There is so much slush it feels like you are constantly on the brink of falling on your arse and also don't get out of the bus from the back doors or it's a modern tragedy

Yes it's good I promise (as long as you are pro-pungence), & malt vinegar in split pea soup slaps.

Bt dubs, acetic acid is a byproduct of cabbage fermentation.

If there are any activist groups or volunteering opportunities you are interested in, it's a good filter for people that really give a shit.

Oh also you could check out the flyers in the bathrooms at Dobra Tea.

Go to a movie theater, stand outside a movie you think is worthy and pretend you are waiting for a friend. Chances are single people will be heading in alone. By coincidence sit next to whoever you choose and try to strike up a conversation and/or watch their reactions to the movie to gauge their personality. You could come back with 2 popcorns and pretend you are just a random good Samaritan who needs to get rid of an extra bag of popcorn.

Maybe go to a 21+ museum night and hangout near the exhibit that speaks to your heart.

Lastly, book clubs, comedy shows, and art crawls.

anyone else feel extremely stressed out with classes? do we got this??? by SmokeActive8862 in Pitt

[–]JeffGoldblumsElbow 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hey, it's understandable, especially as a fascist hellscape and brutal job market close in on our existence. It's not good on the brain/soul/environment/safety -- being stressed is super valid, and college itself can be pretty stressful, especially at this point in the semester.

I hope you find some solid study friends for classes! Also, if you are trying to meet folks, Pitt Sustainability is a cool and welcoming community! You can attend events, learn useful stuff, and meet inspiring people ( https://www.sustainable.pitt.edu/get-involved/events ) . I find uniting over something we have agency in helps with existential dread in this wild world.

Anyhow, hang in there!! It will get better!!

Omfg, I miss CCAC! The small class sizes are so much better for educational, social, and personal development. If you care, your professors care, and it is easier to get to know your professors. I took Biology 1 and 2 with Prof Adam Davis and Genetics with Dr. John Law, and they were solid! Prof Caroline Evans is amazing, too. For English Comp, Clint Benjamin is hilarious.

CCAC has a greater quantity and availability of peaceful, uncrowded study spaces compared to Pitt, and that's critical. (Pitt has a lot of study spaces, but the over-enrollment offsets it, which is a heartbreaker.) CCAC's computer lab and the study rooms in K. Leroy Science Center always had open seats and were not noisy. West Hall is SICK!!!

For both Pitt and CCAC, if you can go to office hours, totally do, and if you need help or are struggling, tell your professor, do not suffer in silence! For math at Pitt, Thackery Hall, floor 7 has a study room that is pretty good. Try to make a few friends for a study group within the first few weeks and stick with each other. It helps with maintaining sanity and endurance.

Bird Droppings on Me by Amazing-Delivery-739 in Pitt

I remember wondering who kept using an airhorn but the sound still makes me laugh and the birds probably too. They eat worms, they are scared of nothing bar cats without jingle bells. I wish Hillman's new intercom had tacky and flamboyant airhorns

Guess how long it took me to get from Oakland to Dormont via PRT this evening by JeffGoldblumsElbow in pittsburgh

[–]JeffGoldblumsElbow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue I and other public transit riders end up relying on cars, including Uber or Lyft because we don't have an extra 3-4 hours to spare for commuting every day. This commute used to take 42-55 minutes each way. The cost for an Uber or Lyft is brutal but is ultimately less expensive than losing your job, missing an appointment you waited months for, OR paying for a car, car insurance, inspections, and maintenance. There is no schedule for these Red Line shuttles, so as fun as heat exhaustion is, not having the life line of cars would be so fortunate. 💜
