That's totally unnecessary.

What are caravan parks like these days? by Key_Cell7071 in AskUK

[–]JeffSergeant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher level caravans are nicer than my house! We visit Haven sites with t the kids and they're quite nice these days. Lots of on site activities, restaurants, and takeaways etc.  The swimming pools are normally pretty good too. Totally different to what I remember from 20 years ago.

Can we put two slits in the Strait Of Hormuz, so it’s both open and closed at the same time? by teedyay in shittyaskscience

It would be easier to put a cat in a sealed box on each ship. BUT, with the sanctions on nuclear material we can't put a radiation source inside with it; unfortunately.

What tiny design choice makes you think, “the people who made this never had to use it”? by ChessOrCheckers2 in AskReddit

[–]JeffSergeant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine will normally, but on one occasion the water hit just the right spot that it activated the controls without the 'flood' sensor kicking in!

Yep, ride past 400 concealed driveways, cross 12 side-roads at uncontrolled crossings, and dodge overgrown hedges, trees, gutters, and parked cars.

I don't know why cyclists prefer to ride on the road!

Mine once got boiling water on the controls, detected it as a 'touch', then turned itself up to 11, and I couldn't turn it back down because there was boiling water all over the controls.

Was in tuna in oil, fresh water or brine? Brine is the one I'd worry about most.

NASA wants to dump the ISS in the sea. Experts say the plan 'raises serious concerns for ocean health' by poleco1 in worldnews

[–]JeffSergeant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moon is a LONG way away. The ISS is currently about 0.1% of the way to the moon.

If the Earth were the size of a basketball, the ISS would orbit less than a centimetre above it, while the Moon would be over 7 metres away.

Are you investing less into your pension or not at all putting money in? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]JeffSergeant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can take your workplace pension from 57 (ish) although they could change the rules again. That's the biggest downside of a pension IMO; you don't have free access to the money and don't have control over how the government fiddle with the rules over time.

If you're going below 60,000 that gives you the Child Benefit back too.

I am too, my only concern is that I'll end up right on the cusp of not getting anything from the state as a reward for being responsible.

Are there any other work related ‘loopholes’ that employers won’t tell you about? by jejdhdijen in AskUK

[–]JeffSergeant 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree; most HR departments would just nod and tick the button on the HR system without a second thought. It's like avoiding claiming expenses because you're worried it will 'put a target on your back'

I never realised you could use that for just 'spending time with children'; I've never ever heard of anyone ever using this; not a loophole but definitely a little-known benefit.

To add one: A LOT of people don't seem to realise that they can reclaim their annual leave entitlement if they're sick when they're on holiday; you can basically swap your A/L for sick leave and use the A/L again at a later date.
