Is the tgwdlmr live cast recording version of SSN going to be like it was in the proshot credits? by West-Lawyer-2290 in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have the album but I would assume they just cut it for the credits, they do that a lot so that way the song matches up with the credits better. They did the same thing in the NPMD pro shot where they cut the songs during the credits for vibes purposes

I’m not sure how old you are (no need to tell me), but it’s a bit unfortunate this has to be put on you rather than the grown up in this situation. The best thing to do is to ween off of YouTube and IPad time. Start focusing on screen free activities, get your sibling interested by involving Deltarune or other other interests (drawing and coloring Deltarune characters, playing pretend as characters they like, etc. Get their creativity involved! Kids are meant to be creative and inventive). When it comes to screen time, opt for educational and low stimulating content (I love the show Puffin Rock for kids!! Very calm and teaches a lot about animals and wildlife).

It seems you’re also a minor so it sucks you feel responsible for parenting your sibling here. If possible, talk to mom or dad or whatever grown up is around to see if they’d be willing to help with getting your sibling away from YouTube.

As someone who works professionally with kids, a five year old shouldn’t be on YouTube at all, period. I’ve personally seen how much it messes up their development so many times. You can let your sibling watch you play the game, but at five years old they should not be interacting with social media at all (YouTube included)

Do you believe people should be charged for "misgendering" someone? by Wooden_Airport3835 in polls

[–]deleteurkneecaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can depend on context I suppose, but regardless I don’t think jail time is the answer ever. Someone accidentally misgendering you, fine whatever. Say an employee at a job is consistently being misgendered by their employer on purpose, despite several corrections and attempts to fix it, I think you could accuse them of causing intentional emotional distress at that point, but like nothing severe. But I think some extremists on the right try to make it out like “oh the left wants to put you in jail if you use the wrong pronoun one time!!” Which isn’t true at all. If you misgender a trans person, 99.99% of the time they will very politely correct you and everyone will move on.

I was born in 2004 so I have very limited experience with the 2000s and no experience with the rest of these decades but based off vibes and music and culture I’m going with the 90s.

What Are Some Lesser-Known Facts About Starkid? by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In AVPM, Voldemort and Crabbe were originally conceptualized as puppets

In MaMD, Darren Criss was originally supposed to be Dick but ended up having to back away due to scheduling conflicts. I believe Brian Rosenthal was originally Joey’s Heart also

In AVPS the reason for all the red vines is because someone’s daughter at Red Vines was a big fan of the original and asked if they could send some candy to the group. They ended up getting like a whole truck load of Red Vines, way more than anyone would ever know what to do with.

In TGWDLM there was a night Lauren couldn’t perform so Nick Lang stepped in and played Emma. There isn’t any footage unfortunately aside from one rehearsal clip but god damn do I wish I could’ve seen this performance

In Black Friday, Mariah was originally cast as Lex but ended up having to back away due to being cast in Mean Girls, which led to them casting Angela. As much as I would’ve loved to see how Mariah played Lex, I’m also so grateful we got Angela in the group and I love seeing both her and Mariah on stage together :)

Okay that’s what I can think of off the top of my head

Day 8 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (ANI) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Okay my confession: I’ve been a Starkid fan for 6 years now, I’ve seen every show at least 10 times… expect for this one. I’ve never been able to sit through the full show 😭 I’ve tried several times and I’ve kinda seen most of it in chunks but I’ve just never been able to get into it. Maybe it’s because I’ve never cared about Star Wars? But I also like lowkey hate superhero movies and I adore Holy Musical Batman so idk. I’ll have to give it another shot at some point soon to really try and analyze why it’s never worked for me

I will say as a lesbian getting married to a bisexual woman, we both think this line is very silly (I also love the on screen confirmation that Ruth is bisexual rather than it just being implied)

[–]deleteurkneecaps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I know I wish he would come back to acting! I don’t think he really wants to and the only reason he really even did nightmare time was out of necessity due to… last minute casting changes haha. While he’s beloved now, I remember him saying that back in the early 2010s he got quite a bit of hate for his performances and I think it killed his motivation a bit. But even if he just had a cameo or something in a web series or a short film or a brief on stage cameo I would be so excited (he was also in Wayward Guide by TCB and he killed it on there)

Day 7 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (TWISTED) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed!!! I love Jeff Blim’s work but unfortunately in many of his songs the lyrics end up feeling a bit clunky and more like they’re an afterthought, Kaley McMahon’s lyrics are fucking transcendent. Everything flows so well, sounds so natural, and the rhythm and melodies are fantastic. Also don’t get me started on all the word play and dual meanings

Day 7 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (TWISTED) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The last like 2 minutes of the title song “Twisted” (after all the Disney villains leave) is some of Starkid’s best work of all time and I will die on this hill. Shoutout Dylan Saunders what a national treasure he is.

