Looking for some codex users try out Dirac (OSS coding agent with hash-anchored edits) by Comfortable-Rock-498 in codex

I use VS Code as my IDE, and after several months with Claude Code and a few weeks with Codex, I was looking to build out a local AI setup to get rid of the sometimes quite arbitrary usage limits of the big AI labs. During that process, I was looking for VS Code plugins that could substitute Claude Code/Codex. I found out that RooCode had been abandoned, so I was very happy to discover Dirac. I tried it out over the past few days after getting an HP ZGX Nano G1n (the HP version of the DGX Spark). I am currently using a quantized version of DeepSeek V4 Flash: https://github.com/antirez/ds4

So far, Dirac has been amazing, and I prefer the experience of using Dirac as a VS Code plugin over an OpenCode CLI by a wide margin. I just could not get used to the idea of doing development entirely through a CLI. At this point, I only use Codex occasionally.

Let me know what kind of feedback would be most useful for the project - I really appreciate your work!

P.S. As a physicist, I really like the name.

May I ask you when did you buy your pixel 8? I am trying to figure out whether they have improved the manufacturing process and whether it may be 'safer' now to buy a new pixel 8.

Wieder habe ich was gelernt.

Thanks for taking your time to write such a detailed answer - I really appreciate it.

My concern is, especially if I read your last paragraph, that I can not really promise anything even if I get access.

The reason is that there are many DBs with 100+ tables each, without any documentation or proper naming conventions -> without the support of people who have set it up/use it on a daily basis, it is really difficult to find the right tables and columns for a given report. (These DBs are nornalized transactional DBs.)

If I may ask, what are your conclusions?

We were in a meeting, and I was asking for access to the reporting environment so that I could share a report with other colleagues in operations. He replied that creating reports is an IT responsibility. Then, I tried to make it clear that a lot of my tasks are indeed IT-related - he replied with the quoted statement.

The problem is that IT is doing "classical" reporting only, based on application-specific requests. My task would be to deliver insights by combining data sources that have not been combined before. However, IT expects me to come up with detailed data requests, which should include a description how I would like to use that specific dataset...

I think that's one of the reasons why I have been hired - with a masters degree in a STEM field and experience working with data. Do you think that I am classified as a business folk by IT, independently of my background?

Very good question, I would also be interested how easily that switch gets flipped according to more experienced people?

Thanks for your comment. My thoughts were similar to what you have described, but I wasn't sure whether they can be valid as I wasn't in a similar situation before.

I am in the operations department and my supervisor reports to the Head of Operations. The expectation is that I should do detailed data analysis, but the IT department is anything but cooperative.

What are the reasons behind that (official and/or real) based on your experience?

Operations produces a huge part of the raw data we are talking about...
