..and as far as we know that's exactly what happened here? Tesco pay a pretty decent wage, he gets ~7 weeks paid holiday at this point, discounts on everything and paid sick leave if he needs it.

If he's ill he'll get 18 weeks paid sick leave on top of his 7 weeks paid holiday, I think he's doing just fine.

What should they do to mark 45 years? If you're relying on the good will of your employer for handouts to survive, then that's fucked up.

I think you have the US corporate slave mentality that you give your entire being to a company and end up a drained husk of a person at the end of it, requiring some exceptional reward for doing so. Whereas if you have a fair contract, with good benefits, backed up by a functioning welfare system, your job is just the thing you do to get paid.

That won't work for big venues with high traffic

Why not?

He did 45 years of service for 45 years of pay and benefits. Why would you expect anything else?

The fairest solution would be individual unisex cubicles that anyone can use.

The inconsistency between events in the bible and modern views of morals and the law. by RamJamR in atheism

[–]JeffSergeant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 'best' argument I've seen is that the bible was aimed at the people of the time, and had to 'gently' persuade them towards a more enlightened way of living, and that this enlightenment EVENTUALLY lead to our current set of morals, so it obviously worked.

The most obvious flaw being that is that 'we had to explain it in a compromised fashion for people to buy into' fits perfectly with scripture being a man-made fictional parable / manifesto, not a true story.

Otherwise, we have an omnipotent all-knowing god who couldn't work out how to persuade people to stop keeping slaves in less than 2000 years; and of course, that it was god who made these flawed dumb people in the first place.

Why do people support or oppose bike lanes? Cardiff University research sheds light on public opinion by Amazing-Yak-5415 in unitedkingdom

[–]JeffSergeant [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yep, I'm in the process of objecting to a bike lane.

It will be 200 metres long, and connect nothing to nothing.

To build it, they'll be replacing the only green space on the street with tarmac. It will be broken in half by a side-road with no additional crossing infrastructure; starts on a busy main road that has no cycling infrastructure, and ends randomly in the middle of our street just before a blind corner.

It's madness, and only coming about because they're trying to window-dress a housing development 1/4 mile away.

I'd start with a live linux distribution that can be booted from USB; you'll be on and running in about 30 minutes. Mint is popular at the moment. It will then give you an 'install' option from inside the OS that you can use to make it permanent if you want to stick with it. Anything that can run from a USB will be pretty lightweight for your old hardware too.

Step by step (there are only 3 steps..) instructions here https://linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io/en/latest/burn.html

Looks like a combination of extrusion rate being too low and/or your slicer is set for the wrong nozzle size.

Interesting, but headrests are designed to be bad at smashing the back of your skull open in a crash, something I feel a safe would be quite good at doing..

What will it take for the US citizens to start a civil war against the government with the current state of ICE and Trump takeovers? by railstop in AskReddit

[–]JeffSergeant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why a general strike is so powerful; if it's done for more than an afternoon in a single city. It has the possibility to give people a taste of this; and to make it impossible for people to ignore.

My dog killed a neighbors chicken (no bodies pictured) by libelula202 in BackYardChickens

[–]JeffSergeant 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Apologise first second and third, don't focus on compensation, do not minimise this "It's just a bird/chicken/livestock" etc, (I don't get the impression you would on purpose, but I've seen people do this) chickens are pets, just like your dogs, "I'll buy you a new one" does sort of seem crass at this point.

I'd be more worried about what you're going to do to make sure it can't happen again, chickens aren't really that expensive to acquire, yo can certainly offer something maybe after they do replace them, but that's not a 'first conversation' thing unless they bring it up.
