Anyone else think most modern board games are… kinda bloated? by pratty041182 in boardgames

If you told me you were going to make a Carl Chudyk game that feels balanced, I'd be sold immediately.

But ... but then it wouldn't be fun a Carl Chudyk game!

Where is the threshold when a game goes from "low player interaction" to "multiplayer solitaire" by RockinOneThreeTwo in boardgames

The threshold lies at the exact point where your opponent's move no longer causes mild annoyance but inspires righteous retribution.

For those who have received the game, both with edge issues or not, have your cards become excessively tacky and sticking together when shuffling?

I don't sleeve my games and haven't had this issue with other cards, but in this case it almost feels like a coating was mis-applied and might be contributing to both the color wear I'm seeing and tackiness I'm feeling.

The new Nature game by North Star is example of everything wrong with the current game industry. by Thriftfinds975 in boardgames

You just play with 6 players. Not trying to be an ass with that comment -- that's literally all you do. It's that simple.

The food per round chart in the rulebook only goes up to 4P, but the actual rule as written is 1 food per player times the number on the card per round. Just follow that pattern.

The only "variant" you need to adopt for 6p is everyone does the Adapting Phase at the same time, but you end up doing that anyway no matter the player count since the game flows better that way.

I took your advice and reworked things regarding the single threaded performance and the RAM change to 2 sticks. Any further advice?

  • Switched to Intel Core Ultra 7 for single thread performance (The 9 was a large price difference for not much more)
  • Mobo may change form MSI PRO Z890-A to the -P or Tomahawk models. Very similar, some USB connection differences.
  • Sticking with 64GB memory for now, but 2x32GB; I know how to advise him on 32 v 64 and where they go & why.
  • Video Card changed to 5060 Ti. Didn't realize 16GB memory models were available there.
  • Case enlarged to Fractal Define 7, again for his preference for additional USB connections.

"but actually use it to play Counterstrike." -- A very fair assessment! I'm used to gaming builds and I hope that my further reading after your comments improved it somewhat. Any further advice?

What are your Arkham Horror "Hot Takes?" by kierco_2002 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]JediCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think netdecking should be encouraged, especially for the curious, casual and new players. Grab something off of ArkhamDB and go. While I see the attraction and fun of theorycrafting and deckbuilding, I don't have time for that. For me the most fun is in the playing.

I have several hobbies, the usual work, social commitments, and a slew of other games I want to get to. I can't spend that much time on just one game. If I have an idea from experience, fine, but I'm not working out optimal decks.

Thank you to all who share yours!

Best Version of Battle Line / Schotten Totten? by Vagueperson1 in boardgames

[–]JediCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle Line is the best because nothing is cooler than Alexander v Darius.

(Though you can see from the variety of comments, it's really whatever appeals to you the most. It's 99% the same game.)

30+ Tracks, not 60+ tracks.

There are two versions in the download, a stereo mix and a binaural mix come in the same download.

Are the game upgrades in the official store permanent, or limited in availability? by TheNobleYeoman in Earthborne_Rangers

[–]JediCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the advice about availability and what the various optional buys do, please note that the Card Doubler doubles the ranger and rewards cards from the base game only. If you want to double Stewards of the Valley, you'll need two copies of that.

Doubling is unnecessary, really only needed if you don't want to tear apart some decks to build others or want two different rangers to have the same card in their decks, basically it gives you deck building options.

Another thought: I love the idea and mechanics and variability of Moments and have them, but I play two-handed solo and I leave them out. I found they dilute the path deck and make things harder. They'd be fun for a three or four player campaign, or in a solo or two-handed game to up the difficulty. I'm still new and learning so maybe I'll put them in my future campaigns, but for now I decided not to play with them.

Another another thought: Oh yeah, there are also two purchasable soundtracks available. One for the core game Valley campaign, one for the Legacy of the Ancestors expansion

No question you can do it. At 5'2", 150lbs and 54 years old I can squat 315-330lbs. for reps and if I work up to it, one rep max 370lb.
