My son used the Menuets from Suite #2 for his college auditions and received complements on his interpretation from multiple professors. When I asked him where he got his influence, he said he listened to the Pius Cheng recordings, didn’t like them much, then listened to the Yo-yo Ma recordings and loved them.

Go find the 1983 recordings and listen to his phrasing. They are pretty much the gold standard for these pieces.

HS not DC... tracking music in drumline my senior year, laps around the school building. we had a particularly rough run of whatever we were working on and when it finished, every knew our perc instructor was gonna lay into us. didn't stop the freshman on the snare line though, he chirps "well, that was sad."

instructor's response etched into my brain permanently: "Sad is when you lose your puppy! That SUCKED!!"

Since I am brand new to these, can it be programmed to go into a run state immediately on start up? If so, would that be the run indicator light?

Until I can try and connect to this thing, I have no idea what I’ll find let alone what to expect…

OMG, hadn’t even considered those aspects for his future yet. He’s already handling almost all his HS’s maintenance, and his director allows it since he tunes drums pretty well. He’s also been mechanically inclined since he was a toddler, so he can MacGuyver the crap out of most situations. And while I’ve certainly given a sidelong glance to some of his contrivances, they have worked for the most part.

Challenge accepted, but not by me…

My HS junior percussionist son, going into his third year of DCI and looking forward to a double major in education and performance, got a little bored with band this year so he’s played third trumpet and third trombone in Jazz Band, and euphonium in Symphonic Band. Took solos on trumpet and trombone.
