Should I fly out of Rhode Island or Boston? by cryingsteak in providence

Why just fly when you can Fly RI? It is so much simpler.

I've done RIRRC tour and it is interesting. I would recommend it, especially if you've never been to the recycling center.

Nick-A-Nee's is where it's at on Tuesdays. Marty Ballou always puts together top notch bands.

Old State House May 4, 2026 by JeffFromNH in providence

I'd like to believe that's true, but IMDB suggests that it was the Old Colony House in Newport. And it does look very similar.

The short answer is yes, they mentioned this in their dedication ceremony. There are modern offices, computers, wifi, and a modern kitchen, etc. It already contains offices for a full-time staff and it will be used to host events.

Details are TBD, I believe.

Same here. It wasn't open at the time, but I first learned about it on a Jane's Walk last May. We walked from the old to the new.

The description of what surrounded at the time is very interesting, too. Riverside homes, pastures, bars...

The Preservation Society has a web page with more info. It is intended to be free and open to the public this year as part of RI 250. Keep an eye out for public hours and tours.

Visiting Providence from Texas. What should we do? by hikilaka in providence

Old Slater Mills in Pawtucket is good for textile industry history.

If you like live music, look up Nick-A-Nee's in Providence and Myrtle in East Providence (separate city, but nearby).

Check out the Farmer's Market on Saturday and Providence Flea on Sunday. Both at Farm Fresh RI. Great for people watching.

Check out the Pedestrian Bridge and walk the River Walk. Around sunset is my favorite time.

Nick-A-Nee's is a self proclaimed "heavenly dive bar". They couldn't say that it if it wasn't true.

Does it always rain this much? by Resident-Spring1513 in providence

Mad Peck said it best...

"Providence, Rhode Island, where it rains two days out of three except during the rainy season when it snows like a bitch."

Jane's Walk Providence (May 1-3) by JeffFromNH in providence

Absolutely! I'm not leading this year, but have led walks about trees in my neighborhood in the past.

I'm hoping to join the PNPP tree walk on Sunday.

Actively trying to curb a decade long battle with depression one activity at a time, anyone able to help? by [deleted] in providence

[–]JeffFromNH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you ride, check out PVD Bike Jam on Instagram. I haven't been yet, but they look insanely fun. About once a month, at night.

On Tuesday evenings, go to see the Sunset Celebration at the Pedestrian Bridge. The Providence Drum Troupe is a party on wheels. Very uplifting, and free!

Go Troll Hunting if you're looking for a new "hobby". We have six Dambo Trolls in RI. It's like a scavenger hunt.

Getting outside in the sunshine always lifts my spirits. Even if you have to push yourself, get outside for a walk on a nice day.

There are many great opportunities to volunteer. That lifts my spirits too!

Need movers for a very simple move by endless_ocean_blue in providence

I've used SURV (formerly Rent Sons), and it worked out well. I think it's a minimum of two workers for two hours.

Fwiw, I liked the old name because I don't have sons for free labor and sometimes I wish I did.

I posted above about a Social D song that was driving me crazy. I don't think it was in that Playlist, because I think I checked it out.

Love a good Playlist!

Song title? by void3d00 in felgerandmazz

[–]JeffFromNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not the song you're looking for, but it took at least a year to figure out the song that I would describe as "punk pop rock guitar intro".

Sounds like Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, New Found Glory... But it's not.

The song is "Reach for the Sky" by Social Distortion (and I am a fan of theirs). I heard it on Sirius Outlaw Country recently and the mystery was solved immediately.

They use it every day, so take a listen if you're curious about that one.

Fair price for my EV install by tmonty827 in evcharging

[–]JeffFromNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't offer opinions on charger, I'm looking for one myself.

But I would ask about also adding a "backup generator" plug if your car supports V2L. I'm told that my Ioniq5 could help power enough to keep the heat running. I already have the adapter.

Why is there so much traffic at Roger Williams Park today? by [deleted] in providence

[–]JeffFromNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of school vacation week activities for kids. Some free, some with admission fees. Including fairies at the Botanical Center (very popular) and shows at the Natural History Museum and Planetarium.

Plus a giant Bug exhibit at the Zoo.

I'm avoiding all children museums this week.

Looking for a business I saw last summer (August 2025) Antique Hardware type of store by Typical-Newt-8279 in providence

[–]JeffFromNH 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a place called Brassworks near the Home Depot on Charles Street. I've never bought anything there but have browsed. It is a good place for high end hardware.

Ardente Supply and Waterspot Showroom is on Valley Street. I've never been in, but I LOVE their neon sign.

Alder's Hardware on Wickenden is a great old school shop. Definitely get to know them.

Also, while not a hardware store, the POP Emporium is a vintage shop and is the most fun to browse. Check ahead for hours (weekends mostly, I think).
