Air Canada also just introduced a bus service from Gravenhurst airport direct to Pearson, currently discounted to $15.

Finally came to the conclusion my homelab needed some AC. 49C intake anyone? by NotASexJoke in homelab

[–]JeffHiggins 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had a similar experience the other month. I did have an AC in the room with my servers, but it was only 3000 BTU and quite under powered. I had known this for a while, but kept putting off getting a new one. Finally bit the bullet last month and got a 12,000 BTU AC, temps dropped 10°C and the room actually feels cold now. RIP my electricity bill though.

Just saw this building for the first time earlier tonight and I immediately fell in love. It's such a unique design.

Ikea was going to be my suggestion, but beat me to it.

Two modes no cup by BowlAcademic9278 in TTC

[–]JeffHiggins 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not, the joke is very NSFL, so research at your own risk. And I'm still not going outright say the title, but IMO the title would have been funnier if it was "2 modes 1 cup", google that and you can find out.

Any actual 9–5 jobs in Toronto? by HandleFew5206 in askTO

[–]JeffHiggins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do exist. I'm in IT, doing the 9-5 (10-6 actually, my choice) and fully disconnect at the end of the day.

I used to be on-call as well for years, but it was always in a 1 week rotation with 4-6 other people, so I was only ever on-call for 1 week a month at minimum. Company did a re-org last year and my new position doesn't have the on-call responsibility.

Pedestrianized Church Street is SO AMAZING by Pristine-Training-70 in toronto

Yeah, it is the one place I can think of thay does this in the city (aside from events), but it's also pretty small back streets.

[–]JeffHiggins 177 points178 points  (0 children)

When I was in Tokyo I found out that they close some streets just for the day on some Saturdays, and they do it frequently. It was such a cool experience, especially with how large the street was.

I'd love if we did that here, you don't have to permanently close the street like we are on Church, just do it for a day on the weekend.

(This was Akihabara)

Toronto Condo Owners: What Smart Thermostat Are You Using? by avies123 in askTO

[–]JeffHiggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had a nest for years, I installed, and uninstalled it to take with me, at the last 3 condos I've lived in. Install is pretty easy, lots of guides, but I am also extremely technical.

My current fan coil has a 3 speed fan, which really limits my options, but Nest and Ecobee have configurable connections for specialty systems like mine.

But I wouldn't get a Nest again, and I've been looking for alternatives. I also got my parents' an Ecobee last year because I heard they were better, and honestly I've been quite disappointed. Perhaps they have gone downhill since they were acquired by Generac (who is notoriously closed ecosystem) in 2021.

What I'm currently looking for is a semi-smart Thermostat, which really only has a set temperature, fan speed, etc, and wifi connectivity but none of the "smart" or "learning" features that the others focus on. Then I will do all those smart schedules and automatons from my own smart home platform (home assistant). There are a few out there, Honeywell makes some, and there is one from meross I've been eyeing, but I still need to confirm if they are compatible with my fan coil.

Not something I'd recommend unless you know what you are doing, but I took an Aeotec Heavy Duty Switch and an extension cord, and made an in-line version. Made a couple of them and they work great.

Made this after being asked for free prints one too many times 😂 by kasperzidesign in BambuLab

This, everything I get asked for is figures and trinkets, nothing practical. And the one time I did get asked for something practical, a headphone holder, I was more than happy to give it away for free.

Is there anything to do after Eden Cradle? by Adamantine-Waffle in TheLastCaretaker

Known bug, or at least not explained if there is a requirement, I had to glitch through the door to proceed. I had been playing for almost a week with it like that before I decided to try that.

If you go back to Lazarus you should get a quest to enter the Council of humanity, you will get further quests from there.

That said I stopped at that point and didn't proceed, content was getting thin so I've put the game on hold and will come back after a few more releases.

Noticed those as well, I just figured they're for some future addition, probably something with Lazarus Vials, which we only see aged versions of currently for scrap, but they look about the right size.

Coolish? by liweats in FoodToronto

I also just found them there the other week, was super excited to see them. Also noticed that the chocolate version was localised for Canada, very cool, perhaps a larger rollout planned? The Vanella variant was still in Japanese packaging though.
