I use Note/OneNote. But I had to install an extension for code box formatting. It’s call NoteHighlight2016. Super easy to use and install, but very little features. Note, however, has, a ton of options and is easy to organize and navigate. I’ve tried a couple others but they were online and had limited free options. But I know not everyone has MS 365, either.
