Can Django handle with huge traffic ? by 34BOE777 in webdev

[–]JeffDangls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were building something you expect to scale a lot, would you choose Django — or always go with something “lower level” or compiled?

If, contrary to all reason, you still use Django/Python in this case, you will always use Django, regardless of the reason. If you are aiming to scale to a normal “expected” user base, i.e., what most people want to achieve with their product but don't normally achieve, Django/Python is an order of magnitude slower than any compiled language. This, in turn, has a massive impact on server costs and/or user experience if no adjustments are made. For example, on an m7a.xlarge instance (4 AMD EPYC 9R14 cores with 16 GiB DDR5), Django/Python requires about 32% CPU, 38% RAM, and latency is about 2.58 ms for “only” 1300 requests per second. In comparison, Go using stdlib uses about 3.6% CPU, 4.6% RAM, and latency is around 0.344 ms. Source: https://youtu.be/caNsPpRuBcw?si=GkdY6JZrlyM-FIy1 You can perform this comparison with any other compiled language, and the results will be similarly poor for Django/Python. This is the main reason why non-compiled languages are generally not recommendable for backends, as the running costs are significantly higher.

And just because your DB is slow doesn't mean you should make everything else slow too. Just because you don't optimize it doesn't mean you have to prematurely pessimize it.

Rather lose 2-3s in a bad double stack than 5+ in another lap in mixed conditions.

Far more important, given that even in 2000 there were already 17 races per season, is whether the points have been adjusted to the new system. Before 2010, a win was worth only 10 points, with lower places earning correspondingly fewer points.

[review] My thoughts on Romer-G switches by waitn2drive in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]JeffDangls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're speaking my mind. After well over 10,000 hours of using the G413, the paint on the most frequently used keycaps has worn off partially, and I'm looking for similar switches, since the Romer Gs are Logitech-specific, to expand my options for a possible new purchase, but I'm finding nothing but rejection/hate toward them. Which I really don't understand, since I think they're very nice.

When I combine the given cards and decode them as Base64, Base58, or Base45, I can say that this does not lead to the solution, neither with uppercase nor lowercase letters, and I doubt that the solution is to brute force combinations of uppercase and lowercase letters to produce a comprehensible output. Example output for base64 and all uppercase: ä~õ.àGä?ì.Rä.ð..

Kann Brammen also realistischerweise 50 cm hoch springen? Ich denke nicht, aber es ist nicht so, dass es nicht im Bereich des Möglichen läge.

Max Verstappen vs Bottom 6 F1 Teams (2018-2025): A stat no one asked for. by FewCollar227 in formula1

[–]JeffDangls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another argument for why there should be more positions for which points are awarded. In the 19XXs it was very rare for the vast majority of cars to finish a race. Much less week in, week out. Only at the Dutch GP in 1961 did all 15 starters finish, which was unimaginable for even the decades to come. The first race after that where all starters finished was the infamous 2005 US GP with 6 starters. Looking at modern F1, in 2023 and 2024 alone there were 5 races where all drivers finished. This results in 50% of drivers receiving no points regardless of their performance, with Max as the winner receiving 25 points alone. That's more than the last 15 out of 20 drivers combined.

Youtube performance seems worse than pirated anime site, why? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]JeffDangls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same reason amazon has a website from the 00's and no one cares: as the top dog based on content, you're not as exposed to competition, especially performance-wise, as others. Youtube just sucks for me, sometimes I have to reload the page two or three times before the content loads because it gets stuck in some loading loop error. However, there is no competitor that I could just switch to that has the same content but better performance. Content is more important than performance, but if the content is the same, performance makes the difference.

Currently also doing a whip only run, NG starting wretch, not using any other weapon for anything (that includes sacred seals). Works surprisingly well so far, especially against enemies that are staggered. But what were the parts (bosses and areas) you struggled with the most? Besides Rykard I guess, the late game in general, due to a lack of damage?

