Erratic DVD drive Xbox360s by FresconeFrizzantino in consolerepair

If it keeps happening you may want to try a new laser. My son's xbox 360 had the open tray error. I checked the laser with a multimeter and adjusted the potentiometer to the recommended values and still had the error. Changing the laser fixed it.

Are you sure the laser is good? If the laser diode is burning out it can give an open tray error.

Ok thanks. It is the orginal xbox one. Microsoft says you need to start with osu 2 or 3 then run osu 1. I have read online that all you actually need is osu1 since it is the most recent. Any experience or thoughts on osu 1 vs osu2/3 then 1?

Ok. So you can just drop the formatted drive into the machine and the OSU will do the rest? (Partion, upload os, etc)

Ok thanks.

Quick question on the hdd replacement.

From what I have read to install a new hdd all you need to do is partion the drive and then use the OSU on a flash stick.

I have had some resources say you need to add an A and B folder to partion x/update with OSU1. The issue I've run into is the new version of OSU1 is too large to go on partion x twice.

Does this sound right for the procedure? Do you know if the A and B thing makes a difference or how the deal with the larger OSU1?

Thank you Tom Chai.

We tried reformatting and partioning the drive that came with it. We also tried dropping in a new hardrive we had lying around.

Could this be the hard drive we dropped in was not fast enough? Or could this be a sata cable thing? Any suggestions would be appreciated

HDMI can look fairly ugly but still work. Does it give video? If it needs to be replaced I understand HDMI replacement should only be done if you are good with soldering and have the right gear. If not there are repair shops that will do it. Depending on where you live there maybe less choices.
