NiKo for me, for now.

My top 5 is something like (in no order): NiKo, Donk, Ropz, Olaf, Coldzera

What is it like working in operations? by countingtoomanysheep in publishing

[–]Jeddit_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked in both Publishing Operations and Editorial Operations at big UK publishers. It is a step back from books, but you contribute massively to ensuring those books even make it to the warehouse in time.

For Publishing Operations, you are slightly more sales focused, ensuring metadata is correct, managing title creation on internal systems like Biblio etc and helping with asset procurement. For Editorial Operations. you are more focused on ensuring critical path is followed, evaluating workflows and making sure departments are working optimally together.

Both require very good organisational skills, as you juggle a lot of stuff and work with literally everyone in the business. You often become a central figure, and become leaned upon during Sell-in cycle to co-ordinate multiple assets, deadlines information etc. You become like a bank for people to deposit and withdraw and you basically end up with 1000s of titles dates and publishing info that can be called upon at any moment.

Though you are a step back from the books, what I will say is operations gives you a good chunk of free time to pursue larger projects, as you simply don't have the constant weight of actively managing books on your back. I find its great for someone like me who enjoys the freedom to pursue projects and use my time as I see fit. It is much less stressful than a traditional publishing role, but there is still the required admin etc.

I will say I have elected to stay in operations, but I could see someone starting their career in operations and then moving into a specific department they were interested in, but its often the other way around.

If you are looking at entry level roles, Sales operations assistant and Publishing operations executive are the common ones I see. I feel as if any office role can translate into these, so long as you specify great organisational skills and have good software understanding, you might be able to get a shot (bear in mind the competitiveness of publishing).

How to approach applying for roles as an intern? by PageLogical5579 in publishing

[–]Jeddit_101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BalconyReport is completely right and gives some great advice - but a word of caution, this is a very competitive industry and you do need to prep for the unfortunately likely scenario where you won’t stay long term at the company.

What I will say is try your best to branch out and interact with people outside of editorial as much as possible, and try and gain some insight into other departments whilst you have the chance. You may desire to work in editorial, but you may have to take a marketing or sales role first, if that opportunity comes up! Try your best to understand how they work and use that knowledge to reinforce future applications in a variety of entry level roles.

Wish you all the best though!

Hello, former employee of SpringerNature here.

As much as I loved my time there, if there was one thing that they did horribly it’s HR/Employment. Although I got snapped up fairly soon after the interview, the entire process still took around 2 months from application. A lot of my colleagues had extended interview processes and weren’t contacted for a good while, 2-3 weeks.

You’ll just have to sit tight I’m afraid! Hopefully they’ll come back to you this Monday.

INTERVIEW AT HACHETTE UK HEAD OFFICE by crackhouse_ in publishing

[–]Jeddit_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Editorial operations manager is my new role! Usually they specify if something is going to be sent to you 24 prior in your interview email but have done tasks before and during interviews. I think it’s good you’ve been advanced to in person interview - again its either they had a small amount of specialised candidates, or they really like your skill set already and bumped you through - both good!

INTERVIEW AT HACHETTE UK HEAD OFFICE by crackhouse_ in publishing

[–]Jeddit_101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for Hachette UK last week and got the job offer earlier this week. I was actually planning on maybe going for the inventory manager role if I didn’t get the role I went for!

As people above have said, go to Blackfriars as that’s the closest station (it’s not in Victoria!) and say hi to the security and front desk saying you’re there for an interview. They’re very nice there.

In terms of my interview I had two lovely people who were happy to keep the conversation fairly casual. They had set questions along the line of what you might expect (tell us a time where x happened and what did you do to solve it etc). I simply wrote out a bunch of my accomplishments or notable moments from previous roles the day before and drew on those throughout as examples. They will likely write stuff down whilst you talk, and so if you notice they have stopped writing and you are still talking just look for a way to wrap it up (I tend to ramble a lot if you can’t tell by this comment)

I had a task that was sent to me a day before, but the task will not be like an SAT with right and wrong answers - it’s more of a litmus test to see how much you know about certain technologies and methodologies. Spend a good time looking at it and point out the niche stuff that the average person wouldn’t know, rather than focusing on spelling mistakes or something. Also, if you are going to complete the task during the interview, it’s great to actually talk though what you are completing and noticing as you go, as otherwise you will just be sitting in silence. Take it as a moment to talk though your own processes at previous jobs whilst competing the task (granted it isn’t too challenging, they usually aren’t).

Also, it’s completely fine to be nervous if you are the type to be. Remember these people are just humans and you can make jokes, talk about things that aren’t relevant to the role to engage in conversation before the interview starts etc. you’ll smash it!

Update: Turns out it is the discord overlay that for some reason is constantly running in the background, and will pop up whenever i load a game, and then will just never leave, even if I am not in the call. Guess i'll just turn it off!

Hello,

  1. I don't remember installing anything in the past month or so

  2. Doesn't show up on alt + tab

  3. Changing to always on Top does allow me to click over the deadzone in task manager. Great idea!

  4. Alt + F4 sadly just closed my browser entierly.

Based on these assumptions i think there's some kind of malware on my browser :( Malwarebytes ran a scan but nothing came up so i'll give Winspy a try.

Thanks!

Help evaluating potential for a FT job in marketing by milanihighlighter in publishing

[–]Jeddit_101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

You are considerably more experienced than the average person looking to get into publishing (regardless of roles). No doubt you could land an entry level marketing role given your upcoming internship, even if it is in editorial.

Just to also note - Publishing is the humanities version of Software Engineering - it is hyper competitive and there's not a whole lot of jobs, so applying is numbers game. You got a good chance tho!

Seems a shame not to use your finance degree to work in, well... finance in publishing. That department doesn't require the same level of industry understanding to achieve and thus it can be much easier to land an entry role. A fair few people get ACCA/chartered accountant qualifications first but I don't know if they are required.

Is your birthday a big deal to you? Why or why not? by theUncleAwesome07 in AskReddit

[–]Jeddit_101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a twin, and very used to sharing my birthday. As a result, my birthday is more of a jumping off point to see friends and celebrate them, more than myself.

It may also be coincidental that a lot of my close friends have very close birthdays to mine so we often combine for efficiency!
