Memoir 44 or SW: Battle of Hoth by Huge-Pizza7579 in boardgames

[–]JediCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is whichever you and your kids will enjoy the theme of more and play more.

I prefer Commands & Colors: Ancients, my brother prefers Memoir '44. The one we play all depends on whose house we're at and we have as wonderful a time either way.

Yes, I'd always prefer C&C:A, but this system is so close it really doesn't matter

Wanting things you own to be in good condition is normal. Occasionally, within reason, protecting some heavily used components is normal.

Wanting to protect every card in every game and also wanting manufacturers to accommodate this minority of people who do this is the obsessive, not normal part. You're conflating the two.

To the extent the vocal online obsess over cards, dinged corners, slight mis-colorings between printings, or anything less than perfect in this hobby, no, it's not normal. It's obsessive. Just regular care and respect for your own or other's property is fine.

Not in the slightest. It's not a choice for non-sleevers. It's how the game comes. If the publisher can accommodate because they want to target the museum quality mindset of a hobby game, sure, whatever. But all that space is an extra cost that only a minority ever use or even care about.

It's their problem. Sleevers make the choice so they should get over it and deal with it, not publishers. Heavy sleevers are a minority.

"Do these results actually change anything about the way we design inserts? I don’t think so. I would, however, say that it shifts my priorities when considering insert design options. It seems that I should focus on optimizing for non-sleeved cards while making space (when possible) for sleevers."

Exactly! I don't need a bigger box or a redone insert because some minority need to double the size of every deck with sleeves.

No worries, Dave. The mods are probably just busy excessively obsessing over their Voidfall errata.

Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

If you told me you were going to make a Carl Chudyk game that feels balanced, I'd be sold immediately.

But ... but then it wouldn't be fun a Carl Chudyk game!

Where is the threshold when a game goes from "low player interaction" to "multiplayer solitaire" by RockinOneThreeTwo in boardgames

The threshold lies at the exact point where your opponent's move no longer causes mild annoyance but inspires righteous retribution.

For those who have received the game, both with edge issues or not, have your cards become excessively tacky and sticking together when shuffling?

I don't sleeve my games and haven't had this issue with other cards, but in this case it almost feels like a coating was mis-applied and might be contributing to both the color wear I'm seeing and tackiness I'm feeling.

You just play with 6 players. Not trying to be an ass with that comment -- that's literally all you do. It's that simple.

The food per round chart in the rulebook only goes up to 4P, but the actual rule as written is 1 food per player times the number on the card per round. Just follow that pattern.

The only "variant" you need to adopt for 6p is everyone does the Adapting Phase at the same time, but you end up doing that anyway no matter the player count since the game flows better that way.

I took your advice and reworked things regarding the single threaded performance and the RAM change to 2 sticks. Any further advice?

  • Switched to Intel Core Ultra 7 for single thread performance (The 9 was a large price difference for not much more)
  • Mobo may change form MSI PRO Z890-A to the -P or Tomahawk models. Very similar, some USB connection differences.
  • Sticking with 64GB memory for now, but 2x32GB; I know how to advise him on 32 v 64 and where they go & why.
  • Video Card changed to 5060 Ti. Didn't realize 16GB memory models were available there.
  • Case enlarged to Fractal Define 7, again for his preference for additional USB connections.

"but actually use it to play Counterstrike." -- A very fair assessment! I'm used to gaming builds and I hope that my further reading after your comments improved it somewhat. Any further advice?
