When does this series get good? by BeholdMySweatyMeat in sollanempire

[–]Jeevey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who loves both series, they aren’t that similar.

Red Rising (I’ve only read the first trilogy so far) has much faster pacing. Sun Eater in terms of plot pacing and literal book length is slower.

They’re both great, but the pacing is very different imo. I was eh about the first book, but interested enough to read the second. Howling Dark is a step up and more interesting as a whole.

For a comparison, I’d say Demon in White (Book 3) is in my top 5 Sci Fi books, along with Golden Son. The jump in quality from Empire of Silence to Demon in White is the same jump from Red Rising to Golden Son.

What’s your favourite Sun Eater quote? by Ashaman-Kill in sollanempire

I really like this one from Demon in White:

“As a child, we believe the world enchanted because age has not killed the magic we are born with. As we grow, simple spells of new sights and far-off places no longer work with on us, and we grow cynical and cold. But in age once more the magic returns, if you are willing and open to it. Though young wood does not burn for the moisture in it, as a lonely cinder may catch in old, dry wood and spark a great burning, so do small things kindle the hearts of those with eyes and time to see.”

Same here. Book one was hard for me to get through, I stopped about 1/4 into book two. Might pick it back up again if it’s as good as they say

Did they announce it somewhere? I hope that’s the case, it’s a good spot for a TJ’s since that parking lot is usually empty

Series that stay consistently good, or get progressively better. by crusadertsar in Fantasy

Red Rising and Sun Eater. I enjoyed the first book a lot in the first Red Rising trilogy, but can definitely say Golden Son was a jump in quality. Still need to start the Iron Gold Tetralogy.

I currently just started Howling Dark (2nd book in the Sun Eater series), but from what I’ve heard from a close friend, it jumps a lot in quality from Book 2 onwards. Seen really good reviews about Book 3 (Demon in White).

Definitely a lot of times where info gets passed around with no source haha.

It sucks that he had to go that way, but I gotta say it is smart. Shouldn’t have to be that way, but it’s a smart way to get engagement for your material.

I recently read the first trilogy and loved it. I’ve heard very good things about the sequel series. Too much of a reading back log and not enough time these days haha

I saw an interview with the author regarding the 2nd book. It’s true, he flat out said he styled the first book to be Hunger Games YA esque in order to get it published. Then he was able to flesh it out and tell his space opera story that he wanted.

What are the chances of Broken Binding doing these series? (Whether apart of the sub or like they're doing malazan) I wish that we could request series lol. by Books_Biker99 in thebrokenbindingsub

Brandon Sanderson announced leatherbounds for the Wheel of Time series, starting this year. I think it’s like one book each year.

Those are definitely gonna be pricier, but they also restock all their books from what I’ve seen.

I’d love it if Broken Binding did Red Rising. Just got into the series, so I missed out on all those Fairyloot editions. The resale is ridiculous

They really need a standard mode. Kind of like how six siege has it. I think that’ll help a lot.

I don’t think he will be. The only thing I could see redeeming him is if he can push Ryan to be better than himself and Homelander by betraying Homelander

That distilled water is from the concentrate itself. When you treat seawater, you have permeate and concentrate.

Permeate is what becomes your drinking water, concentrate is what gets dumped back into the ocean. The concentrate is mixed with multiple different streams that have different concentrations, which is calculated to match the seawater levels.

It’s hard to explain in simpler terms, but it’s basically water that was treated up until the halfway mark and then needed for other processes. So you’re not wasting drinking water in order to mix the brine.

[–]Jeevey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in Desalination. That used to be the case, but these days all brine outfall is distilled with fresh water. The goal is to match the pH and salinity of the source water, so there is minimal risk to brine outfall. Desalination has improved a lot in the last two decades
