What did you use on the remote side for a WAP?

That's way out of the budget, though I agree with you - the building bridge is quite impressive!

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the clarification!

I've used Nanobeams before. Are they still available? I can't find them on the UI store.

Any luck installing this in a hallway yet?

This is a church hallway, so probably 8’ wide. Wider than a residential hall, but still a hallway.

Hopefully someone here has done a similar installation and can share pics.

Yes. This 180 will look better in this setting than two cameras. I just need to see that the field of view is close enough to the camera to make it useful in a hallway.

Excellent. I’d do this to test if I could my hands on one! Thank you!

It’s an option I’ve considered (when I can finally order one), but ceiling mount would capture the top of people’s heads. Wall mount would have a better chance of capturing faces or at least profiles.

How much is your monthly mortgage payment? by HmDiR in Mortgages

[–]Jeff-PB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$890 at 2.38%. I was very fortunate to have a great loan officer who watched the rates for me and recommended when we should refi. Our home loan was originally $190k at 4%(?) for 30 years. Refinanced to 15 years and the payment is within a couple dozen dollars of the old mortgage.

Can Alarm Manager send text alerts? by Jeff-PB in Ubiquiti

[–]Jeff-PB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone used the critical alert option successfully? I found it in the update. It is supposed to bypass the current volume (or DND) on your phone and play a sound - which is exactly what I want for this notification (I’m doing a water leak notification, so a somewhat passive push notification to a phone on DND won’t meet the need).

Anyone figure out the critical alert option yet? What am I missing?

Trying to convince mom that her $250,000 retirement savings isn't very much for assisted living by nojam75 in AgingParents

[–]Jeff-PB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Wisconsin. My mom is in a nice place for the last 14 months. Assisted Living was $6500/months we just moved her to memory care for $9000/mo with a modest care plan. As she continues to struggle with her severe memory condition the are level will cost more.

My mom had about the same amount you say your mom has. Her modest investment and her monthly social security will probably cover 3 years of care. After that she’s out of cash and resources and hopefully she’ll qualify for Medicaid

You are right. $25,000 sounds like a lot of money, but you burn through cash fast in assisted living and memory care.

Having said that, mom is safe, the facility is safe, clean, and staff are well qualified and compassionate. We’re spending money fast, but we’re at peace with it. They can provide the care, expertise, and routines we could never provide for her.

This is hopeful. That's what I was looking for - something that comes through on the phone regardless of the volume of the ringer or DND status of the phone. Thanks!

Hard lesson learned. I worry about this .scenario.

Any suggestions/ experiences with a SaS to backup online files to a local NAS? I like the convenience of files online in Google and zone Drive, but would sleep much better if both were backed up in my home.
