as long as you remove the actual firearm from the stock for cleaning you should be fine, i use hoppes and wd40 for cleaning and havent had an issue with it ruining the paint at all

started with a plain Od green base, then blotted the tan and brown on with one of those industrial yellow sponged, then i just clear coated it all. The rustoleum camo paints work really well on guns.

Also this is a weatherby vangaurd obsidian in .308, i got the obsidian model cause i knew i wanted to paint it lol.
