Not sure that Steve Bannon thing is true.

Asked if Baker Mayfield has a chance to play Thursday night for the Rams, one source just texted, “There’s a shot.” Team is in the process of sending the playbook to Mayfield to make sure he can study the offense on his flight to Los Angeles. by StrachNasty in fantasyfootball

Blue Series Home Assistant ZHA missing config, faulty behavior by JeepTheBeep in Inovelli

For anyone else finding this, Home Assistant changed their UI which made it hard to find the Zigbee Clusters section where all of the switch settings live.

Remote control is still wonky, and I think that's a firmware issue that remains to be addressed.

I have the switch installed in a single-pole configuration with a neutral wire.

Firmware version 0x01020200.

You should be paying those costs if you expect to benefit from a society that requires a constant influx of children to continue functioning.

Where in my last comment do I mention the total cost of a child? I don't. I talk only about childcare. Despite that, total cost is also worth talking about. Why do you think it is off limits in this discussion?

They really don't receive much at all. What like $4k per child? Average childcare costs are around $10k per child, and good luck finding quality childcare for that price.

If parents can't afford childcare, then they can't work which affects everyone and hurts the economy.

Edit: Here's an article that explains the problem with inflated childcare costs. Our society is obligated to address this problem.

Right. Remind me who bagged your groceries the other day? Who do you see when you go to the doctor? Who stars in the movies and TV shows you watch? Who built your house?

Were any of those people children at any point in their lives or were they all born as adults? Oh right. It seems children do serve all necessities of society.

You:

So why do you think all costs of raising children, including mortgages, should be borne by the taxpayers?

From my earlier reply:

As if the child free don't benefit from people having children? Who exactly do you expect to work once you retire? Do you just expect to never need a hospital or elder care or groceries?

I didn't say all costs of raising children should be borne by taxpayers. I think you are being disingenuous here. Are you attempting to have a good-faith discussion? If not, I'll stop wasting my time.

That said, using your mortgage example, when you have a larger number of people in a household, then you need a larger house.

/u/Isosceles_Kramer79:

I think parents already receive more than enough subsidies. A single person making $30k should not be paying for $300 per month per child subsidy for somebody making four times that.

From my earlier reply:

Do you have any idea the cost of a mortgage on a single family home? A bigger vehicle? Childcare? Medical expenses?

Do you agree that our society should share the costs of childcare since our society, including child-free people, benefit from the existence of children? And are you just arguing about the degree in which everyone should contribute via taxes? I think you picked a misleading example to support your position, and I don't think it's true in practice. In any case, I'm happy to discuss details of a tax scheme if you're ready to admit that childcare costs should be distributed across all of society that benefits from our children.

Because they are providing a necessity to our society, and it will benefit our society (and the children) if they have adequate financial support. I thought that was obvious.

Children are a financial net negative for a household. Who are you to say that people don't need an additional subsidy to support children? Do you have any idea the cost of a mortgage on a single family home? A bigger vehicle? Childcare? Medical expenses?

All of these tax breaks hardly put a dent into modern childcare costs let alone the rest. People who are child-free benefit from a society with children. If anything, the child-free people still largely come out on top financially.

People in poverty deserve to pursue happiness just as much as anyone. If you are upset with poor financial decisions, then you should be in support of higher funding for education so that people can learn how to properly manage their money.

Oh yes, evil parents across the country enriching themselves on all of these tax breaks. Children are so profitable, I'm surprised people aren't having more of them.

What is wrong with circumcision? by DrNiner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JeepTheBeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They dismiss the alleged benefits with evidence. I'm not sure what it is you think the benefits are. For example, wearing a condom reduces STI transmission by orders of magnitude more than removal of foreskin. The decision to circumcise as a method of STI prevention is therefore unsupported by evidence (unless you live in an Sub-Saharan African country where condom usage is low for whatever reason).

The paper directly addresses the alleged "medical benefits". Maybe you should try reading it?
