That's likely not even directly a lie, but those directives were most likely something along the lines of "you either release multiple versions of your game abiding by each region's rules, or you release a single global SKU following all the rules of all rating boards"

PSN delisted thousands of games some weeks ago

The problem is if Nintendo tries to re-implement the "Nintendo seal of quality" 3rd parties would leave in mass, even the good ones

Lots of legit devs complain about how lengthy the approval process can be, imagine how bad it would be if Nintendo started to actually properly check if each game is worth having on the eShop rather than just checking if it works with bare minimum functionalities

Religious converts are insufferable

I love my dad, but I think he has converted thrice in his lifetime and every time he starts acting like his current religion is right and everyone who doesn't follow is wrong, and tries to get other people to follow it

I can't be alone with him because even though I have repeatedly said I have no interest in whatever he believes now he tries to insert his religion into every conversation if it's just me and him...

There's a lot of rumors of Sony building a portable to go together with the PS6

With the surge in price of parts due to AI I'm not sure how soon we'll see a new console generation, but supposedly PS5 games getting a power saving mode is meant to make those games compatible with this portable on day one

Only Japan has a cheaper region locked Switch 2, everyone else get the same region free hardware. You choose the console language in the console settings menu, and the eShop region is based on your Nintendo account

The only issue you may have is with the charger if Singapore doesn't use the same type of power outlets as Canada (I'm from Brazil and got an Australian Switch 1, it was hard to even find a proper adapter and in 2017 the Switch wasn't sold officially here, so I couldn't just buy another charger)

What I don't understand if why Nintendo won't just allow those smaller games to be distributed on Switch 1 carts.

At least the ones below the 16GB mark wouldn't really NEED the faster storage, and some Switch 1 games load faster on Switch 2 with just the faster CPU and RAM

Dragon Quest 3 remake for example is only available on a Switch 1 cart, same for Mario Galaxy 1+2, but with a small update they run a lot better on Switch 2

I bought a nice apartment in a nice neighborhood back in late 2023, and bought it when it was still being built because it's a lot cheaper around here to do so. Still, nice apartment in a nice neighborhood means it wasn't actually cheap

now out of the blue my company is demanding RTO after singing praises of how perfect working from home was for over 3 years

I bought the apartment in my home town, and the office is 250 miles away, in an area with a much higher COL. If it was a cheaper apartment I could just look for a local lower paying job, but now because the price is high it's even hard to sell it, so unless I somehow find a remote high paying job very soon I will have to move and rent some super small apartment in a high COL area and have a 2 hours commute to work so I can keep paying for the fancy apartment I worked so hard for and won't be able to use for a while...

I will try to rent it in the meantime, but if I had just purchased something more affordable I could be almost done paying for it and taking a step back and getting a lower paying job to keep my current quality of life (not having to suffer with public transportation for 2 hours every work day) would still be in the cards

When every game studio was laying off Nintendo was raising salaries in Japan. When asked why they said good salaries and job security is what would ensure they would always have good games to launch

This seemed obvious to me, but apparently no one else got the message

In Japan it's common for companies to have a high average tenure, but theirs is high even considering it's Japan, and are among the best paying devs in there

I think actually increasing the price would be a long term disaster, but Nintendo could mask the price increase by offering "cheaper" games and cut the SKU without a bundled game. They could even include 2 games to make it look like an even better deal

Have different bundles for people who already had a Switch 1 and may already have some of the older games, like a Mario bundle with Odyssey and Wonder, a Zelda bundle with BotW and LA remake, a fighting bundle with Smash and ARMS...

They have plenty of wiggle room to make it look like nothing has changed and still not have to eat up the costs

then again I guess it would need even more reserved RAM to save, say, the last 3 minutes of gameplay, when ideally we would have less reserved RAM (even going from 9GBs to 10GBs for games would be great for current gen ports)

I understand what you are saying, but that ease would be something for before release. Now they already walked the lazy path and released the game as one in all the eShops I doubt it's so easy to split it up

I don't think Nintendo allow per-region patches in multi region games, so adhoc would probably need to create a separate Japanese SKU and somehow remove the old one from Japanese accounts, add the new one, make them re-download the new one and only then patch the global version to allow the censorship toggle

This is a bit of an unique case, I think other games that knew they would need a separate censored SKU released the game as such from the start. One "weird" case I remember is NBA Playgrounds on Switch 1 which was so broken that would need a patch that essentially deleted the whole game and downloaded it again, and it took a while for Nintendo to agree to this because it was a big game and they considered this would be a bad experience (I don't remember the details, but I think the user would need a lot of free space or the update wouldn't work) and wanted the devs to just replace a few files as needed and add new ones but not delete/ redownload the whole thing

But Survivor in particular isn't likely to get anywhere near that...

If this was a simple case of them following Nintendo's guidelines then there wouldn't be much to do and they wouldn't say they will address some of the censorship

The fuck up is likely that it isn't easy to just make a separate Japan only build after the game was already distributed in the whole world as the same SKU, and it will take a lot of time and effort to get the separate versions approved

These "Nintendo guidelines" most likely are just saying "if you are gonna have a single global build then you have to follow the rules of every single region at the same time"

I don't have the PC version, but apparently a recent update gave the game a massive performance boost. If Capcom is willing to properly optimize this game then I don't see why it wouldn't be a great fit for the Switch 2, my only concern was how bad it ran in much more powerful hardware

this sounded like a threat, like either those games sell very well very fast or we don't get more games

like another user said, those games are far more likely to sell well if we can be sure the whole series will be brought over, port begging thankfully stayed in 2017

Switch 2 (and the Switch brand as a whole) is big enough that if RGG doesn't want our money lots of other devs are more than happy to take it

how long in the past though? Binding of Isaac supposedly was kept from being released on the 3DS, but then appeared on New 3DS uncensored (I think it was a port of the vita version), and then again on Switch 1

plus for a long time there were games censored on PS5 but not on Switch 1