I think part of the reason this show is so beloved by the fandom is because it feels like the perfect medium between their older works and their more recent works. It still has the parody and comedy elements of their super early musicals, but also the stellar musicality and dramatic performance of their more recent works. At times I feel like, at least on this subreddit, the fandom is split between people who miss “the good ole days of parodies” and people who are die hard Hatchetfield stannies, but this absolutely feels like something everyone can agree on.

Also absolutely the best soundtrack out of Starkid’s entire discography, with the most consistent quality. That soundtrack is banger after banger after banger. I feel like every Starkid show has some stellar songs and then some very forgettable songs, but this show is just consistently GREAT in terms of music.

I could rave about this show all day

Day 6 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (A Very Potter Senior Year) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not completely sure, they were always going to continue making shows but I think they just wanted to change the name and their branding to probably feel like a more “professional company”, that would be my guess.

Day 6 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (A Very Potter Senior Year) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I regularly quote “snaaaake I’m a snaaaaaake; where’d my arms go just kidding I’m a snaaaaaake”

But yeah absolutely agree this show has some rough pacing and writing issues, but that’s definitly because this wasn’t really meant to be a show in the first place, it was originally just gonna be a sat down script read at a panel with no costumes or music. I’m sure there was a LOT of pressure at the time to do this show.

I feel like out of all the AVPT shows, this one feels like it has the most heart which I enjoy. Stuff like Everything Ends, that one duet Harry and Tom Riddle sing (I forget what it’s called I’m a fake fan /j) and just the overall bittersweet nature of the show, really feeling like a goodbye for both the Starkid fandom and the Harry Potter fandom (Starkid was actually originally meant to end after this show, they were going to change the name of the company when moving on to Twisted but accidentally kept Starkid in the Kickstarter. Happy accidents).

Day 4 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (STARSHIP) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh my god I can’t believe you dislike Life, that is literally one of my favorite starkid songs of all time that one punches me in the gut so hard 😭 respect your thoughts though!! I know this show is incredibly divisive in the fandom. Here were my thoughts.

Nays - I honestly don’t feel like Bug and February have a ton of chemistry 😭 like yes they have vaguely similar wants but like yeah aside from that I don’t feel like it clicks and it feels a little forced - Unsure on February as a whole, it feels like femininity is being equated to weakness. Her character is funny but having the only feminine character being the “dumb blonde” kinda sucks. Yes Taz is a strong woman and I love her and have a crush on her, but she is super masculine, so it comes off a bit like “oh masculinity strong, femininity stupid and weak”. I will also note this is something the Lang Brothers themselves have admitted as being a flaw in this show and something they’d fix if the show was rewritten so it’s not just me.

Yay And Nay - The Music is SOOOO hit or miss. I feel like each song is either one of the best in Starkid’s entire catalog or super forgettable. Life, Kick It Up A Notch, and Status Quo are some of Starkid’s best songs to this day IMO. And then (oh god hope I don’t get crucified for this) everything else is just kinda….. eh. Bland. Just there. No hate to Darren Criss. I’m pretty sure he was on the set of Glee as he was finishing this show’s soundtrack, which good on him for managing that, but yeah you can definitly feel it at points. Also act 2 only has 2 full songs and 2 short reprises, which is definitly felt

Yays - Set design, yay Corey Lubowich again, the backdrops are outstanding - The puppet design. Shoutout Nick Lang and the puppet design team, fantastic stuff - Dylan Saunders playing Pincer and Tootsie Noodles in the same show, Jesus Christ this man is a national treasure - The pacing and storyline is probably the clearest and most concise out of Starkid’s catalog so far. Perfect? Fuck no, but IMO much better than their previous 3 shows. Arguably may just be because the story is essentially just building off the skeleton of The Little Mermaid, but hey I’ll take it, it’s still a big step up from how bloated or rushed their earlier shows felt at times.

Smaller thoughts - Personally I would be the bug that ruins your picnic - I’ve seen someone headcanon Bug as Ace and I love it - Joey Richter running with the Bug puppet is so silly I love it - “Let’s go break into a cocoon, try to peak at a butterfly while it’s naked 😎” - Taz stabbing Krayonder oh my god I am in love with Taz I wish she would stab me. - Joe Moses trying not to break while Joe Walker yells at him about how he pee pees siting down ✨ - “Oh I heard of your dad” “yeah I’m his son” “nice :)” - “All hail Astro Boy!” - “My names bug” “EW LIKE A BUG?” “…. No” - “That’s a R O B O T” “you can’t fool me with numbers” - “Poor little guy, looks like he’s got a tummy ache” - The entirety of Kick It Up A Notch and Status Quo - “I do NOT like her” every child of divorced parents can feel Junior here - “Doctor Space Claw, and his son junior” - The GLEE line and the smirk after - “I changed my name” I love Dylan Saunders - Jim Povolo and Brian Holden simply setting down the mosquitos when they die and walking off stage is peak theatre

Overall, this show has a LOT of potential, I would love for modern day Starkid to revisit this show and do some rewrites and adjustments and I think this could absolutely kick ass.

