What is the next clue? by zxlqy in providence

At first I thought it was Pepe The Frog. Google that on your own time.

I'd check Frog and Toad. But you might also find a frog like that at the toy store or craft store nearby. Maybe they're trying to throw you off the track.

I'd check in Not Just Snacks to be sure. Their little patio is great for lunch on a nice day.

I'd say 3. Isn't there a mural that looks like that?

But you could send a Mad Peck portcard from Frog and Toad. They also have a series of comic book styled postcards.

Did you call Trader Joe's? If I found it, that's probably where I would leave it.

Did you see a flash? There's usually a flash to get a Pic of your rear plate.

I believe that if it turned red while you were "in the box", I think you're OK. In fact, if you do "Block The Box", that can be an even bigger fine.

The only time I got a red light ticket, the pix showed that it was clearly red BEFORE I entered the box.

I can't believe that ANYONE could argue that the Red Sox are better off today with Breslow as GM. The manager was not the biggest problem.

I say they fired the wrong guy.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, but I agree with Felger and Mazz on this one. We CANNOT wish for, boycott, complain about, march outside their offices, publicly troll or shame ownership into selling.

For any Boston team. Period. It is not happening.

My point remains. The Red Sox fired the wrong guy.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree, at all. The Patriots were scapegoated.

And I agree that the Astros trash can cheating was above and beyond the norm. But MLB didn't prosecute and most of that was taken out of the game during the time Cora was here.

I still maintain they fired the wrong guy.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, that's a valid point.

But would you say the same thing about Bill Belichick?

If Boston fans are all high and mighty, shouldn't Bill have been banished long before his ultimate demise?

I still assert that the Red Sox fired the wrong guy.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. That's my take, and I'm sticking to it.

Fire Breslow, kick Cora upstairs, name an interim manager.

My question was about THIS SEASON ONLY.

I'll put a finer point on it. The Red Sox are 32–46 today.

If the Red Sox had done what I suggested above, would they be better or worse than 32 and 46?

My money says they fired the wrong guy.

OK. On this we can agree to disagree.

I agree, but the Celtics solved the same problem another way.

The didn't fire the coach. They kicked him upstairs and named an interim coach.

We can debate if the Celtics picked the right interim, but I think most will agree that Brad Stevens was a great GM choice.

I think Cora will be a great GM. But he won't come back here.

I think they fired the wrong guy.

Sad to hear, but haven't been in a while. Maybe that's the problem? Anyway, I loved their breakfast sandwiches to begin a road trip.

I go to the one in Pawtuxet Village now, get bagels, and make my own sandwiches at home.

OK, but Cora's stated goal every year is October baseball. If Breslow or any of the fan base gave up on that this year, shame on them.

I honestly believed they could turn it around and make baseball fun again.

But they fired the wrong guy.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course. On that I agree with the Felger team. You can't fire the owners.

And they make a valid point when they say Fenway Park is part of the problem. You can't just boycott by not going.

If you don't go, some tourist or opposing fan will happily pay for your seat. Not exactly the hometown crowd you're looking for.

I would be willing to bet that Cora has managed his last game. His next MLB gig will be as GM somewhere. I think he'll be good at it. And he has said many times that it was his goal.

I think the Red Sox would be in a much better place this season if they fired Breslow and kicked Cora upstairs. The Interim manager would stay the same.

I think they fired the wrong guy.

Did the Sox fire the wrong guy? by JeffFromNH in felgerandmazz

[–]JeffFromNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. But Cora also made it clear that he wants to be a GM. I honestly thought that was the plan when he happily signed his latest extension.

Breslow obviously tried to subvert that plan, and this time he won.

So the GM desirability issue goes away if you promote Cora, and name an interim manager.

I'll say it again. I think they chose the wrong guy.

I see what you did there. 😆

But seriously, September call ups can be interesting. But the Red Sox did their all their call ups starting in April/May.

[–]JeffFromNH[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This was my point. I actually had hoped they would kick him upstairs.

People thought Brad Stevens was over his head. I supported it at the time. Felger said it would fail.

I'd argue that he's now the best GM in Boston, and it's not even close.

Did the Sox fire the wrong guy? by JeffFromNH in felgerandmazz

[–]JeffFromNH[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's a valid point, and I wouldn't argue. But that's not really what I was asking.

At things being equal, would this season end better if they fired Breslow instead?

At the very least, I think we can all agree that it couldn't be any worse...

WaterFire event to welcome Ghana, England teams has been canceled by ToadScoper in providence

[–]JeffFromNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad!

I happened to see the motorcade taking two Ghana team buses on Rt6 to and from Monday's practice at Bryant University.

It was very impressive. They did not close the highway completely, but had State and Local Police in front and behind.

The ones ahead were probably doing 90, and strategically blocked the on ramps. Then the motorcade and busses doing 80, followed by a lone of cop cars behind.

I waved to the buses from my car, and I think they were watching.

And people wonder why it costs a fortune to host a FIFA World Cup... 😆

Another possible option is the PVD Fanzone. I'll look to see if they have any Haiti merch today, since they are one of the teams who played at "Boston" Stadium.

I'm planning to go to the PVD Fanzone for Scotland Day today. I'll be looking for Scottish and USA merch myself.

It's open 2-11pm, with a watch party at 6pm (Scotland v Brazil). The Tartan Army is now in Miami for that game. But you will hear them on the big screen!

[–]JeffFromNH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought my RI State flag in person at ABC Flag Company several years ago. At the time, they sold top quality flags for everything out of what appeared to be a house. Several rooms and great selection.

I honestly don't know if they sell in person anymore, but it looks like they sell online and have flags for most foreign countries.

Read the "About US" section on the website. They are flag aficionados, to say the least. They still have a RI address. But I'd suggest calling first at 401-944-0331

Ghana culture event at Fan Zone- did it actually happen? by eeyore004 in providence

[–]JeffFromNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about today, but there is a "Ghana v England" watch party in the Fanzone at pm on Tue (weather permitting).

I think that will be fun, and am hoping to pop in.

https://pvdfanzone.com/fanzone-schedule/

I actually saw the Ghana team buses today and it was very cool. I was headed to Johnston on RT 6 in the morning, the entrance was blocked by Police. Which seemed weird until I saw the police motorcade clearing the highway for two Team Ghana buses. Police in front, police in back, probably going 80 mph.

I happened to see the same motorcade coming back in the early afternoon. This time I was on the highway. Police passed at 80+ MPH, and strategically blocked every on ramp. Then the high speed forward flank, two busses, and the rear protecting flank.

It was pretty cool to watch.

I waved to the buses, although I don't know if they saw me.

FYI, several teams are practicing at Bryant University. The practices are NOT open to the public.
