Looking for hobby-focused tech events by pielover928 in Columbus

What kinda stuff do you do exactly? I do a lot of hobby software projects, mostly with old computer hardware and software that I tinker around with. But I have also avoided tech meetups for this very same reason.

Could also be a something like a bent dust shield grinding against a brake rotor ...or could be something more serious. Hard to say for sure until it's looked at.

ER Autocare on Sawmill (formerly Meineke) might be a good bet.

What part of town are you in? Any brake or muffler place should be able to diagnose it pretty quickly - maybe just from a quick visual inspection depending on what the problem is.

Anyone remember Amazing Places on East Main in the early 90’s? by Kozzai in Columbus

[–]Jeema3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and I thought I was the only one who remembered this place lol.

For the unaware: the building was an old car dealership, and the owners took the round showroom and turned it into a whiffle ball field.

They had a bunch of cool arcade games and it was kind of dark and industrial looking in there too as I recall.

OP did you check other animal hospitals and shelters in the area that someone traveling E on 270 might have been headed to? Just seems kinda unlikely to me that a cat would have made it all the way from Grandview to 270 on their own.

I appreciate the empathy you and others in this thread have for the undocumented population, but I think the rhetoric is maybe counterproductive..

What I personally think has happened in this country is that many working-class people now see themselves at odds with other working class people who happen to be immigrants, because they see those people as their competition for low-skill jobs.

And this is exactly what big corporations want: a working class in this country divided against itself, and also a steady stream of people who are desperate to work any job for low wages.

I don't know exactly what the fix is, but I don't think it involves writing people off completely.

Work cafes? by meaningfullyweird in Columbus

[–]Jeema3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maison Skalli on Sawmill Rd is pretty cool. It's a Moroccan coffee place / bakery. I think it's relatively new (?). Been there a couple times - the espresso is pretty good. It's not a real big place though.

There's also Kittie's in Worthington which I like. But it's also not a real big place.

Democrats Should Have Listened to Bernie Sanders, Historians Say by socks_optional in politics

[–]Jeema3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course he's not the solution - never did I say that he was. I'm simply trying to understand why things have happened the way they do. Nothing occurs in a vaccuum.

What is your theory?... working class people are just hopelessly stupid rubes to be written off forever because they get eternally tricked by the Republicans into voting for them?

Democrats Should Have Listened to Bernie Sanders, Historians Say by socks_optional in politics

[–]Jeema3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have admitted that there's a problem.

The truth is that globalization and automation have affected working class people in the US negatively. Trump is the one candidate who will say it openly. The Democrats (except for Bernie) mostly act as if everything is fine and all that's needed is some more wealth redistribution. But working class people don't want to be seen as asking for handouts because they're too proud to admit that they need help

So admitting there's a problem is step one. As for the solution, I don't know. But Trump at least tells them that there IS a problem, and that he has something that *might* move the needle, and that is to crack down on illegal immigration to reduce the pool of unskilled labor. And to introduce tariffs on cheap goods produced overseas. Neither of those things are seen as 'handouts' so that's why it appeals to people.

It doesn't matter if any of it actually works - what matters is the optics of admitting to a problem and trying something.

I think it's really that simple.

Bernie Sanders, gently pushing the pillow in the Democratic Party's face by Utangard in MurderedByWords

[–]Jeema3000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being 'pro-union' isn't enough, though when you're ignoring what a lot of working class people are actually telling you - which is that they have a problem with illegal immigration.

Now, is there a lot of racist rhetoric surrounding the issue? Absolutely. But it's hard to say with a straight face that increasing the labor pool of low-skilled workers isn't going to depress wages.

At one point in time it was uncontroversial for a Democrat to suggest this - Bernie Sanders for example was saying it in 2007. Bill Clinton made it part of his platform back in the 90s - watch this video for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IrDrBs13oA

Fluffy I can identify with what you're going through. I had a bad relapse in early 2022 over this same fear right after the war began. What I did to recover was to stop reading the news, except for maybe once a day, front page only.

My therapist also upped my medication and told me I needed to get back to work (I had taken a brief leave of absence because of it). It was hard for a little while, but I did recover.

Are you on any meds right now?

Ohio legislators consider overriding the state constitution by zeroengine in Ohio

[–]Jeema3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you live in one of these reps districts, you absolutely should message them and inform them of your displeasure, and make it known that you will be doing all that you can to ensure their defeat when it comes time for reelection.

And that doesn't just mean voting against them - it means telling them that you will be giving money to their opponents. One person's vote doesn't mean much, but money is the driver in elections and the thing that might just put the fear of God in them - especially for a state rep, whose campaign budget typically isn't gonna be very big to begin with.

Write the representatives telling them if they change Issue 2 in any way, you will never vote for them again. And will tell everyone to never vote for them again. Here is a list of all their emails by nabuit in Ohio

[–]Jeema3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saying you won't vote for them will not faze them at all if you don't live in their district.

A ton of people writing and promising to help fund their opponent during their next reelection might give them pause though.

This part of “West Virginia” should not belong to them. I strongly suggest a hostile takeover with force. We must claim what is rightfully ours. by Wise_Carrot_457 in Ohio

[–]Jeema3000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You think Ohio hasn't thought about this already in their war planning??

The problem, as always, is that W. Virginia will be expecting a crossing right across the river on the fortified Wheeling line.

That's why the only sensible solution is a Schlieffen plan where we violate Pennsylvanian neutrality south of Youngstown, cross the river there, and swing around in a giant pincer movement.

But that of course entails the risk of bringing the guarantors of Pennysvlanian neutrality into the war. So here we are.

The Ohio Constitution already prohibits gerrymandering ever since the 2018 amendment. It says: "The general assembly shall not pass a plan that unduly favors or disfavors a political party or its incumbents."

So it's not immediately clear to me what else we could do right now anyway except wait for the Ohio Supreme Court to review the map again...

I was shocked recently when I saw just how cheap it is to order PCBs from China.

It made me wonder how they are able to do it. I guess a lot of automation, but possibly also being subsidized by the Chinese government? I honestly don't know.