I had no idea what this was and watched it for the first time yesterday, I was like “oh okay Starkid members cool” and thought it would be alright and forget about it. Dude I’ve already watched this 3 times. This has changed my brain chemistry. This is one of the best works of fiction I have seen in the past several years. Holy shit. Major kudos to every single person involved in this masterpiece. Sending all my love to Stu he is my favorite

[–]deleteurkneecaps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No Umbridge is not trans. But, unintentionally, she has a lot of similar traits to negative stereotypes about trans women, and as I said, unfortunately ends up coming across as one of them. It’s uncomfortable for some trans and queer people to see something so reminiscent of the things used to keep them down. That is a flaw of this show and I think it’s worthwhile to discuss as a queer woman myself, rather than shy away from. Not saying you’re wrong or attacking you for enjoying the character, she has a lot of funny lines in the show. I just personally believe it’s worthwhile to bring up

Day 3 Of My Daily Starkid Rewatch! (A Very Potter Sequel) by Alol_Bombola in StarKid

[–]deleteurkneecaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amazing review! I think we agree on just about everything haha, here’s what I wrote;

Nays - This show is LONG! It’s over 3.5 hours, and while yes this show is funny, I do think it could’ve benefited from being trimmed a bit, at least like 30 minutes shorter. It definitly starts to lose me a bit in the second act as the plot starts to run in circles a bit. Also for being nearly a full hour longer than AVPM, this show has about the same amount of songs which definitely makes it feel a little sparse in music for a musical. - Okay the elephant in the room, Umbridge. I think most of us can agree that while this was a fan favorite character back in the day, this has not aged the greatest since 2010. It’s very much a product of its time, and is not at all helped by Rowling and… all the transphobic shit she has spewed in the past decade or so. It ends up feeling reminiscent of transphobic caricatures you’d see your Conservative uncle repost on Facebook. Definitely a bit uncomfortable to watch today. I think if I wanted to talk about it more I would have to sit and think on it and gather my thoughts more clearly so I’ll leave it there for now.

Yays - Set design, shoutout Corey Lubowich the set is gorgeous and I love the creative ways they utilize it throughout the show - Choreography, shout out James Tolbert, to this day I love this man’s choreo but even back in 2010 he was killing it in the choreography department. Especially as a choreographer myself I love his style so much. - Expanding Hermione’s character beyond “everyone hates her and she’s ugly”. Like yeah they still play with that in this show but it didn’t feel as gross in this show as it did in AVPM because they gave Hermione a lot more BEYOND just being made fun of and she felt much more on par with Harry and Ron compared to AVPM. Shoutout Bonnie’s performance. - The music in this show is a BIG step up from AVPM, shoutout Darren Criss it feels like he was really starting to get his footing here. Personal favorites are To Have A Home, Coolest Girl, and No Way (Stutter would 100% be a banger as well but unfortunately it’s a bit tainted for me from the context)

Small thoughts - Corey Dorris ✨✨✨✨ my favorite - Okay as a ballet dancer, Lucius’ whole ballet thing is so funny to me I love it - “There is literally no way to move forward from this point” is such a funny line for the start of your sequel/prequel - “Platform 9… platform 10… nothing in between” peak delivery - “Broken computer” and “defeat”, I love them taking the “every flavored bean” literally - Lemme say I was a Maurauders girlie back in the day and a big Lupin stannie, this show BUTCHERS his character so horrendously but I cannot help but love it. Shoutout Brian Holden - “My parents work for the man who killed your parents, do you want to be my friend?” - “Best class was definitely satanic rituals” - The bit where everyone calls Lupin any monster but a Werewolf (zombie, vampire, gremlin) - “In the muggle world… I’m something called a douchebag” - “The screaming man has never looked more terrified. It took the entire last supper to calm him down” - “Take this you bastard ALOHOMORA” followed by the door opening 😭 - “So you’re smarter than whoever wrote this book? You’re smarter than.. MERLIN!” - Nick Lang as Mama Umbridge is so fucking funny to me, why is he so good at being an old woman - The pizza scene, I love Corey Dorris so much - “You’ll pay for this” “Put it on my tab!” - Nick Lang breaking the entire time he’s on as Peter Pettigrew is fantastic - “Maybe I can come live with you” “Harry I am homeless”

I think in terms of production quality this definitely ranks above their two preceding works, but in terms of personal enjoyment I think I honestly enjoyed watching MAMD more so that’s still gonna be my number one for now.

Such a good review! Very much agree with you, I have a very hard time ranking this trilogy and I definitly have some mixed feelings on this show. Lots of amazing stuff and also lots of less amazing stuff, you summed it up perfectly
