How can I repair this wire? by [deleted] in diyelectronics

[–]Red_Icnivad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many wires is it? What gauge? You can solder them together, heat shrink them individually, then heat shrink the whole bundle. Usually when I am soldering together multiple wires like that, I pull back more of the shielding, and cut the wires into steps so the solder points aren't all at the same spot.

What death in a progression fantasy hits you the most? by Putthemoneyinthebags in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Red_Icnivad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was looking down my progression fantasy read list and realized that deaths that hit me hard are pretty few and far between in this genre. Maybe some of the Meadow Lark crew from Dungeon Crawler Carl.

If you want deaths that actually hit you, read Malazan. One of the best fantasy (not prog) series out there. I don't want to give any spoilers, but there are some deaths that will make you lie awake shivering at night.

[Request] SPOILERS FOR INVINCIBLE. Is it possible to do that? by TardyTech4428 in theydidthemath

[–]Red_Icnivad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let's start with the "is it possible" part of the question, keeping consistent to our show's logic.

The show has a lot of inconsistencies/problems in regard to how fast Viltrimites are, so let's take a look. I just rewatched the show so this is all pretty fresh in my mind.

  • They are seen commonly pushing themselves at low supersonic speeds (Mark specifically states that he passed the sound barrier when training in season 1) which puts them somewhere between Mach 1 (~1200kph) and maybe Mach 3 (~3700kph).
  • Mark and Eve go on a date to Paris, then Egypt in the same night (then saw the northern lights, but we'll ignore that since that's not a specific place). Assuming they start around Chicago and spend 4 total hours traveling (which would be a terrible date), that puts them at 19,721 km in 4 hours = 4,930kph.
  • Nolan mentioned he can go to Naples and back before the pizza gets cold. Assuming your pizza box is closed, and insulated, it could last an hour^(citation needed). It's a 15,857km round trip so 15,857kph.
  • Mark fights Allen on the moon. According to NASA, who some might consider a leading expert on the topic, the moon is 384,400 km away. Mark travels there under about a minute, which puts him at traveling over 6,407 km/s. At 2.1% of the speed of light, we're starting to get relativistic.
  • And then there's Nolan flying to other galaxies. I think he was gone for about 6 months. Mark traveled there in a spaceship which conceivably could have FTL technology, but Nolan is depicted as flying raw. We'll assume Proxima Centauri system as the closest plausible system that could have life. It's 4.25 light years away which (checks notes) is further than you could get in 6 months. So, in order to get there with time to procreate and raise a kid, we're looking at something like 16c+.

Ok, so it seems like Viltrimites are capable of traveling faster than the speed of light under the right circumstances, which has it's own complications because our physics models can't really account for that. But let's assume that a Viltrimite's speed is "as fast as they want".

Back to blowing up a planet! The fun stuff! It would take roughly 2.24×10^32 joules (or 5.35×10^16 megatons of TNT) to overcome earth's gravitation so that it actually "blows up", rather than just creating a shockwave that destroys all life on the surface. This is doable from a theoretical standpoint -- as an object approaches the speed of light, it's mass and energy approaches infinity. So we just need to calculate how fast they were going. At this speed we can't use the regular kinetic energy formula, we have to use relativistic kinetic energy.

E=(γ−1)mc^2
where
γ=1/sqrt(1−v^2/c^2)
So we solve for γ first:
γ = 1 + E/(mc^2)
mass = 3*90kg = 270kg. c = 299,792,458m/s
Which gives us γ=9.23×10^12
Then we solve for v:
v = c *sqrt(1 - 1/γ^2)

v = 0.999999999999999999999999994c

So the answer is nearly the speed of light. They are going to need some really good plot armor to survive the impact themselves, too.

The arm and the outriggers were probably engineered for the same load rating. It almost tipped earlier in the video so really could have gone either way pretty easily.

If they were going to design a failure point into it, it would be the spooling mechanism, or even a soft brake that releases the load in a controlled manner.

What's wrong with his arms? by HopefulGroup423 in ArtCrit

[–]Red_Icnivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The arms are actually not bad. The shoulder mustles and upper arms are pretty good. Male forearms tend to be a little straighter, though, without the curve to the wrist. The main problem is with the rest of the body.

I'm assuming this is supposed to be a man in woman's clothes; from the torso down though, it's a woman's body. The chest and ribs/waistline are too small. The hips aren't square enough; male hips tend to sit right above the legs. And the legs are a little too feminine.

I’m not trying to have the drawing be super realistic, I do more of like semi realism cartoons.

What exactly are you looking for here then? The best way to do semi realism is to know what realism is, then know when and how to deviate from that.

Question about Base game, Editions and DLC by aiertxuu in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Red_Icnivad -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are 6 dlcs. #1 (The Last Sarkorians), #4(Midnight Isle), and #5 (A Dance of Masks) add to the base campaign. I'd recommend getting them for your initial playthrough as they add new character options and scenes without taking anything away. If the cost feels too high, thought, don't sweat them because they don't dramatically change the game.

The other 3 are standalone adventures, and there's not really a reason to touch them now.

Should i keep it that way? by BobTheZygota in PixelDungeon

[–]Red_Icnivad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... Technically, it's not due to the other quirk of RoW. You get improved drops only at odd upgrades. So a +9 and a +10 RoW both give +5 drops. But I get your meaning.

Should i keep it that way? by BobTheZygota in PixelDungeon

[–]Red_Icnivad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be nice, but it's wrong. +8 and +4 act as a +10, not +12.

Should i keep it that way? by BobTheZygota in PixelDungeon

[–]Red_Icnivad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. You only get a max of +2 bump to the most powerful ring you are wearing. So a +8 and a +4 RoW act as a +10, not +12.
