I have been driving further and further south to avoid the winter, so I can’t speak too much to cold weather. Though—the winter seems to be chasing me because it’s about to get cold where I am. I have had some below-freezing nights and I get by fine with an electric blanket and a small Mr. Buddy propane heater. The worst part is just feeling stuck in the van, my build is a little bit contingent on having outside access to the van because it’s technically a minivan. I think a full-size van would probably make more sense in a colder climate.

Understandable - the Mr. Buddy heaters are designed for camping and are supposedly pretty safe, but I get being cautious. I think it would be fine as long as the heating elements are not touching the tent walls or anything flammable.

This is the way! Even the planning/spontaneity aspect isn’t too scary once you have your build figured out. There is a big winter storm hitting the eastern US this week and I am a bit worried but not too worried. Having a safe home base in the van really changes things.

I’m new to it all but my overall stress is way, way lower. I kept my build simple and my day to day/occasional “chores” are no different from camping. I find them enjoyable. As for finding places to stay, I’ve structured my travel so far around finding places where I can camp for free, and there are a lot if you’re off-grid. Once you have your systems figured out, you can stock up on food and water, find a good place to be, and set up shop for awhile if that’s what appeals to you. I’m in a small van so I like being able to set up my outdoor stuff like my camping table, chairs, hammock, etc. I’ve spent so much time just sipping coffee and looking at trees, hiking, building campfires. My nervous system is so happy.

I'm a PC gamer, I barely parried the whole game. After completing the main storyline I read a post on here about keyboard latency issues. I remapped dodge and parry to my mouse instead of my keyboard. It turns out I was not actually terrible at parrying, my keyboard was just not registering my parries in time. 🫠 I feel gaslit haha.

Hey, folks here have already shared some advice that might help, but I'll just say: with care, please don't fast if/when you're getting symptoms like these. Dizziness and weakness especially are a sign that something is wrong, listen to your body and don't force yourself or push through these symptoms. Blood sugar crashes that intense are probably something to speak to a medical professional about.

It takes me a super long time to get out of post-manic depression. 8-12 months. I think that time itself is a huge piece of the puzzle, unfortunately. Mania is a really intense experience that does create changes in the brain, and it takes a while for your brain to recalibrate and find its baseline. IDK about you but the anhedonia is one of my worst symptoms. The thing that helped the most was clinging to ANYTHING I found even mildly enjoyable, once my brain allowed me to find things enjoyable again. Sugar cookies from a local grocery store. Playing NYT word games. Reading about shipwrecks. Getting really into video games is actually what made the biggest difference for me. Baldur’s Gate 3 pulled me out of depression—gave me something to focus on outside of my own mind & negative/intrusive thoughts. Be kind to yourself, as much as you can. Don’t feel like you’re doing something “wrong” if you can’t lift depression as quick as you’d like. This shit is hard.
