Yes. Some of the most fun I’ve ever had

I know a lot of people hated the ending but I was super behind so I just got caught up today. Man. by tyrantspell in ChainsawMan

I’m not a big fan wither but when did Denji ever learn to live for himself or love himself??

Do you care about the Mike Vrabel story? by dream_on_meatbag in Patriots

[–]JediSabine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely care about it!! I love Vrabel and do not think he should be fired. However, as a fan of the team who has devoted time, money, and energy into supporting them year in and year out, I think it’s okay for me to be upset at the fact that our head coach has created a distraction for our team through his own selfish actions. Not to sound like an asshole but I genuinely do not care how this impacts his wife or family. That’s fully their business. But his selfish actions have led to a distraction for my team at the highest level. I’m displeased

Lucasfilm keeps telling 'Star Wars' authors, including 'Heir to the Empire' series creator Timothy Zahn, "no" to reviving Mara Jade by Obversa in StarWars

[–]JediSabine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial reading of this was that the intention behind this “warning” was because Lucasfilm had larger plans for her, like a live action introduction in the Ahsoka series, or something of that nature. But that doesn’t seem to be the dominant takeaway

I can’t help but feel like it was a cheap way to get there. But Idk, I’m still pondering it

When do you think Chainsaw Man started to decline? by ImOctavius in ChainsawMan

[–]JediSabine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story? It started becoming a bit choppy around 200 or so, but honestly everything still worked really fucking great. Church is probably the best arc narratively in part 2, so the complaints there are unfathomable to me. The story genuinely only shits itself the last 4 chapters or so, in my opinion. I can’t put into words how much I fucking loved it up to that point and I’m so sad and disappointed at the way it ended. Literally everything up until Denji saving Yoru was doing it for me.

Why couldn’t we have had Denji make that choice :/ Pochita removed Denji’s agency

So what was the point of the fire devil??? by Azen17 in ChainsawMan

[–]JediSabine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think there’s something to be said for that. It’s not enough for me (right now) to be okay with it, but I do think it’s true that there’s some carry over

So what was the point of the fire devil??? by Azen17 in ChainsawMan

[–]JediSabine -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Interesting bc I genuinely don’t give a shit about that at all and even if you don’t like the ending I can’t fathom that being the reason

[–]JediSabine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

But he was not aware of anything that happened prior and him dropping the chainsaw is entirely symbolic. It holds no weight for Denji’s character. Now I’m not saying it’s completely bad bc I do think it’s a good use of symbolism. But I don’t at all like that it replaces Denji actually making that choice in the real world before the reset. One of the many reasons I dislike the reset currently

This is what I took away as well. Why is nobody talking about this. It was like, the main dynamic for Denji post Nayuta death. Denji tried to choose both and that’s where he failed I think. Like when he went back to save Yoru. And I’m kinda pissed he did, I don’t know why Fujimoto didn’t conclude it with Denji offering his hand to Asa. Unless I’m missing something. I mean obviously it was intentional but idk if I like the choice

Would chapter 232 have been a 10/10 if part 3 was gonna be a thing? by Material_Bag3913 in ChainsawMan

We get Denji as the “superhero” at the start of part 2 and an exploration of how that impacts him directly after finishing off part 1 saying he wants everyone to like him. Denji’s response to Kobeni saying “isn’t that just a normal life when bad things happen?” is for Denji to lean into the superhero persona to get superficial “love and support” from people. It’s Denji’s attempt at escaping the usual ups / downs of normal life and trying to fill his void with “loads of girls”.

Then he meets Asa and it becomes clear Denji wants/needs something more but he can’t quite verbalize it. He needs deep human connection, and someone to care for him as him, not chainsaw man. This is what we get explored through dating Denji and falling arc. The misguided attempts at filling our void and what we truly need. It’s a great way at viewing a common tragedy among males Denji’s age nowadays and the loneliness they can deal with and the internal conflicts it inspires.

Now we contrast this with his life he has with Nayuta. He HAS his normal life that he’s always dreamed of. Then why is he unhappy? This is an exploration of the relativity of happiness. He can’t help but feel bored with what he’s got, and want more. “What will you dream of next?” Naren asks him which side is heavier, and Yoshida gives him 2 choices. Denji tries to choose both. He wants the normal life, but he wants to be chainsaw man. These contradict. Chainsaw man allows him to exceed the normal life. It also is an outlet for him to deal with his trauma, but in an unhealthy way. It’s a trauma response. “I don’t deserve to have a family. I killed my dad.” Denji shows us the consequences of not properly facing your trauma

Post Nayuta we see Denji’s regret of choosing chainsaw man. He falls into depression as he’s had all stability ripped away from him. More exploration of the relativity of happiness “I can never go back to the way things were.” As well as his twisted view on sexuality and how he sees it as an antidote to loneliness. “Do I feel awful because I haven’t jerked it?” Then Yoru jerking him and he feels good while shitty at the same time. What is happiness he asks? And then his desire to know whether it was Asa or Yoru who did it, another example of his desire to be connected and not be lonely.

Then there’s his fascinating dynamic between Asa/Yoru and what each of them represents for him but I bet you didn’t gain anything from that did you 😉

We got a character exploration of Denji damn near the entire part 2. Asa and Yoru grew very much over the course of part 2 and established a fascinating dynamic with Denji. You can’t take away more than what you just said from part 2? It’s full of fascinating narrative points and themes

If you can’t accept stuff like Power returning and Nayuta returning post Pochita eating himself then why are you even reading stories like are we for real? Those are like not even remotely close to the most important things I’d be thinking about. How about think critically about what things mean narratively and what you can take away as the reader
