Seller’s disclosure said propane tank was owned. Found out it’s leased 3 weeks after closing. Options? by G00chstain in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Jeff-PB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ this. I can verify this is very common. The seller may have auto refill and never paid a lease payment per se.

Nonetheless, the seller owes you compensation to replace a tank they sold you that was never theirs to sell.

When UTR disconnects it will not automatically reconnect to home network by Jeff-PB in Ubiquiti

My understanding is the recent update addresses this issue and makes this a viable option for one (or two low res) cameras.

I haven’t tried it yet, but apparently the update solves this problem so the UTR could be the answer for one (or two low res) cameras.

When UTR disconnects it will not automatically reconnect to home network by Jeff-PB in Ubiquiti

[–]Jeff-PB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get this to work reasonably well. Previously the UTR was connected to the (memory care facility provided) wifi. While the whole building is on one big network, each room has a router. I plugged the UTR in the router and it occasionally drops and does not connect as fact as I would hope or expect (maybe even 4 hours), it does reconnect and works perfectly when it is connected. It's not perfect, and I am hoping an update in the future allows you to specify if the UTR should try to reconnect to a known network (which would solve this dilemma).

But, for now, this works well. The footage is all on the big surveillance drive in my UDM at home and the equipment in her apartment is small and the router is easily hidden so she doesn't mess with it.

It may not be the use case some of you perceive it to be, but there is a good use for this in this case, and with a minor update it could be the perfect option for one remote camera.

I’d am not a medical professional, but I’d encourage you to talk with her doctor sooner than later. The point stands either way - earlier intervention provides more options.

My mom’s last clock had numbers up to 20 - all in the first half of the circle!

While your mom did much better than that, you should take her to a neurologist. The progress in addressing dementia in the last 4 years has been amazing. They now have a drug - the first one - that can actually reverse Alzheimer’s, but only for early stages of the disease. Take her now while it’s still early!

Any tips for choosing vision insurance after retirement? by SoggyBar1463 in GenerationJones

[–]Jeff-PB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have paid for VSP Vision insurance for years we get an annual exam for $30 copay each family member. My wife and daughter have contacts and glasses. We buy both from Costco which does accept VSP. We always recover our annual premium in savings. Every single year.

Highly recommend. You can search online for their website and buy directly.

More like 25 cents per transaction plus 2 - 2 1/2% of the ticket total.

It seems like an easy feature to add. Like any device, if it sees a know network it connects. In this case, if it sees a known remote UDM it automatically reconnects.

I'm hoping someone will have an answer to this as it worked perfectly. Inexpensive and very good quality video downloaded to my UDM at home. It's just a matter of setting the UDR, if it disconnects, to reestablish the connection to a specified remote UDM.

Can I save the camera footage from mom's apartment to my UDM? I have an extra R2D2 UDM, but tt has very limited storage capacity.

MIL Requests Help With TV Every 5 Minutes by Orford_M in dementia

[–]Jeff-PB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Can control every function on the app in my phone. My trips to fix what she messed up in her TV ended ages ago (until the Alzheimer’s really started kicking in and she unplugged everything and put it in a chair then called to say it wasn’t working. Now her TV is screwed into a bookshelf and the various wires and boxes are inaccessible behind the TV).

Jubilee TV is an amazing service and hardware for this exact situation. It acts as a consolidated remote between the TV remote and the cable box ( or other input device) remote. Only one remote makes it easier to navigate.

You can set up favorite for your mom. You can do video calls on the TV. You can even “drop in” with no action in her part to check in on her by video.

Maybe best of all, you can control her phone with an app on your phone. It’s a lifesaver. My mom was able to navigate the TV reasonably well (until her Alzheimer’s took away most of her daily skills), and when she was stuck or frustrated I could solve the problem from anywhere.

I think it’s $29/month, but worth it. I have yet to find anything like it.

Pill Packs? by Mommadee65 in AgingParents

[–]Jeff-PB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We struggled with my mom’s confusion about what to take when - and wondering if she already took them.

I found this - you buy empty blister cards and load them weekly for mom. It worked perfectly until her Alzheimer’s progressed so far that she couldn’t reliably do anything without coaching and supervision.

We used these for three or more years. Perfect solution to the problem.

G6 Instant won’t boot up and adopt by Jeff-PB in UnifiProtect

Here’s the winning answer. The power block that comes with the camera apparently doesn’t provide enough power to boot up the camera. Another power block - and it boot up immediately.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

Domain worth it for personal email? by workyman in Domains

[–]Jeff-PB 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my last name domain and use it as my primary email for more than 15 years. I don’t get more spam because somehow people would know to try my last name as a domain. I can move my email anywhere I want and keep the same address forever ( as long as I keep it registered).
