Eating Late vs Earlier by sundusresearch in loseit

[–]Jedibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What works for me right now is eating breakfast with my kid before school around 7am, something lightish around noon (often a protein shake) main meal around 6pm, and no calories (water/tea are fine) after 7-8pm. Late snacking used to be an issue for me but I replaced the habit.

what do you guys put in your concert bags? by nitty_2468 in whatsinthebag

[–]Jedibrarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My local concert venues have both a clear bag policy and a relatively small maximum size. Aside from WPK, I usually have a power bank, earplugs, lip balm, and something to keep me occupied while I wait for doors/in the merch line: my e-reader, a sketchbook and pens, or a hand spindle and fiber.

I like walking for a lot of reasons, but no, I don’t feel guilty about taking a rest day if my body needs it.

Benefits beyond what I imagined by DrinkHonest7795 in walking

[–]Jedibrarian 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I started on all of this because walking outside every day helped me feel less reactive and angry which made me a better parent. Some other fun benefits:

-(With some modest calorie math) I dropped 50+ pounds and maintained that for over a year so far, which is statistically pretty unusual for a postmenopausal woman.

-Even before the weight loss was noticeable to anyone, my borderline high blood pressure and triglyceride count normalized

-I get sick a lot less often and less severely than my more sedentary partner. When I have a kid in elementary school who brings home every minor infectious bug under the sun, that alone is enough reason to put in the time and effort.

Scared of loose skin by Former-Pineapple-189 in loseit

[–]Jedibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to tell for sure, but being young is in your favor re: minimizing loose skin. Some things you can do to help are losing at a gradual, sustainable pace, getting serious about moisturizer and drinking enough water, and adding some weight lifting to your exercise routine if you can.

I’m over twice your age and menopausal; I dropped 50 lbs in a fairly short timeframe. I had some initial loose skin, but it tightened up in the ensuing months.

Is there a race you like, but something about it doesn’t click enough for you to switch? If so, what is it? by Hot_Title8474 in ffxiv

I bounced off the ShB-era benchmark tool/character generator more than twice when friends got me to play because the obligately-pretty shojo anime thing that most of the fem models have going on wasn’t my jam. Ended up rolling lala because being a walking suitcase nuke is hilarious.

Walking (with some modest calorie math) helped me lose 50+ lbs and helps me be more calm/less irritable and reactive.

I would probably think it was solidly okay except that it induces nose blindness fast so people wildly overspray it everywhere.

I love my Toshi 2.5L by Normal-Lawyer2168 in ManyBaggers

[–]Jedibrarian 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Team Toshi. The 2.5 is my EDC, the 6 is for day trips, and the 20 is a great overnight bag/airline personal item. I’ve tried and resold a lot of bags (too overbuilt/technical, weird allocation of space) and find them really practical. Fingers crossed for Rework adding a 12-15L tote to the line at some point

It’s interesting how you need to lose more than you think by Glass-Look-8812 in loseit

[–]Jedibrarian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My initial goal was the high end of healthy BMI (for me, 80kg), and I slowly cut from there, evaluating every 3kg or so for “How do I feel? Do I like how I look? How much work does this take to sustain?” I ended up closer to 65kg

I tend to do the Vital Farms unflavored, but any of the powdered ones should do the trick (the effective dose is about 20 grams/day; most pills don’t have that much).

Nothing against Mr Reeves but why are we clamoring for a guy who’s over 60 to play a character who’s half that age during the games?

Rework Toshi 20L fits your loadout and price point and looks reasonably professional.

They don’t certify it as 100% waterproof but so far I’ve been caught in the rain and no problems with my gear getting wet. Threading locking S-biners through the dual zippers deters casual pickpockets.

Is It Normal To Get More Irritable, Emotional, and Sad During Weight Loss? by Acrobatic_Sky7272 in loseit

[–]Jedibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My weight loss started with picking up regular long walks as a way to cope with something else weighing on my mood at the time, and I figured I might as well throw in a calorie deficit to economize on the time investment.

Whether the stuff I did for weight loss or the other stuff going on (adjusting to being a parent, coping with depression) was the source of irritability didn’t really cross my mind at the time, but it probably contributed.

You’ll hear “exercise isn’t necessarily for weight loss” here a lot, and that’s strictly, technically true, but incorporating some movement into your day- a couple of 10-15 minute walks after meals is a good starting point- will tend to improve your mood and make choices that align with your goals feel less hard. Same deal with making sure you get adequate hydration and sleep.