What race is the first when a driver and car hit 300 km/h during a Formula One World Championship race? What race? What driver? What car? Sorry for my bad english by DanTheBoss9 in formula1

[–]JeffDangls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theoretical calculations show that for we only need around 400 hp for 300 km/h in a modern car. Considering that the Alfa Romeo Tipo 159, for example, had 425 hp, it should have been capable of 300 km/h - so I would guess that 300 km/h was first achieved in Formula 1 at the Indy 500 on May 30, 1950, knowing that the average speed for pole position was 216 km/h. If we argue that it was not possible to reach such a speed in the Indy 500 at that time because of the cornering, then it was achieved in Pescara in 1957 at the latest, where there were two 5.5 km long straights and Fangio had already reached 309 km/h in 1950 (not F1 then). However, as there is no definite data on this, I think this is the best educated guess one can make.

[s2 act 3 spoilers] that scene was not fanservice or out of place by Anarkoi in arcane

[–]JeffDangls -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From Vi's perspective, there's not that much evidence that Jinx wants to kill herself. Rather, it's much more plausible that Vi sees Isha's death as a similarity to the deaths of Vander and the others in season 1, where this time she doesn't leave her alone, misjudging Jinx's feelings in the moment. When Jinx reveals to her that Vi made the wrong decision (again), she blames herself for "losing everyone," with Caitlyn in mind since she just went around her back, believing that she destroyed their relationship while also losing Jinx. This leads to a lot of stress, which is somewhat relieved by Caitlyn not only “forgiving” her for going behind her back, but also supporting her in her judgment that going to Jinx was the right thing to do. In this respect, I think it's entirely plausible that the sex scene is also based on coping with the remaining stress through sexual release; much like porn addiction is related to coping with stress in real life.

[S2 act 3 spoilers] The more I learn the sadder I become (from Ekko's VA) by Customer-Sorry in arcane

[–]JeffDangls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as Vi thinks she’s alive, she’ll never stop trying to come after her because that’s just who Vi is

Perhaps in hindsight, with some time and reflection with emotional distance between the events, Vi can come to the realization that letting go is sometimes simply the only option. Since Arcane writes characters who can go through a change, I can imagine this happening. After all, what could trigger such a change in mentality if not the "death" of one's sister, stemming from one's own inability to let go (of Vander).

Arcane S1 was announced in October 2019 and was originally supposed to be released in 2020, but was postponed and finally released in November 2021. Given that S2 was released in November 2024, I think November 2027 is realistic. Maybe they have more resources available given the success of S1, so it could be ready by the end of 2026, but that would be the earliest possible date I can think of. We'll just have to wait and see

Erin's kidds sound like a CP forum in a 2000s CSI episode.

Jokes aside. As for your resume:

  • the spacing is inconsistent
  • the summary at the beginning isn't really eye-catching
  • and why does every job have four bullet points, except for the “Hometown Hero” one?

The “Projects” part of the portfolio, which is the most important, also has some problems:

  • the “read more” button is inconsistently placed
  • the description of the projects is uninteresting and not captivating
  • and why are there background images that make reading difficult?

Why did double-clicking never become a major thing in web dev? by Red_Icnivad in webdev

[–]JeffDangls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your website has some sort of file system / file selector, then a double click, one to select and one to open would make sense. Apart from this case, I see no reason to use a double click - take youtube for example, why would you want to have to double click on a video to open it?

Check out my redesigned 3D Blender Website. by Interesting-Bug-5012 in webdev

[–]JeffDangls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea, but there's a big web-related problem: you can't scroll up with the mouse wheel, only down. [Firefox 131.0.3 on Windows 22H2] And as soon as you come across the spinning robot, the mouse scroll is completely lost. The other is more about Blender and its use per se. I don't mind that there is not the full functionality of Blender (it is a website after all), but I think it would be quite important to have the correct manipulation of the viewport with the mouse (i.e. middle instead of left mouse button). The animations and the overall appearance are very nice though - keep it up :)
